• President Obama: appoint environmental champion Rep. Raul Grijalva as our next Secretary of the I...
In President Obama's second term, it's important that he add progressive leadership to his cabinet team, especially in positions that are critical to public health and our environment. This is why we're proud to stand with 238 conservation, climate, wildlife, faith, outdoors, Latino and Native American associations to ask the president to appoint Congressman Raul Grijalva as the 51st Secretary of the Interior.

  • Save the Home of American Legion Post 521
Washington Township NJ wants to evict it's American Legion post from their home at Grenloch Community Center. 12/18 Update. News reports to the contrary, it seems clear based on negotiations that the Legion post is being forced/pushed/etc to accept a new location which is vastly inferior to the current one. The new location is much smaller and in much worse condition. The township initially promised that the poor condition of the new facility would be corrected, then changed their minds, (saying for example they would would only patch up the roof, when in fact the building needs thousands of dollars of additional repairs.) The new location is in such a sad state that it's even possible it could eventually be declared condemned, leaving the Legion homeless. This is how Washington Township treats it's Veterans. It's time to stand up and declare that this is wrong, that vets DO matter, and that we should be holding our vets up (instead of kicking them to the curb whenever it saves us a couple bucks.)

  • Lie and Get Fined
Just as a jury needs the whole truth and nothing but the truth to make a fair judgment about a defendant's innocence or guilt, voters need the whole truth and nothing but the truth to decide whom to vote for. Lies inhibit voters from making good choices. If truth be told, Obama would not have been hated by so many, more would have been accomplished, and our economy would be in better shape now.

  • FIRE Boehner
This petition is about moving the country forward with innovative, motivated and capable leaders. John Boehner is not innovative, creative, motivated or a good leader. He needs to go and the House needs to elect a leader who will move the country forward. The American people are tired of his scowling face, his inability to get anything done, his lack of leadership and being owned by special interest groups. Boehner is an embarrassment to our country.

  • Tell College Textbook Publishers to Make More Textbooks Available as eTextbooks
So few textbooks are available as eTextbooks, and fewer still are available for purchase by students. In the new digital age, with the rising cost of living and college, students deserve a lower cost alternative to heavy and resource exhausting college books that utilize the high tech equipment we all rely on.

  • VA Widow's Pension Benefits Applications Delayed, Denied or Lost
My sister is the widow of a Vietnam veteran. We recently applied for VA Widows Pension Benefits for her. My sister is 100% disabled from Fibromyalgia and COPD. Her daily pain level is excruciating even when she is not having a flare-up. She uses a walker. She is unable to afford the full cost of her Assisted Living situation, not to mention her medical co-pays and prescription costs. She is at high risk of becoming homeless. Many veteran's widows are in the same situation. "According to the most recent VA data, there are nearly 75,000 pension claims pending across the country. Almost half of them have been pending for longer than four months. Too few workers trying to process too many claims in too little time. The pressure to work swiftly despite a complex system of benefits and rules, along with outdated or trouble-prone technology, has made human and computer errors all too common, the workers say. Also workers give out inaccurate or misleading information to applicants making the process even more confusing, complicated and time consuming." (Paraphrased NYT Times September 2012 and other articles.) People like my sister are suffering, dying, and becoming homeless, because the VA Widows Pension Benefits Department is not properly staffed, trained, or given the proper technology to process claims in a timely manner. It's a national scandal and disgrace. Our veterans gave their life energy and their lives to defend our country, thinking that their loved ones would be cared for after they were gone. This situation is unconscionable. Please sign to support my sister Lucy, and all the other widows eligible for VA Widow's Pension Benefits.
