I have taught my grandkids to always be respectful, particularly of their elders. But former Senator and current co-chair of the Fiscal Commission Alan Simpson, who is pushing to gut Social Security, either didn’t get that lesson or wasn’t good at listening to what his grandmother said. After fellow members of the California Alliance for Retired Americans and I participated in a protest of his recommended policies in March, Simpson sent a nasty letter that referred to us as “greedy geezers.” But that’s not all. Simpson went on to call us “a wretched group of seniors” and said, “You must feel some sense of shame for shoveling out this bulls**t,” for expressing our views that his plan to destroy Social Security is wrong for me, my grandchildren and the future of our country. “Greedy geezers” and “wretched” seniors? That is not the kind of remarks that our public officials tasked with one of the most important policy decisions in our country’s history should be making. That’s why I set up this petition to tell Congress members – both Democrats and Republicans – that Simpson’s comments are no better than his ideas for gutting Social Security for current and future generations. Please take a quick second to sign my petition and let your Member of Congress know that you don’t support Simpson’s out-of-line comments, or his ideas that end Social Security as we know it by cutting benefits and raising the retirement age.

Food containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) sold in the U.S. is not required to be labelled as such. This is because the corporations responsible have told our politicians that the GMO food is identical to non-GMO varieties. Shouldn't we, the people, be allowed the opportunity to decide this for ourselves? Currently the only way to avoid GMO food is to completely avoid corn products, soy products, cottonseed oil, canola oil, sugar beet products,farm-raised salmon, and possibly meat, eggs and dairy because the animals may have been fed GMO corn or alfalfa hay. Why should we avoid GMO food products? Because the genetic modification of these plants usually consists of making the crop resistant to herbicides (mostly Roundup, but also 2, 4-d herbicides and others). The result is that these GMO crops uptake the herbicide chemicals and put them directly into our food supply. We have allowed these corporations to poison our planet and now the food supply directly, never mind what other effects there may be (pollination problems, extinction of speies etc.). Shall we continue to allow the few to profit at the expense of us all? I say no. How about you? Demand that GMO foods be labelled Sign the petition. Thank you.

With a Federal policy directive issued by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), recognizing medical marijuana and distinguishing it from other illegal controlled substances. In its brief, the VHA directive bolsters advocates' arguments that marijuana does indeed have medical value. It is time to allow medical cannabis to be legal in all forms in the United States of America.

Candidates and politicians have knowingly deceived the pubic time and again telling deliberate lies to bolster their positions. Any politician or candidate for office or any of their surragates that deliberately lie about an issue to the public in order to gain votes or to keep the public confused and misled about voting for their opponent should be jailed and fined as a person is that commits perjury in a court of law.

Dennis von Elgg was nominated by the student body to be the faculty speaker at our 2012 Graduation ceremony. He accepted our nomination, but then the AIMC Administration decided to ignore the student body's vote. They have not only disregarded our vote to have Dennis speak at our graduation, but he will not even be attending the ceremony at the request of AIMC. We're calling on President Tanaka to reverse his decision and respect our vote as a student body.
