• Make Dead Beat Parents Pay For Their Children
The Family Court System and The Child Support Bureaus allow parents to get too far behind on their payments. Six (6) months is a reasonable amount of time to allow for financial emergencies to be rectified. The current system allows too much time to elapse which allows the offending parent to get thousands and thousands of dollars in arrears on both child support AND medical/dental bills. The current system puts an undue financial burden upon the custodial parent to pay $150.00 to file against the offending parent to bring the case back to court. The Family Court System should be the ones to enforce a their own Court Order. The violating parent is in CONTEMPT OF A COURT ORDER. Give 1 week for the arrears to be satisfied at the amount of 1/4 total monies due to the custodial parent or be immediately incarcerated. The Family Court System should then set up a payment program to keep the offending party remain current , as well as additional payments to satisfy the arrears. Make the offending party work not only for their cost of being incarcerated but satisfy their debt to their children. The American taxpayer now must fill these gaps with other government programs and that places an undue burden on the taxpayers to cover food stamps and medical care for these children. We deserve relief from dead beat parents who make children and don't pay their fair share. My daughter is a dead beat parent. She has three "new children" and scoffs at a past court order to pay for her oldest 3 children. I do this for my oldest three grandchildren and all the other children who do without because of a system that doesn't work! Thank you for any and all support you can give. Together, we can change an unjust system and bring back personal responsibility to parenthood in the United States of America.

  • Public works model results support two-laning NW 8th Ave.
The City of Gainesville Public Works Department is to be commended for coming up with a transportation plan for NW 8th Ave. that enhances the level of service for bicycles, pedestrians and other low-speed vehicles such as wheelchairs and electric scooters. This Thursday Dec. 5 the City Commission will be reviewing the results of a trial study in which the lanes were reduced from four lanes to two on the section closest to NW 34th St. The results of the study were unequivocally positive, with no loss in level of service for cars and improved level of service for bikes. However, if the Commission does not act on this data, Public Works plans to return the lane configuration to four until the project commences. See http://www.gainesvillepublicworks.org/wp-content/uploads/December-5-2013-Commission-Presentation.pdf for the Public Works presentation.

  • Tell Hospitality House to End Their "Transgender Segregation Policy"
My name is Alexandra "Distance Everheart" Wilson & i've been homeless over 11 years & have suffered poverty, violence, harassment, & sexual abuse while living on the streets for many years throughout California. Me & my husband came seeking solace at your shelter & when I was asked by the staff what was between my legs "so they know where to put me", I felt offended & that it was not their business-- especially since no one is seeing anyone else naked at the shelter anyway! I was told that I would be in a separate area if I haven't had surgery, & this was only days after reading that the same people who funded the highly-divisive "Prop(aganda) 8" initiative are now spearheading a movement to remove transgender people from locker rooms & restrooms-- & apparently in shelters-- across California. As an impoverished person for many years giving my all to help make the world better in my own way, I find it terrifying that people are dumping millions & millions of dollars into segregating transgender people rather than helping an already marginalized group afford surgery-- which I believe they would do if their hearts, minds, & finances were in the right place. What I don't understand is why the shelter wants people to have a "mental health evaluation" & is willing to pay for those costs, but are not INSTEAD using that money to allocate for homeless people to afford their medical needs. I think that creates some mental stress right their when homeless people are seeing large amounts of money "flying over the tops of their heads" without ANY consideration as to how these things are directly adversely affecting our "mental health". Too many shelters are being mismanaged, & this "transgender segregation policy" is a perfect example of too much power in the wrong hands-- so PLEASE prove me wrong & remove that policy. Thank you signers & sharers of this petition for looking out for people in less fortunate circumstances & to all the community members who are helping to provide a space for people in need. --- seeking peace in Grass Valley, CA

  • Rep. Davis: Don't Cut Meals for Kids
This holiday season, 2 million people in Illinois, including 886,000 children, will have less to eat because of recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps). Now, some in Congress want to cut another $40 billion from an effective anti-hunger program that helps families put food on the table. We need to act quickly so that Rep. Rodney Davis understands that taking food from kids and other vulnerable populations is just wrong.

  • Don't Cut Our Social Security!
My 80-year old, widowed mother, who worked up until a year ago, depends on her Social Security benefits. Like many seniors, she has paid into this system for the majority of her life in order to have these benefits now. Making a cut to Social Security is unconscionable.

  • Put Third St. on a diet
Third St. Is too narrow to safely support four lanes. The outside lanes are virtually unusable by all but the smallest vehicles. Trucks and SUVs typically take up both lanes, leading to a higher risk of accidents. Local residents and truck drivers avoid Third St., using Southern Parkway instead. If you want to restore Southern Parkway to its former glory, start by fixing Third St.

  • Open all bridges to Holiday travelers
Anyone crossing into Mexico or Canada must cross at an International bridge or tunnel. During the major holidays, traffic coming and going into the United States is severely impacted and on occasion, individuals have been killed due to the unsafe conditions on our roadways. These crossings belong to the people, not the politicians. By signing this petition you will not only help us speed up border crossings but also show that we "can" control our destiny.

  • Saving Baltimore City Child Cares (Dukeland, Dunbar, etc.)
This petition is to stop Baltimore City from closing our Child Care Centers. These centers are providing child care, education, and after school care for working parents. Baltimore City Public schools would like to use the child care center buildings to start Head Start program, which only provides half a day learning for children. We are trying to keep academies, like Dukeland Child Care Academy open. They have provided our children, ages 2 and up, with great education, such as sign language, spanish, and dance. Please help us save the centers. Thank you.
