• Action needed! Send your Comment to the Forest Service to Protect the Boundary Waters
This is the most important action we are asking you to take since we launched this Campaign. In December agencies took steps to protect America’s most visited wilderness by denying two mining leases and starting a process that could grant long-term protection by putting areas around the Boundary Waters off-limits to sulfide-ore copper mining. Today is the first day of an environmental review of the Boundary Waters watershed -- a review meant to identify what makes the Boundary Waters so unique, so clean, and so sensitive to pollution. The review will ultimately help determine whether the Boundary Waters is the wrong place for America’s most toxic industry: sulfide-ore copper mining. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is America's most popular wilderness area. Covering over one million acres, with more than 1,000 pristine lakes and 1,200 miles of rivers and streams, the Boundary Waters offers unmatched fishing, hunting, and other public lands wilderness recreational opportunities for all Americans to enjoy. The Boundary Waters is also an integral part of an $850 million-dollar per year outdoor recreation economy in Northeastern Minnesota. It is our crown jewel and is visited by hundreds of thousands of people annually. The Boundary Waters is priceless, irreplaceable and should not be put at risk of perpetual pollution from the most toxic industry in America. Thank you and please spread the word to your friends, families and networks so as many people as possible take action during this critical window for public input.

  • Stop the forced resignation of the Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard
At 12:01pm, the moment Donald Trump is sworn in as President of the United States, the Commanding General of the D.C. National Guard--Maj. General Errol R. Schwartz, will be relieved of his command. There is no excuse for this action. Presidential appointees are not all required to resign at the moment of transition, especially not ones in the midst of critical duties. This is spiteful, unnecessary, uninformed, and wrong.

  • @HouseDemocrats: Back Lieu-Conyers to End U.S. Aid to Saudi Bombing of Yemen
The Saudi war in Yemen has caused a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions, [1] with over 10,000 killed and 80% of the population in need of humanitarian assistance, including 14 million people who can't afford adequate food for their families. The U.S. has assisted Saudi Arabia's reckless airstrikes that frequently hit unlawful civilian targets. [2] These attacks have placed U.S. personnel at legal risk of aiding and abetting possible war crimes. [3] Following a Saudi airstrike on a funeral procession that killed 155 people, [4] the U.S. decided to withhold the sale of precision-guided munitions but continue refueling Saudi aircraft. [5] This sent a mixed signal and did not protect civilian lives. If we continue to refuel the Saudi aircraft that bomb civilians, our condemnation of those Saudi airstrikes will become cruel hypocrisy. Reps. Ted Lieu [D-CA] and John Conyers [D-MI] are circulating a letter to President Obama urging him to stop the refueling of Saudi warplanes that are bombing civilians in Yemen. Urge your Representative to sign the Lieu-Conyers letter by signing our petition. • The American People Want to See President-Elect Trump's Tax Returns
“The only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters,” Trump said at a press conference this week. “I won.” When pressed further, he said, “I don’t think they care at all. I think you [the press] care.” Of course Donald Trump is wrong, and plenty of polls show that high percentages of both Democrats and Republicans want to see his tax returns. But polls are conducted with selected samples of the population. Let's demonstrate with signatures the sheer number of people who want to see Donald Trump's tax returns.

  • Demand a Competent Health Review of Trump
I believe it is the responsibility of our government to properly vet any individual to whom they entrust the highest decision making office in our nation. Yet, a highly dubious 'note' from a part-time gastroenterologist, complete with anomalies, typos, and mistakes, served as the requisite health clearance for Trump. Why is it that anyone wanting to join the military must be subjected to comprehensive health review, but we ignore this protocol for the individual who commands this military? There have been numerous allegations of mental issues in the PEOTUS (namely a bi-polar disorder) that could deeply compromise his decision making ability. The American people deserve a proper health clearance, from a proper, objective professional before entrusting the decisions of a nation to PEOTUS.

  • Thanks for giving us back half of our shore access, but we want all of it.
Residents of Island County have enjoyed this Greenbank shoreline at the end of Wonn Road for many years. Hundreds of individuals have petitioned the commissioners starting 8 years ago, including 1,240 signatures in Jan 2016. Public response at the hearing a year ago made clear the express will of the general citizenry. Beginning with the building of this wall, residents have watched one property owner block access to the beach for thousands of people who have walked out Wonn Road to the low tidelines for years, based on a vague and bogus deed. Public safety neccessitates access to the water between Freeland and Coupeville. Settling in a compromise with this owner sends a signal to other owners that public lands and interests are up for grabs. Last chance to make your comments known this Tuesday January 17, 10:00 A.M., in the Courthouse Annex Building, Room #B102, at 1 NE 6th Street in Coupeville, Washington. Email your commissioners; they need to hear from you!

  • Fathers Rights and 50/50 Co-Parenting Movement
Although it takes two to create a child, our system has been broken for far too long. Men have been discriminated against, defamed, and falsely accused of abuse to gain sympathy by the mother. We need to change this and implement this necessary parenting plan before more children suffer the loss of deprived relationships with their fathers.

  • Stop the Insanity: Lets have a re-election NOT an inauguration!
I am appalled at the way Trump is conducting himself with the press, with the intelligence agencies, with Putin, and with the American people. This man is out of control, out of touch, and should be out of the White House. In all my years of being a citizen of this country, I have never seen anything as politically damning, racist, and "war-like" as what he is doing now...AND...he is not even the President yet. I feel we have a chance to turn the country around if we can stop his inauguration and start over.

  • Stop Trump's Corporate Coup
In his first news conference since July, President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will turn his business over to his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, who double as some of Trump’s closest political advisors.[1] Walter Shaub, the Director of the Office of Government Ethics, called the move “meaningless.” He added, “We can’t risk the perception that government leaders would use their official positions for professional profit.” [2] A quick look at Trump and his billionaire Cabinet picks confirms that we’re headed in that direction. All signs suggest that Trump is ready to hijack our government to enrich himself, his Cabinet, and other members of the financial elite. I believe that our government should work to improve the lives of everyday people, not serve as a tool for the rich and powerful. If you’re with me, sign this petition and demand that Trump sell his financial holdings, place them in a blind trust, and release his tax returns. --------------- [1] “Trump Announces Plan That Does Little to Resolve His Conflicts of Interest.” The Atlantic, January 11, 2017. http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/01/donald-trump-conflicts-of-interests/508382/ [2] “Federal ethics chief blasts 'meaningless' Trump business plan.” The Hill, January 11, 2017. http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/313864-government-ethics-chief-blasts-trump-business-plan

  • Shame on Democratic Senators who voted with Big Pharma!
Less than 24 hours after the Senate Republicans took the first step to repeal the Affordable Care Act, 13 Democratic Senators voted against lowering drug prices for the working class. They voted down an amendment, proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, that would have allowed the import of drugs from Canada. The Democratic Senators who voted NO: Michael Bennett (CO) 202-224-5852 Cory Booker (NJ) 202-224-3224 Maria Cantwell (WA) 202-224-3441 Tom Carper (DE) 202-224-2441 Bob Casey (PA) 202-224-6324 Chris Coons (DE) 202-224-5042 Joe Donnelly (IN) 202-224-4814 Martin Heinrich (NM) 202-224-5521 Heidi Heitkamp (ND) 202-224-2043 Bob Menendez (NJ) 202-224-4744 Patty Murray (WA) 202-224-2621 Jon Tester (MT) 202-224-2644 Mark Warner (VA) 202-224-2023 According to Jezebel, some of these Democrats are among the top recipients of Big Pharma funding: "Sen. Booker received $267,338; Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) received $254,649; Robert Casey (D-PA) received $250,730; Michael Bennet (D-CO) received $222,000" between 2010 and 2016.
