Candidates running for president are not required to reveal their taxes the way other elected officials must do. Therefore, Congress must change that because it's obvious from the recent presidential election that we cannot depend on the ethics of the person elected to do the right thing.

During a press conference following the November 2018 midterm election, Donald Trump berated CNN reporter Jim Acosta for asking questions that he didn’t want to answer. Later in the evening, the Trump administration revoked Acosta’s press credentials and barred him from entering the White House grounds. The White House Press Correspondents Association exists to advance the interests of and protective the White House Press Corps. They need to act. They need to make it a matter of policy that if one of their members if blacklisted, that the rest of the White House Press Corps will line up in solidarity -- and either refuse to participate in White House press events or only ask questions on behalf of the banned reporter/outlet until the ban is lifted. In response to the ban, many outlets and reporters publicly expressed concern. But, in a couple days their concern will fade and they will go about their business. We know this to be true because it’s happened before. Trump has a history of doing just this thing. During the 2016 campaign, he has literally banned the Des Moines Register from covering his events. He banned Univsion from attending his events. He revoked The Washington Post’s credentials for a period in retaliation for a headline that he didn’t like. He revoked Politico’s credentials for a while to punish them for an article he didn’t like. BuzzFeed--which Trump called "a pathetic pile of garbage" during a press conference--was on a blacklist starting in June 2015 and extending well into early 2017. The Daily Beast had been blacklisted as well and was frequently denied credentials as a result. Despite this long record and Trump’s increasingly brazen attacks against the news media, journalists covering Trump still haven’t learned. Time and time again, as one outlet after another is frozen out, reporters continue to go about their interactions with Trump and his people as if nothing is wrong. Enough is enough. Some principles are more important than competition among news outlets. If a free press has any hope of surviving Trump’s sustained attacks, we need the journalists covering Trump to step up and send a clear message: If Trump blackballs one of you, the rest of you need to stand in solidarity.

Donald Trump says we, the American people, aren't interested in his tax returns. I think most Americans are interested. The potential conflict of interest with other countries alone should be enough to make this disclosure mandatory before taking office. We, the people, have a right to see his tax returns. If he has nothing to hide, prove it to the people of this country and release your tax records.

I am a student at GIHS in Grand Island, NY, and I personally am desperate for a better sleep at night based on my needs as a teen! The decision of what time school should start and end should not be manipulated because of extracurricular activities, but they should be changed based on the needs of the kids! I am an American citizen extremely concerned by the nature of President-elect Trump's stance on not releasing his tax returns. His decision to not put his business holdings into a blind trust while he is in office is also of grave concern. Release your tax returns now! What are you hiding??

I just watched the press conference and heard the President Elect state that the public does not care about his tax records. I do care, as do many others in the country as evident by repeated requests since the campaign. I am concerned both about the failure to release the tax returns, AND the false claim about how the public feels. I want to let Donald Trump and his Administration know that we are listening and watching and when they mis-speak for us, we WILL call them on it.

Secretary of State-designee Rex Tillerson is being attacked by Marco Rubio, who wants more confrontation with Iran, for having opposed some sanctions on Iran in the past. Unfortunately, some Democratic groups, like American Bridge, are opportunistically supporting Rubio's attack. Every Member of Congress, Democrat or Republican, who supported diplomacy with Iran to address the issue of Iran's nuclear program at some point opposed some sanctions on Iran or sought to limit some sanctions on Iran. The Obama Administration opposed some sanctions on Iran and sought to limit some sanctions on Iran. Every NGO that supported diplomacy with Iran opposed some sanctions on Iran and sought to limit some sanctions on Iran. In particular, all these actors sought to limit sanctions on Iran so that they could be lifted if a diplomatic agreement with Iran on its nuclear agreement could be achieved, in order to make an agreement with Iran possible. It was common sense that if the goal of sanctions were to pressure Iran to negotiate an agreement, then Iran should believe that in the event of an agreement, those sanctions would be lifted. Urge Senators to oppose opportunistic attacks on Rex Tillerson related to Iran sanctions by signing our petition.

On Wednesday during President-elect Donald Trump's first press conference since July, he said about the Affordable Care Act: "let it implode in '17." [1] Millions of Americans and their families rely on the ACA, Medicare and Medicaid to keep their families healthy -- and to help them when they get sick. Now President-elect Trump and other Republicans in Congress want to take our health care away, rather than expanding and improving it so that we pay lower premiums, get cheaper prescription drugs, and have a plan that works best for their family. It is outrageous that President-elect Trump and Republicans in Congress want to undo improvements to our healthcare system rather than working to expand and build upon them.
