My son Jack is a spunky, determined, charismatic six-year-old. He plays baseball, basketball and soccer. He swims and reads and dances. Jack has Down syndrome, but that doesn’t define him. It’s one of the things that makes Jack awesome. And Jack is one of the things that makes his school awesome. Jack attends our local public school—and thanks to an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Jack is thriving. But Trump’s nominee for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, would put Jack’s education—and the education of millions of other students with special needs—at risk. During her Senate testimony, Ms. DeVos seemed to have no knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), the federal law that ensures students with learning challenges get the support and assistance they need to thrive. Jack’s IEP is specially tailored to his “individual” academic and functional goals. He knows that the books he reads were chosen for his reading level, that his physical therapist helps him keep up with his friends and that his speech therapist supports his behavioral goals by giving him language to function appropriately in his classroom. Our sons—Jack and his big brother Griffin—are able to attend the same wonderful public school, thanks to the extra help Jack receives through IDEA. Jack’s teachers and classmates don’t see squinty eyes, extra chromosomes and noisy footsteps—they see Jack’s strengths and weaknesses, his favorite activities, his charm. And Jack gets to learn and grow with kids of all capabilities and from all backgrounds, too. When we were working to get Jack’s IEP approved, I remember telling my teacher friends that I felt like I was also advocating for our amazing schools. I knew that having Jack there would make our amazing schools even awesomer, and that has come to fruition. That school rallies around our guy and supports him so much, and having that kind of diversity--whether across abilities, economic classes, races, or interests--is so vital to our public schools and our democracy. But if Betsy DeVos—who has called our public schools a “dead end”—is confirmed, public schools will be in grave danger. It’s not just that she doesn’t know or care about the federal laws that provide extra help for kids like Jack. It’s that she doesn’t believe in public education. DeVos wants to make our schools into a marketplace, pushing private school vouchers and for-profit charter schools. Her ideas will result in the defunding of the neighborhood public schools like Jack’s—and as parents select specialized schools, families like ours will be left with a no-win choice. In our neighborhood public school, our kids are exposed to so many different kinds of learners, ethnicities, backgrounds, races, and differences of every kind. That helps them learn tolerance and acceptance, and build the skills to interact with people from all different backgrounds. if people choose schools based on specialties, Jack will end up at a special school for kids with disabilities or as a "leftover" in his public school. Schools will lack the cultural and sociological diversity that emulates the real world. And students at the other schools will have no idea as to how to interact with the disability community. Betsy DeVos doesn’t care about kids like Jack—she can’t even be bothered to learn about the federal laws that make it possible for Jack to thrive in our neighborhood public school. We respectfully ask Congress to take all necessary steps to invalidate, nullify and void President Trump's Executive Order. The order is fundamentally unconstitutional and causes irreparable harm to U.S. citizens with family members seeking entry into the United States. Furthermore, those individuals with constitutional rights, such as Lawful Permanent Residents ("green card holders") have suffered harm and will continue to suffer if Congressional action is not taken.

If the totalitarian lie were to triumph in America, no one would be safe. But as a refugee, immigrant and naturalized citizen, despite my military service and long years in America, I feel personally under threat. Fighting cancer as I have been for some seven years, for me to join a demonstration and be arrested and charged, as journalists recently were, might well have dire consequences for my otherwise quiet middle-class life with my wife here in Indianapolis.

President Donald Trump was elected into the White House by the American people and, therefore, he should be included in the Hall of Presidents when it reopens June 30th. His actions that he has taken during his first week as President have shown, however, that he does not represent the views that Walt Disney World holds dear. The Walt Disney Company has always been a company that encouraged diversity among its employees and Walt Disney World has been a vacation destination for families all over the world. The Hall of Presidents is designed to remember what made America great and, despite the red hat, President Donald Trump does not represent that for many Americans. The issue is not republican or democrat, both George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been controversial figures that have been included in the past without issue. President Donald Trump is different, however, and his presence brings up bitter feelings for many who visit. He should most certainly be included in the roll call of presidents but do not allow his platform of hate and intolerance to be broadcast in the Magic Kingdom.

We the people of the State of California herby request that you do everything in your collective and individual power not to allow construction of a wall along our border with Mexico. We also request that you come out and speak publicly denouncing any attempt at overreach from President Trump or any branch the Federal Government in construction of this wall. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency, 408,870 persons were caught crossing the California/Mexico Border in 2015. That same Agency reports that 1.1 million persons were caught crossing the California/Mexico Border, on annual average, between 1980 and 2008. The Pew Research Center reports that we are at a 50 year low in illegal border crossings. Let us state again, "A 50 YEAR LOW!" We thank you in advance for your leadership, courage, and good representation of the voters of our great State. It is also our ardent hope that the other U.S./Mexico Border States follow our lead in denying construction of this completely absurd and unnecessary wall along the border of our neighbors to the south.

Every president has complied with this rule. D Trump is receiving money from foreign governments. How much Russian influence? Russians altered our presidential election. Where is the house and senate? Who is protecting the people? Where is the government?

I'm a lifetime member of Girl Scouts who earned the Gold Award over 20 years ago. When I read that Girl Scouts were walking in the Inauguration, I was upset but not worried. I figured there had been some clerical mistake or miscommunication on GSUSA's or, more likely, Trump's part. I became truly worried when the response from GSUSA to any & all Girl Scouts, present and former, was one of barely restrained contempt. For the spokesperson of GSUSA to pull out one or two lines from the Girl Scout promise & law: "I will respect authority" and "I will serve my country" and put those 2 lines above ALL other parts of the promise and law... it was a slap in the face to every American female The digging in of their heels. the "we will brook no argument", the "we are non-partisan"... This was all the talk of people who neither respected nor cared for the people who pay their salaries. So why would they do this? Looking through the background of each of the Executive Team's bios sheds light on why Girl Scouts came second and Trump came first. GSUSA is just a stepping stone for the GSUSA Executive Team. Few of them have any previous experience with Girl Scouts. Few of them have a history of charitable work. Although members of the Executive Team have little life history with Girl Scouts... they sure do have very full histories tied up with businesses & stock plans that will improve under a Trump presidency. Interim CEO Sylvia Acevedo is currently on the board of Synergis Eduction. This company will make a a huge profit if Trump is able to implement DeVos' privatization of schools. COO Anthony Doye worked with IBM, CompuCom, and UniSys. UniSys provided some cybersecurity in Obama's administration. It would be a feather in Doye's cap if Trump chose UniSys for his enhanced cybersecurity plan. The list goes on and on... Chief Development Officer Elena Pak was a member of the political think tank 'The Atlantic Council' which dealt with Energy (oil) in the Kazakhstan & Black Sea region. Chief Marketing Officer Lynn Godfrey worked for American Express Banking. Chief Revenue Barry Horowitz worked for NYC's Macy's Retail Stores. Chief Governance Officer Nhadine Leung worked for Chemical Bank. Chief of Staff Annette Freytag worked for IBM as well as "2 fortune 50" companies which she does not name in her bio. Chief Financial Officer Angela Olden worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry for FMC Corp. and finally, Chief Customer Officer Lisa Margosian worked for both Bank of America and the KIPP Network (the largest Charter School network in America). GSUSA has become tainted by leadership with partisan motivations. The Executive Team must divest themselves of all Trump ties and conflicts of interest OR they must step down. America is founded on the beliefs of equality, tolerance, and refuge. When we turned our backs on refugees, in 1939, it was effectively a death sentence for them, and they joined the millions of Jewish people who lost their lives in the Holocaust. As one of the most powerful nations in the world, we have a duty to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. It is morally unjust and unconstitutional for the country to carry out an anti-Muslim policy. The First Amendment of the Constitution clearly states that the government "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." This pertains to all religions, including Islam. By signing this petition, we take part in an act of moral resistance. Executive actions by President Trump's administration has threatened the residency of undocumented residents living and fruitfully residing and working in Dubuque, IA. We respectfully request that the City Council of the City of Dubuque, IA, resist any efforts by federal law enforcement agencies to arrest, detain, or deport any people living within Dubuque, IA peacefully. People living in Dubuque, IA, in a peaceful, law-abiding manner, should not be taken from their homes because of shortcomings in the federal immigration system.

Donald Trump's recent immigration executive orders unleashed the worst political humanitarian crisis in recent US history. He has directed his deportation force to separate immigrant families, barred refugees from fleeing life-threatening conditions, and banned legal permanent residents -- and even United States citizens with dual citizenship -- from entering the country because of their nations of origin. His orders are blatantly racist, Islamaphobic, and anti-immigrant. They are ill-conceived and morally reprehensible. But if enough members of Congress call on Donald Trump and DHS Secretary John Kelly to rescind their racist executive orders, the White House will have no choice to pull these orders. Members of Congress have a responsibility to intervene and stand up for ALL of their constituents. Please join us in demanding action to this nightmare.
