@SenJeffMerkley & @RonWyden: Oppose the Saudi arms deal!On August 8, the Obama administration notified Congress [1] of intent to sell $1.15 billion of weapons to Saudi Arabia, including tanks that would replace tanks destroyed in Saudi Arabia's war against Houthi rebels in Yemen. We urge Senator Jeff Merkley and Senator Ron Wyden to oppose this deal and to co-sponsor a Senate resolution against it. Past Congressional concerns about Saudi Arabia's war in Yemen have not been addressed. In October, Members of Congress wrote to the Administration [2] urging greater efforts to avoid civilian casualties in Yemen and achieve a diplomatic solution to the conflict. In June, 204 Members of the House, including 40 Republicans and all but 16 Democrats, voted to block the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia after reports of their use in civilian areas in Yemen. [3] Yet, since the proposed arms deal was announced, a Saudi airstrike on a school in Yemen killed 10 children [4] – some as young as 6-years-old – and a Saudi airstrike on an MSF hospital in Yemen killed 11 people. [5] Urge Senator Merkley and Senator Wyden to co-sponsor a resolution to disapprove the Saudi arms deal by signing our petition. Thank you, @USRepMikeDoyle, for supporting human rights in Honduras! When constituents delivered our petition [1] to him, Congressman Mike Doyle agreed to cosponsor HR 5474, the "Berta Caceres Human Rights in Honduras Act"! Rep. Doyle joins 31 (and counting) members of Congress who seek to stop US support for Honduran security forces as long as they continue to commit human rights violations with impunity. The Berta Caceres bill would suspend such US support until benchmarks have been met that demonstrate that the Honduran police and military cannot continue to kill, rape, kidnap, threaten and assault without consequence. Among these benchmarks are independent investigations into the notorious murders of Berta Caceres and other recent prominent, unsolved cases in which security forces are implicated, as well as the case of threats against journalist Felix Molina. Congressman Doyle says it's important to send a message with legislation such as the Berta Caceres bill. He's right: bills and letters like this are important in showing the Honduran government that people in Washington - and across the US - are paying attention. Please thank Congressman Mike Doyle for taking a stand for human rights by signing our petition. Oppose New Gas Pipeline at Indian Point Nuclear PlantI live in Manhattan and I'm also a journalist who has written about this lunatic project. But the entire nation should be concerned. Building a highly volatile natural gas pipeline to skirt the most accident-prone nuclear power plant in the world is unthinkable, yet it is going through. If the pipeline explodes, it could cause a Fukushima on the Hudson, affecting over 20 million New York State residents, making the entire region uninhabitable for generations, obliterating the financial center of the country and impacting the entire United States. I urge signatories to demand that their elected officials in turn demand that President Obama order the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to halt this dangerous construction.2,276 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Ellen Cantarow

Conspiracy: An Unjust ChargeI have been a witness to the disappearance of many young folks in poverty-stricken communities as they are swooped off the streets and sentenced to harsh terms in prison as a result of being convicted of conspiracy. My brothers, Robert (21) and Fatir (20) are at risk of spending the rest of their lives in prison, without a chance for rehabilitation. Please, don't wait until you are personally affected to take action against a charge that essentially is a threat to us all.52 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Shaunte Morgan

Cyclist SafetyWith the increasing number of cyclist/car crashes and drivers that are distracted, ignorant of the bike laws, and just don't/can't grasp the concept that driving within inches of a cyclist is highly dangerous and can kill that person, something needs to be done. Michigan has laws for drivers that injure or kill a road worker; it's $7500 and 15 years in jail. No ifs, ands, or buts, it's automatic. I think the same thing should be done for drivers who hit a cyclist.703 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Troy Hammond

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Donald J. Trump: Commit to No First Use of Nuclear weapons! One person shouldn’t have the power to end the world. The President alone holds the key to the U.S. nuclear arsenal and has the unchecked authority to launch these weapons. That is a problem no matter who is in the Oval Office because there is too much risk that the President will make a wrong and ultimately deadly decision. The United States has possessed nuclear weapons for 71 years and is the only nation to have used nuclear weapons first in war. Today, nuclear weapons are 10-20 times more powerful than the ones dropped on Japan during World War II. Any scope of nuclear war would cause unimaginable human suffering and planet-wide destruction. For these reasons, a nuclear attack must never happen again. One way to constrain the president’s nuclear launch authority and minimize the risk of nuclear attack would be through a “No First Use” policy. This policy would make it clear that that the United States would never use nuclear weapons first against another country. A No First Use policy would strengthen our national security by reducing the risk of launching nuclear weapons by accident or miscalculation. President Obama has little time left in office, but the perils of U.S. nuclear weapons will remain through the next administration. The Presidential candidates, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Donald J. Trump, must pledge that they would never authorize a first strike with America’s nuclear arsenal. They should take a pledge of No First Use. Re: Increase on Insulin for DiabeticsI have seen countless people in the midst of a diabetic emergency including my grandmother, my boyfriend, and patrons at the pool that I work. I think it is asinine that some people are forking out the equivalent of a mortgage for medicine that the rest of us produce naturally. Why are they being punished for something they have no control over?292 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Carissa Christensen
