Enterprise: Drive away from ALECEnterprise, the largest car rental company in the world, was recently revealed by the Center for Media and Democracy and the Guardian to be a dues-paying member of the American Legislative Exchange Council. ALEC helps right-wing lawmakers fulfill corporate wishlists on a variety of topics that undermine American health and safety – including spreading climate change denial and blocking climate solutions. Enterprise makes “green” commitments to plant trees and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in public but funds ALEC in private. Enterprise must cut ties with ALEC immediately.17,310 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Emily Southard

Stop Immoral Price Gouging for Life-Saving EpiPen*UPDATE: The company’s “solution” in the face of overwhelming public outcry is to offer more coupons. But it has not lowered the price ONE CENT. So keep the pressure up!* Millions of children and adults in the U.S. are at risk of fatal allergic reactions from common occurrences like getting stung by a bee or accidentally consuming peanuts. A pocket-sized medical device called an EpiPen can be a literal life-saver for these folks. But Mylan — the multinational pharmaceutical company that makes the EpiPen — has been steadily jacking up the price. - In 2007, the wholesale price on an EpiPen in the U.S. was $57. - Today, just nine years later, it’s over $300. - Even though each EpiPen contains only a few dollars’ worth of medicine. - Even though a two-pack is just $85 in France. - And even though Mylan, which has a near monopoly in the U.S., has seen its profits from the EpiPen alone skyrocket to $1.2 billion a year. Now, many people who could actually die without an EpiPen can’t afford one! Tell Mylan CEO Heather Bresch to immediately reduce the price of this life-and-death treatment that so many people depend on.331,799 of 400,000 SignaturesCreated by Glenn Simpson

Tell Mifflin County (PA) Commissioner to resign for bigoted postsMifflin County Commissioner Lisa Nancollas (Republican) was caught posting bigoted Facebook posts on her campaign site. She has since taken them down, but they are available on news sites, including her hometown paper (http://lewistownsentinel.com/page/content.detail/id/588669/Facebook-post-stirs-controversy.html?nav=5010). She still has anti-Islam posts on her personal Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/mifflincountyteaparty?ref=br_rs). The first post was a meme — an image, often with text, meant to be spread widely through the internet — of a mosque with a red “no” symbol covering it. It also said “No Islam Allowed.” The commissioner followed the post with a message for anyone following her page. “If you don’t like what I post on my wall then don’t look at my wall,” the second post said. “Also, I believe in the Christian God. I don’t believe in Islam, sharia law nor do I believe in Allah.” She said people “are only allowed in the kingdom of God if they accept God as their savior not Allah,” in a third post. She has since deleted the meme but has continued posting about Islam.5,255 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill

Senator Toomey: Disavow Donald TrumpDuring a recent radio interview, Senator Toomey claimed that Hillary Clinton poses a greater threat to the U.S. than Donald Trump. As a veteran who served for years in military intelligence, I know Senator Toomey is wrong. Donald Trump is more dangerous for our national security than any nominee in the history of the nation, regardless of party affiliation. Throughout this campaign, Donald Trump has shown again and again that he is irrational, impulsive, and utterly unqualified to be President. On the use of nuclear weapons he has said “we need unpredictability.” He won’t commit to protecting our NATO allies, has asked Russia to conduct cyber attacks against the United States, and has even claimed that President Obama is "the founder of ISIS." These are just a few of the reasons that former Governor Tom Ridge and 49 Republican security experts wrote a letter warning that Trump "would be the most reckless President in American history.” Join me in telling Senator Toomey that he needs to listen to the people of Pennsylvania--veterans and military families alike--and help keep our country safe by clearly stating he does not support Donald Trump.1,737 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Kimberly Bonner

Protect California's Clean Air LawsUPDATE: The California legislature just passed SB 32 and AB 197. It's a huge victory, but our work is not done. *Sign the petition and urge legislators in the Assembly and the Senate to pass SB 1383. Short-lived climate super pollutants like methane pose a serious risk to the health and prosperity of all Californians, and the passage of SB 1383 is crucial to protecting our clean air for future generations. ### California has a long history of leadership and strong legislative action when it comes to protecting the state’s air quality and fighting climate change. From the Clean Air Act of 1970, to the Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) of 2006, California’s track record is second to none. With only two weeks left in California’s legislative session, there is an opportunity to extend California’s landmark climate legislation, AB 32, which requires greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced to 1990 levels by the year 2020. Big Oil has poured millions of dollars into attempts to weaken our clean air laws. The oil companies are focused on profits instead of our health and climate and are unrelenting in their efforts to weaken these crucial targets. By taking action now, we can stand up to the oil companies and strengthen our clean air laws. If passed, SB 32 and AB 197 would improve upon AB 32 by further reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030, while strengthening California’s legislative authority and ensuring transparency and accountability. Legislators will also consider SB 1383, which works to reduce super-pollutants like black carbon, methane, and fluorinated gases. These super-pollutants threaten our climate, clean air, and our health. It’s largely low-income people of color who suffer the health consequences. It’s not right, and it’s time to take a stand against this injustice. We cannot let the oil companies defeat these important measures to strengthen our clean air laws because the facts show our clean air policies are working. We’ve cut toxic pollution, improved kids’ health, and created 500,000 clean energy jobs in California. Stand up to the oil companies and strengthen California’s clean air laws. Tell Governor Brown and legislators to continue standing strong against the oil companies.76 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tom Steyer

Homeland Security: Cut Your Private Prison TiesThe Department of Justice announced that it is cancelling its contracts with private prison companies because of dangers and abuses outlined in exposés and a recent official government report(1). However, the majority of federal private prison contracts are actually held by the Department of Homeland Security for its sprawling immigrant detention facilities. While private prisons make up 8% of the prison population, they made up 62% of immigrant detention in 2014(2). In the wake of the Dept. of Justice announcement(3), the stock price for the main private prison companies plummeted. But they've told shareholders that immigrant detention is a stable investment and a growth industry. The Department of Homeland Security even has plans to open a NEW detention center to house transgender detainees in Texas. But all of those immigrant prisons are also dangerous and riddled with abuses. 12 people have died just at a single Corrections Corporation of America facility, the Eloy Detention Center in Arizona. Conditions there prompted a call for a Congressional investigation after a suspicious "suicide" last summer(4) and there are multiple demands for investigation into four sexual assault cases where guards are accused of abusing detainees. What is true about the findings of private prisons under the Department of Justice is true in immigrant detention under the Department of Homeland Security only at a larger scale. As long as private prisons exist, they'll just be recycled between government agencies. With the Department of Justice moving to end its contracts, private companies today will be looking for new customers and the Obama administration needs to make sure that DHS and no other government agency will be their clients. As we push for an end to immigrant detention, sign to remove the profit motive from detention. Background: 1. Department of Homeland Security: Stop Using Private Prisons Now!The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced that it plans to reduce, and ultimately end, its use of privately operated prisons. While the Department of Justice decisions will impact 13 privately operated federal prisons, it does not affect the over 100 of privately operated prisons that the Department of Homeland Security uses to detain undocumented immigrants. This means that the Department of Homeland Security will continue to use the same private prison operators over which the Department of Justice expressed "safety and security" concerns - subjecting thousands of immigrant detainees to the inhumane conditions of prisons owned by corporations like Corrections Corporation of America, the GEO Group, and the Management and Training Corporation. Private prisons have a well documented history of abusive practices and human rights violations, which the Department of Homeland Security often disregards. What is worse, private prisons often cut critical services, programs, and resources just to maximize their profits - leaving detainees without medications or other essential needs. If we want to stop private prison corporations from abusing and profiting from the incarceration of human beings, then we need all federal agencies to end their use of private prisons. We demand that the Department of Homeland Security decline to renew its contracts with private prison corporations!8,996 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Juan Escalante
