• Tell Commerce City No To A Truck Terminal at 104th and Hwy 2!
I hope everyone will realize the gravity of the situation at large regarding economic development and the specific development of this truck terminal. This is for the community as a whole. This petition is a means to start real change and show the city officials that we are not just complainers that are easily pacified by minimal results, weightless promises, or passage of time. It shows we desire real results and are willing to take the time to see them done and to see our tax dollars put to good use. See this as the first initial positive investment in the long-term growth and success of our community, the success of your personal home, and the continued enjoyment of this beautiful area! Please sign immediately, so we can get this to the officials before this truck stop is approved and it is too late. It is easy to complain and harder to change after the fact. Take this simple step to voice your opinion. This is not a political platform, movement, and not even based upon personal political ideology. This is our given right as citizens of this great country. Take this simple step to show that our elected officials are accountable to a democratic system; they are accountable us! Please note that I cannot change the text after signatures have been gained. Thus, while the title has been changed to reflect a "terminal" rather than truck stop, the only difference in the points would be the potential to disregard the crime linked to "truck stops" specifically. However, please not the remaining points of pollution, traffic congestion, and image still remain valid concerns. While the criminal activity may be lessened, I still posit the potential for increased criminal activity should be considered.

  • Let us vote on the MRC/Fiberight plan
I am starting this petition because elected officials in Camden are failing to listen to the voice of voters who spoke loudly at town meetings against their choice of sending our waste to an incinerator in Portland for the next 20 years. We were given an extension by the MRC until August 31st to make this decision and still be entitled to rebates down the road. The MRC has served us well for the past 25 years and our community deserves a chance to vote on staying with the group.

  • Save Monarch Butterflies and Native Pollinators
Monarch Butterfly Populations have declined by 90% in recent years. Chiefly due to loss of habitat from development. Monarch butterfly caterpillars can only eat our native Common Milkweed, Swamp Milkweed, and Butterfly weed-- all species of Asclepias. As I travel around our state I notice freeway medians completely mowed, roadsides on state and US highways mowed for 100 yards and more, and on and off ramps mowed entirely. These are all prime sites for milkweeds and other native wildflowers to grow. Our native bees are also in serious decline. They also depend on wildflowers, including milkweeds to survive. Please stop mowing such wide areas. One mower width on the edges of roads should be enough to provide for traffic safety. This would also save fuel, reduce air pollution, and save dollars spent on manhours to provide vehicle maintenance and mowing- all of which are paid for by taxpayers.

  • Tell Colorado Republican Mike Coffman to Disavow Donald Trump
Donald Trump is attacking immigrants with hateful racist rhetoric, and his campaign of fear and anger has inspired some his supporters to harass and attack people of color here in Colorado and across the country. But rather than standing up to Donald Trump defending his constituents against Donald Trump racist rhetoric, Colorado Republican, Mike Coffman, is twisting himself into contortions to gain the support of immigrant voters in his district while pandering to Trump supporters motivated by fear and anger. Recently, in the course of a day, Coffman’s campaign ran ads distancing himself from Trump, while simultaneously refusing to rule out an eventual Trump endorsement. Mike Coffman is trying to play both sides, but we’re not buying it. Incidents of violence toward communities of color by Donald Trump supporters are on the rise, and it’s time for Mike Coffman to pick a side. History is watching.

  • One Vote Against Trump
We get it: Hillary might not be your first choice this election. But many of us know that Trump, a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and someone who regularly incites violence and political discord, is NOT an alternative that we can live with. If elected President, he will destroy our values and our country. The options might not be satisfactory, but we MUST stop Trump. If each one of us succeeds in changing the mind of just ONE Trump voter, he will lose.

  • INCREASE TYRONE JACKSON'S BAIL!
Pennsylvania lawmakers must toughen its laws on drunk drivers and make it harder for them to receive driver's licenses back after causing death; increase their bail in vehicular homicide cases and stronger sentencing.

  • Block the Dow-DuPont Merger
Dow and DuPont, two of the largest seed and chemical companies in the United States, have announced a plan to merge into a $130 billion company. This mega-merger is bad news for the food system. Just a handful of large chemical companies already control most of the seed supply used to grow crops like corn and soybeans, as well as the herbicides that genetically engineered seeds are designed to be grown with. As this merger consolidates the seed market into fewer hands, farmers will be left with fewer choices and higher prices for seeds. And it will make it harder for our agriculture system to get off the GMO-chemical treadmill that just keeps increasing in speed. Federal regulators should block this merger to prevent further corporate control of the agriculture industry. Sign the petition and tell the Department of Justice to make sure this merger does not go through!

  • .@JohnKerry: Stop Demolition of Palestinian Village of Susya
In days, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman will decide whether to destroy 40% of the Palestinian village of Susya, leaving a hundred people homeless. [1] Susya residents live on their agricultural lands, having been expelled from their original homes after an Israeli settlement was established nearby. Systematically denied building permits for decades, the families live in constant fear of demolitions. Parts of their village were bulldozed in 2001, 2006 and 2011. In July 2015, envoys from every EU state visited the village in solidarity. A month later, the U.S. expressed strong opposition to “any demolitions in the village.” But apparently, these statements have not been enough to make sure these families don’t see their homes destroyed again. Urge Secretary Kerry to use the full influence of the United States to prevent the demolition of Susya by signing our petition. • A new low: Officials in Georgia have sent police officers to challenge Black voters' registration...
This is outrageous: officials in a Georgia county have sent police officers to citizens' homes, not because they committed any crimes, but to challenge their right to vote! According to the New York Times, last year Hancock County, Georgia, officials required more than 180 Black voters in the town of Sparta to appear in court and prove their residence —or lose their right to vote, as many already have. By all outside appearances, such tactics were designed to keep Black voters from electing the candidate of their choice. The terrifying precedent this sets is bigger than one election. Imagine a police officer showing up at your door to deny your right to vote. Worse, they're putting the burden of proof on YOU, forcing you to show up at a court hearing to get your rights back. It’s easy to see how this kind of intimidation could cause voters to stay home in November. And since these anti-voter tactics often target communities of color, they distort and weaken our democracy. If we still had the Voting Rights Act, Hancock County officials would have had to get approval from the Department of Justice before they moved forward with their scheme. But in 2013, the Supreme Court said the VRA's protections weren't needed anymore. Now, racist attacks on the right to vote across our nation are proving the highest Court in the land is wrong. It's clear we need to reinstate the Voting Rights Act's protections against this kind of egregious voter suppression. Call on Congress to pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act today and restore these critical protections that ensure every American has a voice at the polls.

  • AARP, Stop Funding ALEC
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is an extreme right-wing lobbying group that helps lawmakers pass harmful bills for the benefit of their corporate buddies. ALEC is funded by fossil fuel companies and blocks climate action, causing health impacts to seniors today and endangering our grandchildren’s future. ALEC also makes life harder for seniors by protecting price-gouging drug companies, advocating against Medicaid expansion, and more. ALEC does not represent AARP's values, and AARP must take a stand by ending their support of ALEC immediately.

  • Appoint Joseph E. Stiglitz as Director of the National Economic Council
Joseph E. Stiglitz (2001 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences and Chief Economist of the Roosevelt Institute) has recently published a book entitled "Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy" which proposes to fight inequality by changing the fundamental structure of the American economy to offer freedom from exploitation instead of freedom from regulation. This book grew out of a collaborative report (Rewriting the Rules: An Agenda for Growth and Shared Prosperity) from the Roosevelt Institute in consultation with labor officials, academics, congressional staff members, advocates from Color of Change, Naral and the Black Civic Engagement Fund. The report and book propose 37 policy recommendations including rewriting laws of lending practices, postal bank, a public option for mortgages, taxing corporations on global income, enacting financial-transaction taxes, strengthening the right of collective bargaining, higher living wages, gender and racial pay equality, affordable child care, public spending for public goods via break-even enterprises (schools, housing, roads, broadband, high-speed rail, smart grid, green buildings), Medicare open to all, expansion of Social Security via voluntary public investment accounts, etc (ref 1). J. E. Stitglitz has also published a six-piece analysis of the TPP entitled "Tricks of the Trade Deal: Six Big Problems with the Trans-Pacific Partnership" (ref 2).
