Support the Olympic Refugee teamThis year, the International Olympic Committee made history by announcing the first-ever Refugee Olympic Team. These ten athletes are worldwide heroes, and have captured the world’s attention and admiration during the Olympic games. These athletes have each faced incredible odds. Yusra Mardini, who fled the violence in Syria, risked her life to save the lives of 19 others—diving into the treacherous waters of the Aegean Sea and using her Olympic swimming skill to push a sinking boat to land. She swam in freezing waters for more than three hours—and surviving the sea was just one small part of her journey to safety. Just like Yusra, 34,000 people are forcibly displaced every day—and those fleeing violence in their home countries need our compassion and support now. Right-wing politicians want to limit the number of families fleeing violence that the United States helps—some have even called on the U.S. to stop accepting refugees all together, a policy radically out of line with American values. Secretary of State Kerry has the authority to restore the United States refugee acceptance rate back to 200,000 people, as it was when the Refugee Act of 1980 was passed. Kerry announced that the U.S. would accept 100,000 refugees a year starting in 2017–but surely the United States can offer a safe haven for so many more–as we have in the past.212 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Justin Krebs

Recognize Indigenous Peoples Day in BostonAll over the country and throughout the Americas, cities and towns are ending the celebration of Columbus. He was certainly not a hero, nor did he “discover” a continent that was already inhabited by many millions of Indigenous Peoples. Columbus and his men were responsible for the rape, murder and enslavement of countless Native people. It’s time for Boston to join Cambridge, Seattle, Denver, Albuquerque and many other cities and recognize Indigenous Peoples Day! Since the 1970s, Indigenous Peoples from throughout the Americas have sought to have Indigenous Peoples Day declared in October in place of Columbus Day. We consider it a first step in recognizing the genocide of millions of Indigenous people and the theft of their lands that began with the arrival of Columbus. Indigenous Peoples Day is much more than a name change. It is a refusal to allow the genocide of Indigenous Peoples to go unremembered. It is also an initial step in honoring and reconciling with present-day Native Peoples who live in and near Boston. Commemorating Indigenous Peoples Day on the second Monday in October is a recognition that we need to stop honoring false heroes such as Columbus and start honoring the Native Peoples on whose land we live and walk. Tell 21st Century Fox : Release The Findings Of Your Investigation of Sexual Harassment at Fox NewsI’ve seen first-hand the impact of workplace sexism and sexual harassment. No one deserves to work in a place where he or she is objectified, belittled, and harassed with no recourse and no support. This case is so visible—and the alleged harassment is so extensive and alarming—it’s imperative that the investigation and its results don’t get swept under the rug. 21st Century Fox is already giving Ailes a massive payout just to walk away—reportedly in excess of $40 million! If 21st Century Fox is truly taking these allegations seriously, they’ll release the findings of their investigation to the public. Since former Fox News host Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment suit against the network’s chief executive Roger Ailes, dozens of other women have come forward with stories of Ailes’ sexism, harassment, and worse. Disturbingly, many of the allegations include details of how other Fox executives knew about and enabled his harassment of women at the network over his decades-long career. Getting rid of Ailes was a long overdue start. But we've long passed the point where Fox News can be trusted to run their own internal review, considering the toxic message of misogyny and sexism the network has cultivated over the years.1,004 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Rachel Tardiff, Media Matters for America

Governor Hutchinson: RESTORE VOTING RIGHTS to Arkansas CitizensI have a relative who is an ex-felon living in a southern state. The reinstatement of voting rights for ex-felons, and preservation of voting rights for non-felons!, is a personal issue for me as well as something I think every citizen of the US should be concerned with. Wholesale rescinding of voters' rights, and the placing of obstacles in the way of justice, fly in the face of American values.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jerise Fogel

Revert Fannie Mae's changes to the treatment of Student LoansThis is about those taking out student loans again being disadvantaged for taking out loans to further one's education. If one's monthly payment plan under an Income base repayment plan is $350, one's payment shouldn't be $2000 for the calculation of one's DTI for purchasing a home.33 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sam Weiss

Petition by Members of the National Association of Social Workers To Hold a Special Meeting of th...PETITION BACKGROUND [NOTE: When you sign the petition, please include in the Comment field the name of your NASW Chapter.] The Coalition of Concerned Members of NASW, who is initiating this petition, is committed to preventing the consolidation of the Association’s 55 Chapters into its National administrative apparatus. Legal consultation with leading corporate governance lawyers has supported the position of the Coalition that NASW's National Board has overstepped its authority, based on NASW Bylaws, to implement a sweeping reorganization of the Association referred to as "Modernization". Instead, it is the responsibility of the Association’s Delegate Assembly to decide on any such guiding policies of the Association. The Coalition believes that such a reorganization will create a more dysfunctional top-down organization, with far fewer democratic checks and balances, and will result in an Association much less responsive to members in each of its Chapters. It, therefore, rejects the decision of the Board to implement the ‘Modernization’ initiative, and insists that the Delegate Assembly, as representative of the members, is the legitimate body to decide on any such reorganization of the Association. Furthermore, the Coalition recognizes the importance of enshrining the existence and functioning of the Delegate Assembly (DA) as the exclusive body entitled to set overarching policies of the association and create or revise bylaws. It is far more representative of the members than the National Board, which should be focused more on operational matters. We believe that such a simple direct statement, amended to our Articles of Incorporation, will provide the DA authority to decide on its decision making rules, e.g. Robert’s Rules of Order, how often it meets, and how it is conducted, live or online.627 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Christopher Hudson

Reasonable Growth on El Camino in San MateoSan Mateo needs more housing, but the proposed Hillsdale Terraces project has issues with scale, parking, traffic and public safety. Only a smaller structure makes sense. (Copy and paste this link into your browser to see what it would look like): https://www.dropbox.com/s/iiukhmp7n83dezw/Visualize%205%20Stories.jpg?dl=0 SCALE: Look at the photo link above. The project overpowers the street. There is *no* 5 story residence on the El Camino sidewalk for 5 miles in either direction. All tall projects are either set back with landscaping or have recessed upper floors. PARKING: 51 cars will look for on-street parking every night. That is because there are only 1.3 spaces instead of the standard of 2.0 per average 2 bedroom unit. The nearby streets are already full. TRAFFIC: The traffic for all 74 units plus two potential restaurant ground floor uses will exit and enter on 27th and 28th Avenues just in front of El Camino. As they cross 27th and 28th, they will block traffic. SAFETY: Lot constraints force the project so close to the sidewalk that the typical curb cut for a bus stop is impossible, so buses must stop in El Camino traffic. With the building out of Bay Meadows and the pending 28th Avenue connector to it, there will be greatly increased pedestrian crossings at El Camino. The 27th Avenue fire station must drive past the project exit to reach El Camino. These issues are not addressed. Without your input, the city will assume everyone likes the plan. With your input, they will make changes.512 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Walter Schwartz

Use of Disaster Relief Funds to defend HB2I have my own religious beliefs but do not think they should be imposed upon other citizens or cost the tax payers. Moreover, God is love and requires us to love our families, neighbors and enemies and we must treat people as we wish to be treated so discrimination is not part of God's plan and HB2 should not be used in the name of religion.34 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ann Harlan
