Junipero Serra High School is participating in a "Lenten Justice Project" where our focus is on raising money and awareness for the financially impoverished of San Mateo County. We also want to make policy changes. The bay area is a very expensive place to live. More and more people are becoming homeless because of the cost of living and low wages. We don't want to kick them off the streets or make criminals out of them for not having a place to call home. Our mission is to be in solidarity with and to fight for those who don't have a roof over their heads.

There are about 2.4 million people who live in the United States but are effectively ignored by the Environmental Protection Agency. How is this possible? They live in prisons. It is appalling that our government is exempting millions of people from basic environmental and health safeguards. Prisoners aren't the only ones harmed by this indifference -- prison guards, visitors, and neighbors feel the harmful effects of toxic policies. Tell the EPA: environmental justice does not stop at the prison gates.

With the stroke of his pen, President Obama can establish a national monument and secure an everlasting legacy for this iconic landmark. He already has the backing of LGBT advocacy groups and local community leaders. Help create the nation's first national park unit focusing on LGBT Americans!

It is the right thing to do, it is necessary to do; we must end the destroying of hundreds of thousands of young lives by criminalizing them for a harmless natural substance wrongly criminalized to enhance profits over people.

On March 31, world leaders will gather for the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C. to take steps to prevent an act of nuclear terrorism. Their approach is focused solely on securing nuclear material. The world's 15,000 nuclear weapons -- which pose a far greater risk of catastrophe -- aren’t even on the agenda. There can be no such thing as "nuclear security" so long as nuclear weapons exist. If we're serious about preventing a nuclear catastrophe, what we need now is a Nuclear Weapons Summit that brings the key countries together to discuss real, time-bound, actionable plans to eliminate nuclear weapons. Please send your message today and call the Adams County Commissioners at 720-523-6100 insisting that they renew the current moratorium on drilling permits immediately—at least through the November elections, when statewide ballot measures may provide additional rights and protections to communities. Adams County is being targeted for scores of new, polluting oil and gas wells near homes and schools. Oil and gas production facilities release dangerous toxins and ozone-precursors into the air; place communities at risk for spills, fires, and explosions; and impose other unacceptable burdens on residents. Sound Transit's Link Light Rail has recently expanded to include service to Capitol Hill and UW. While this is an excellent addition, the last service both to and from these areas is before 1AM. Most bars close at 2AM, leaving riders to take a taxi or rideshare back, so instead some people choose to drive - and then drive home drunk. Expanding service until 2:30AM on Fridays/Saturdays and 1:30AM on other days would not only help decrease drunk driving but likely be cost effective given the high demand of Seattle's excellent bars, which are now served by the new stations. This petition is to request that the Sound Transit Board of Directors expand operating hours for the good of public safety and service to our community.

Despite Donald Trump's sexist, racist comments, Amazon is promoting and profiting from him and his brand. The online behemoth sells Trump's line of menswear--even though companies like Macy's bailed on Trump's brand of hate last year. Trump is inciting violence at his rallies and spewing vitriol that white supremacists like David Duke love. So why is Amazon continuing to support the Trump empire? Many of us use Amazon, and the company has responded to our pressure before over the selling of sexist products. It needs to follow suit when it comes to Trump products. Will you add your name now?

Students are being forced to take tests that don't accurately represent their abilities, and they aren't able to show their abilities in real life situations. I have been made and am being made to take these tests that don't show how capable I am to learn and apply my abilities to real life situations.

Because there is no other job in the world where you can refuse to perform the required duties and still be paid. Why then should the Senate receive their salary for doing nothing?

Before streaming obliterated CD sales, musicians could work hard and potentially sell CDs to maintain a modest career using CD Baby or Itunes. Now, Spotify and the major labels, as well as Apple Music, have destroyed the impetus to compensate musicians and the respect for the musician as the creator of works of art is eroding. Many accept that Music creation should be seen as a hobby. As professional musicians-We cannot accept this view of Music and Art creation. We want to be compensated fairly for our music! .10 per play adds up to $15 if each song on a CD is streamed 10x. Valuation of music at this rate encourages people to purchase a CD. This gives sustenance to the actual creator of the music! Streaming tends to devalue an entire industry by stripping musicians of profits and creating tech savvy billionaires by passing unfair copyright and usage laws. #wealththroughmusic seeks to keep musicians in the middle class! Streaming creates corporate piracy of our entire life source.
