• Please Pass Bills Protecting Homeowners in HOAs
Most people do not have the $5000 to $30,000 that is required in legal bills to take on their homeowner's association when it acts illegally. That is why the RICO office was tasked with insuring that HOAs acted legally. Oddly, RICO has excluded planned communities and low income communities from being helped. These bills clarify the original intent of the law.

  • Save Costilla School House
This building was part of President Roosevelt's New Deal and was built out of the Work Project Act (WPA), using government money for the Community of Costilla. The purpose of the WPA was to put people back to work to get them out of the Great Depression. This building was property of the Community, how the school district ended up with ownership is up for question. It was built around 1941 or 42. The first class to start in this building was in 1943 starting from the 7th grade. We are asking the School Board to stop the demolition of this Historical Building until past and present members of the community can look into funding mechanisms so that we can renovate the building for the use of the Community.

  • Congress: Debate and Vote Before New Libya War
The Obama administration is drawing up plans to significantly escalate U.S. military action in Libya. Administration officials say the campaign in Libya could begin in a matter of weeks. This escalation is being planned without a meaningful debate in Congress about the merits and risks of a military campaign, the New York Times notes. Pentagon officials have not made a case that the proposed military action has achievable goals, and airstrikes could lead to a ground war. [1] If Congress takes no action, endless war will likely be extended to a new country, without time limit, without restrictions on the use of U.S. ground troops, and without any limit on who can be targeted, even if they have never attacked the United States nor shown any public inclination to do so. Urge Congress to exercise its responsibilities under the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution by debating and voting on U.S. military escalation in Libya before it happens by signing our petition at MoveOn. • Support Our New Hospital’s Success with Urgently Needed Bridge Financing
The good news for the people of West Sonoma County is that our new community hospital is flourishing. In just three short months since reopening, business has surpassed expectations. The in-patient daily census at Sonoma West Medical Center (SWMC), which averages nearly 14 people a day, continues to rise, and is already 50% higher than Palm Drive Hospital was during the year before it closed. The no-wait emergency room is saving lives, with about 20 patients every day. More than 100 lab tests are being run daily, and surgeries have commenced. Locals say they feel safer and are relieved that they no longer have to face long hours of waiting in Santa Rosa hospitals. The humane, personal care that made Palm Drive the safest hospital in the entire State of California is back, and patients have never been happier. Unfortunately, millions of dollars of Medicare, Medi-Cal and private insurance reimbursements are facing long bureaucratic delays. The impact of this delayed reimbursement means that SWMC’s philanthropic reserves have been used up. Once reimbursement arrives, our hospital will be making the money it needs to be self-sustaining. But until then, SWMC will require bridge financing. That’s why the Friends of Sonoma West Medical Center have created this petition to urge the Palm Drive Health Care District Board members to fulfill their obligation to make sure that our precious hospital will not close while waiting to be paid for services rendered. To provide bridge financing during this critical time, we urge the District Board to advance our hospital $700,000 from its ample cash account, and to immediately request that the Board of Supervisors provide an emergency advance of one million dollars against this year’s tax revenue from the County Assessor’s office. After all, the tax Measure passed by 70% of voters in 2004 stated that the purpose of our parcel tax is “to ensure survival of Palm Drive Hospital and access to local emergency, acute care, medical and physician services, and provide for ongoing expenses, repair and improvements to equipment and technology.” Such County Assessor advances are frequently granted to help other County agencies and special districts overcome cash flow challenges. Less than two years ago, Sonoma County’s Board of Supervisors provided an emergency loan of $1.8 million to finance the closure of Palm Drive Hospital. During this critical period, the people of West Sonoma County have a more urgent need: bridge financing to ensure that our life-saving hospital stays open until the money it has earned comes in.

  • New Mexico Legislators: Protect us from predatory lending
Our state is one of the poorest in the country and I know how hard it is to make loan payments that you just can't afford. The storefront lending business is built on aggressively marketing fast and easy cash then encouraging loan rollovers that boost payments well beyond what borrowers can afford. The default rate has caused an estimated 4 out of 10 car title borrowers to lose their cars. We just can't afford 175%, 300% and higher loan rates.

  • Tell Senator Ted Cruz to act on climate change
Senator Ted Cruz claims climate change is a "religion." As the world's nations gathered to sign a historic climate agreement in Paris in November, Senator Cruz was back home hosting climate change deniers in a Senate hearing aimed at casting doubt on climate science. Yet in his home state of Texas, 2015 saw both extreme drought and epic flooding—extreme weather that has been linked to climate change. Hundreds lost their homes in the Memorial Day weekend floods. Senator Cruz should acknowledge the science of global warming and develop a plan to protect Texas and the rest of the country from the worst impacts of climate change.

  • Tell Senator Marco Rubio to act on climate change
15 South Florida mayors—both Republican and Democrat—are challenging Senator Marco Rubio to meet with them about how rising seas are disrupting their communities. As a U.S. Senator representing Florida, Marco Rubio has every reason to understand climate change. After all, Florida is the state most at risk of flooding and his hometown of Miami is one of the cities most vulnerable to sea level rise in the world. Yet Marco Rubio said he doesn't "agree with the notion that some are putting out there, including scientists, that somehow, there are actions we can take today that would actually have an impact on what's happening in our climate." Local leaders and constituents directly affected by climate change are a powerful force for holding candidates accountable. Along with our partners at the CLEO Institute, we are working to get their message out. Stand with the South Florida mayors by signing our petition calling on all presidential candidate to act on climate change. We’ll deliver it in person in New Hampshire before the primary.

  • Vote NO on SB 318
The Florida House has passed HB 191, which will make it illegal for our local governments to ban fracking in their area. But its not too late, the Florida Senate still needs to vote and their bill is still in committee. We need to come together and let them know, our local communities should be making these decisions, and the State Legislature has no right taking that away from us. Please pass this along to as many people you know. We dont have much time.
