The government's takeover of Zaman newspaper is the latest deeply troubling episode in the Turkish authorities’ ongoing onslaught on dissenting media, Amnesty International says. The week before, TV channel IMCTV was taken off air, silencing the only national news channel reporting a critical view of the situation in south-eastern Turkey, where round-the-clock curfews were imposed as armed clashes devastated entire towns. [1] Kurdish residents recently returned to the town of Cizre in south-eastern Turkey to find many of their homes obliterated by the government's military campaign to crush Kurdish rebels. [2] Some residents called the destruction a "second Kobani," referring to the Kurdish town in Syria that endured a brutal siege at the hands of ISIS. [3] Turkey's most prominent journalist compared it to Dresden in 1945. Already, three of the twenty-one Democratic governors in the USA are publicly pledging their support to a candidate who lost the primary/caucus in his state. We demand that they pledge their superdelegate vote to the winner of their state, whomever that may be.

Superdelegates are not determined through the election process and should not be included in delegate counts reported during election coverage. Superdelegates may, and have been known to, change which candidate they support, often based on the popular vote. This practice is misleading, especially to less informed viewers.

The WCA Board will vote on Thursday, March 10, to determine whether or not our elementary school will become a 5-track school, and whether there will be expansion to the elementary and MS/HS buildings. We must voice our opposition before they vote, to prevent our school from expanding too much, too fast.

As a resident of California, I know that the state of our democracy affects us all. The priority corporate interests have taken over the well-being of citizens illustrates the crisis we are in. Only by uniting and demanding change will we be able to see progress.

It's time to bring democracy back to our Democratic election process and have a fair election without superdelegates tipping the scales. The reason for primaries and caucuses are for the U.S. people to vote, not a bunch of legislators, who are given promises for their vote. Let the voters' votes count and LET'S END SUPERDELEGATES!!

Honduras has lost one of its most courageous indigenous leaders, Berta Caceres. Caceres was the General Coordinator of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras. In 2015, she won the Goldman Environmental Prize for her activism and leadership. She was assassinated on March 2. At her memorial service on March 5, Berta's children read a statement from Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. In his statement, Leahy said: "the investigation of this crime must be independent and comprehensive, including the participation of international experts. Those responsible for ordering and carrying it out must be brought to justice…the Rio Blanco and the territory that Berta devoted her life to defend, should be protected. The Agua Zarca dam project should be abandoned." [1] U.S. government policy is implicated in Berta's death. The U.S. government has financed and defended the Honduran government that failed to protect Berta's life. [2] Senator Leahy has said future U.S. aid to the government of Honduras should be tied to the outcome of an independent investigation into the assassination. We need to get this initiative on the ballot and for that we need not only signatures, but the support of our local officials. Too many people are working and because of the low wages are still unable to live the life they want. We shouldn't have to make the choice to pay our light bill OR pay our phone bill. We need a raise.
