• Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee: Cut ties with private prisons!
Hillary Clinton must reject for-profit incarceration, disavow the private prison industry, and oppose private prisons in policy platforms. We are appalled that Secretary Clinton is using private prison industry lobbyists as "money bundlers" to raise huge sums of money for her presidential campaign. These bundlers are lobbyists from the same private prison companies that make billions from our broken and discriminatory criminal justice system by disproportionately locking up Black and brown people in the country's most dangerous prisons, for profit. And, influenced by the private prison lobby, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is required to keep at least 34,000 immigrants locked up (most in private prison owned facilities) at a cost to taxpayers of $2 billion per year! We expect more from those who seek our votes. We urge Secretary Clinton to sever all ties with the private prison industry immediately.

  • Step Stools for Tots
To provide equal access for kids using public restrooms. As a parent I faced challenges lifting my kids up to the sink. Now, as a grandparent the task is even more difficult. It must be mandated that stores provide clean, safe and stable step stools in each of their public restrooms.

  • MANDATORY POLICE training in diffusing situations before they can become a officer
Policing all over the country is getting away from the real purpose why we have a police force. Police need to get back on track with policing and treating everyone with the same respect that they would expect, even when provoked. If police are given a chance to be hands on in the community with the people they will be policing, I think they can and will better serve/protect without the use of a gun, or violence. Make them spend time in the churches, spend time in the drug centers, learn how people with mental health issues act, learn how to cope with them. Get training on fun range in non lethal shooting points.

  • Demand better working conditions at Family Care!
Dina Lara is a Certified Nursing Assistant with over 28 years of experience in the health care field. Recently, Dina was fired from her job at Family Care VNA & Home Care for speaking out in favor of stronger workplace protections like a fair schedule, paid sick days and paid family and medical leave. Dina decided to get involved in a campaign for economic justice after she was forced to take unpaid time off to undergo gallbladder surgery. She took only a few days off to recover. Her doctor told her she needed 2 weeks of rest, but she makes only $10 an hour and could not afford to miss out on more pay. When she returned to work, her hours were drastically reduced. She ended up back in the hospital. Dina bravely shared her story and advocated for paid family leave so no one else would have to go through what happened to her. She testified in favor of bills at the Connecticut statehouse, and participated in press conferences and roundtables with Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and Senator Chris Murphy. Because of her advocacy, Family Care fired Dina, claiming she 'bashed the company'. She had been a loyal and hardworking employee there for over three years. This is unacceptable. Dina has dedicated her life to caring for others, but who is taking care of her? We must stand with her now!

  • It is time to recall Gov. Branstad
First Gov. Branstad turned away vets with severe PTSD by closing beds at the Veteran's home. Now, severely mentally ill clients are receiving poor care because the nursing homes to not have the skill set to care for these people. Now is the time to show the world that laws that protect endangered species should be upheld and followed in Zimbabwe and here in the United States. We are all awaiting...the people coming from all walks of life, all the animal welfare and rights advocates that you execute your power to extradite him here from our country and bring him to justice. We know that there is a process but it is time for someone who broke your law be held accountable. We have to bring this outlaw to justice!

  • Assemblymember Dababneh: Vote YES on SB 185!
Our State Assembly will be voting on the Climate Package of bills in just a few weeks. Matt Dababneh hasn't announced his position on this crucial legislation. He needs to know that we will be talking about this for a long time in terms of public health, pension assets, California's clean energy economy, and the moral imperative to protect our children.

  • Boulder City Public Works: Avoid dangerous pesticides and herbicides in city landscaping
Many countries and even some American cities are banning the use of glyphosate-based chemicals used in landscaping, due to its link to an assortment of health concerns. Boulder City, NV, has the reputation of being "clean and green". As a longtime resident, parent, and teacher, I would urge the city to pursue alternative forms of pest and weed control.

  • Tell Netflix: All Employees Deserve Unlimited Parental Leave
Netflix's new unlimited parental leave policy is a bold proposal for working families -- but the online streaming giant is still earning a one-star rating from us. Why is that? Because Netflix won’t extend these benefits to workers in their lower-wage DVD division. That means Netflix is essentially creating two classes of employees — high-wage workers who can afford to take care of their families, and low-wage workers who aren’t worthy of these crucial benefits. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s just plain wrong.
