Genetically engineered foods, also known as GMOs, are popping up more and more, but because they're not labeled, we don't know where they are. Farmers, processors, packagers and distributors are already segregating and labeling GMOs for international sale in the 64 countries that require labeling. I believe we should be offered the same information in Illinois. Without labels for GMOs, we're not getting the full story on foods at my grocery store. Just as fat, calories, sodium, potential allergens like peanuts, and expiration dates appear on labels, so too should genetically engineered ingredients. The Illinois Senate introduced the Genetically Engineered Food Labeling Bill — SB734 — and we need to make sure there is a long list of supporting lawmakers. But just as quickly as we're securing support for labels, Monsanto is working to stack up opponents. That's why we need you to speak up. If enough Illinoisans make enough noise, our representatives will have to listen.

The private prison industry is a fast growing industry, with companies such as GEO group and Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) posting profits of 2.9 billion by the end of 2010. These profits are at the expense of people of color. Private prison corporations, such as GEO Group and CCA, also lobby hard for anti-immigrant legislation, such as seen in Arizona with SB 1070 and Georgia with SB 87. Private prisons are also responsible for neglect and abuse in prisons. Such legislation and examples of abuse and neglect directly contradict our moral consensus as people of faith and as tax payers of the United States of America. Jesus so identified with those in prison that he told his followers that to visit someone in prison is to visit him. The prophet, Amos, thundered against the people of God for dehumanizing the poor and vulnerable to the extent that they sold the poor for a pair of sandals. As people of faith, we are called to speak out against making profits from the mistreatment of the poor. We are called to care for the vulnerable in society and not profit from their marginalization. On the day after his triumphant entry into Jerusalem—Palm Sunday—Jesus disrupted the profiteering of the poor, by driving the money changers from one of the People's most sacred institutions. After careful review, the Chandler Unified School District governing board, and the parents of K-12 students resolved that the proposed gubernatorial budget, if enacted, continues to degrade the ability of Arizona school districts to provide an excellent education for all students. The proposed state budget will cut $6 million from Chandler Unified School district funding. This is in addition to the already enacted district cuts of over $36 million the past five years. At the same time, proposals to arbitrarily cut essential "outside the classroom" funding jeopardizes support functions required to maintain a safe, healthy and effective school environment. The Chandler Unified School District governing board also resolves that proposed measures, such as HB2303, constitute micro management by state government that removes local community control of school operations contrary to the wishes of local citizens. For example, over 94 percent of the 50,000+ parents in the district support the current school start schedule, which would be radically changed by HB2303 with no justification, producing significant disruption to parents and staff members. The Chandler Unified School District governing board, and the parents of K-12 students oppose the proposed budget legislation. We urge the Governor and the Arizona legislature to reconsider these proposals, which we strongly believe will be harmful to our education system, students, parents and district staff. We request that our schools be properly funded and we reject any measures that reduce local community control of our schools.

Every Rhode Island electrical consumer is affected by this. It's just needless waste that could very easilly be controlled and stopped. The artists of Westbeth are being harassed and forced out of their studios, many losing their livelihoods . No new artist applications are being accepted. Their art is being thrown into dumpsters. The low income tenants on Section 8 have had their rents tripled and the US government is paying the difference, although Westbeth legally is supposed to be low, affordable rents for artists. The hurricane Sandy is being used as an excuse to end Westbeth as affordable housing for artists, and a center for the arts. Artists live in fear for their homes and their art.

The governor is destroying our state. He needs to be stopped. He must be recalled.

Prostitution is a form of modern-day slavery. Every day over 15,000 women, men and children in Israel are exploited for sexual services against their will. They are victims of trafficking, fraud, debt manipulation, drug addiction, extreme emotion and physical violence, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. The average prostitute receives between 15 to 20 clients per day, creating approximately 1,000,000 sex transactions per month in Israel. No healthy, sane human being decides to work in prostitution out of free choice.

Equal Child Custody and Parenting time in Pennsylvania is currently considered "Normal" at just 30% for father's. Children need both parents in their lives and the U.S. Supreme Court agree's. Children and parents should not be used to generate cash for any county or state, nor used as leverage to harm another financially or emotionally. This disparity in child custody nearly cost me my life and has adversely affected my young children and thousands of other children and father's in Pennsylvania, including taxpayer's.
