Federal Communications Commission (FCC): Require Advertisers to Incorporate Recycling Recommendat...With all of the public knowledge about recycling, there are still people who do not recycle -- whether out of ignorance or apathy. If advertisers took the extra step in informing consumers (even in a small-text message at the bottom of their advertisements) about properly recycling their product and the importance of doing so, the United States could see a considerable change for the better in energy savings, greenhouse gas emissions, conservation of natural resources, and job creation.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephanie Casella

President Obama: It's time to ban oil trainsFayette County, West Virginia, is reeling from an oil train disaster today. Residents face flames shooting 300 feet in the air, and oil is spilling into the Kanawha River, the drinking water source for downstream communities.[1] From today's event to 2013's massive oil train explosion in North Dakota to the 47 people who lost their lives after an oil train explosion in Quebec, it is clear that oil trains put our communities at risk for death, injury, and destruction. Incredibly, first responders and local officials aren't usually informed that these unsafe trains are cruising through their communities carrying millions of gallons of explosive oil. These trains travel through major communities across the country, putting millions inside the evacuation zone of an accident like this. Our objective is clear: we need to get these dangerous oil trains out of our communities and out of Pennsylvania before they cause a catastrophic accident in the Keystone State. Gov. McCrory: Stop sending our money to your donorsThe Raleigh News & Observer reported on 2/15/2015 that Gov. Pat McCrory’s Dept. of Health and Human Services is extending a contract with Alvarez & Marsal for “performance improvement” of how the agency handles Medicaid finances. The contract with the Washington, DC consulting firm is now worth $8 million. It was signed a year ago without giving competitors a chance to bid on the work, and it keeps getting extended. The newspaper also reported, “Campaign finance reports show that the firm contributed $25,000 to the Republican Governors Association in April 2012 as Gov. Pat McCrory was running for office, and that the donation was used in the campaign to help elect him.” This is a textbook case of pay-to-play politics. Gov. McCrory promised to “clean up corruption in Raleigh” but ethical conflicts with Duke Energy and now this contract show that he needs to know people are watching what he does, not just what he says. Here’s the kicker: the contract is paying the company’s top executives $242 to $473 an hour! Please sign the petition to Gov. McCrory and forward it to others.1,547 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Bob Hall

Block use of U.S. ground combat forces in Iraq-SyriaCongress is considering an authorization for the use of military force against ISIS. Progressives like Senator Bernie Sanders [1] and the Congressional Progressive Caucus [2] are concerned that the restrictions on the use of U.S. ground troops for offensive combat operations in the Administration's AUMF proposal are too vague, and could enable a future President to introduce U.S. ground troops into offensive combat in Iraq or Syria. They are also concerned that unless the 2001 AUMF is addressed, restrictions on the use of ground troops in a new AUMF will be meaningless. Many Republican “hawks” oppose the President’s AUMF proposal because they don’t want any restrictions on the use of U.S. ground troops for combat at all. [3] The main legal authority that the Administration has relied on for military operations in Iraq and Syria right now is the 2001 Authorization for the use of military force. There’s no restriction in the 2001 AUMF on the use of U.S. ground troops for offensive combat. If the 2001 AUMF authorizes bombing Iraq and Syria, then a future U.S. president can easily claim it authorizes sending 100,000 U.S. troops to Iraq or Syria for offensive combat. If a future President believes that the situation has changed and the use of U.S. ground troops for combat has become justified, he or she can then ask Congress for that authority. Tell Congress not to hand a blank check to a future President to use U.S. ground troops for combat in Iraq or Syria by signing our petition. Renovate Clark PlaygroundI'm starting this petition because a park (Moore Park) not too far from where I live got renovated. In addition to that, they attached another building to the field house at that park which is almost complete. If that park can get a complete renovation, Clark Playground can, too. 13 years without a basketball tournament is a long time and I wanna break that streak. It's long overdue!111 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Raephel Young

Save our children from drugsI cannot find a drug rehabilitation place for my 17 year old. I have to wait until he is 18 and then he can make his own decision if he wants to go or leave the facility. One of three outcomes will happen: my son will either end up in jail and use taxpayers money or take more money from us by being on welfare, die where it will be the govt or states fault (big lawsuit) or grow out of it and be successful. One out of three chance. All of Long Island is affected by Xanax, marijuana, heroin, pills, etc. A psychiatrist told me to move off of Long Island. That is how bad the drugs are. We need to help our children before they can make their own decisions. We need help and soon.116 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Helene Krull

Anti-Clinton Progressives Seek Parley with Warren & SandersSens. Warren and Sanders have offered progressives about the only hope we have of being represented by the next U.S. president. However, with Sen. Warren supporting Hillary Clinton, a "perfect storm" is in place for them to play "useful idiots" for candidate Clinton to coopt their progressive rhetoric and betray it as president. Unless Clinton's oligarch donors are stupid, we all need to stop her candidacy dead in its tracks.185 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Patrick Walker

Tell Grapevine Animal Shelter to Allow Pit Bull AdoptionsThere are wonderful, easily adoptable dogs at risk of being euthanized at Grapevine Animal Shelter because the city is not allowing the public to adopt them. They are networked by volunteers, but the shelter does not allow you to work with the dogs in any way without training for almost four months with the police department. This limits many citizens' abilities to enter the shelter's program and assist. It's important to understand this affects our tax dollars, strains rescue resources greatly, and causes the deaths of dogs who would otherwise be beloved companions.
