  • Create a 24 Hour IATSE Safety Hotline for Film and Television Workers
Mr. Matt Loeb IATSE President We, the undersigned, request that the International Alliance Of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) create a 24 hour live operator safety hotline to be used by all members of the Motion Picture and Television Industries. The IATSE Hotline would be able to connect with locals in the vicinity of the incident so that quick contact could be made with production, and if possible, a set visit can ensue. This would greatly aid workers in our quest for safer working conditions. Presently there are safety hotlines for certain unions, certain stages, and certain production companies. Some have live operators, some answering machines, and some allow you to page a safety representative. But none of them is perfect and no one number covers all instances for every worker. Furthermore, when calling a production company or a stage or lot there is the potential for a conflict of interest in dealing with the issues that often arise. A National Safety Hotline, under the guiding hand of the IATSE, would change all of that and more importantly would serve to unite all of the Locals in creating an atmosphere of cooperation and priorities when it comes to keeping workers safe. A National Safety Hotline would level the playing field for all workers regardless of station or pay scale and would empower Union members to be vigilant and speak up. What is most important to us is for everyone we work with - our friends, our colleagues, our families - to return home to their own families safely at the end of every day. Our unions were created to protect us, but we realize that the IATSE can do that best only when our voices are heard. Help us to help you make our unions stronger and our workplaces safer. Respectfully, The Brothers and Sisters of IATSE. Be Safe. Be Heard. Speak Up.

  • FREE DJLEXO !!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!
On July 20th, 2009, my beautiful 6 year old grandson, Giovanni Kopystenski, was involved in a handgun accident in which he was fatally wounded. To compound the heartache, of what our family had lost and despite the fact that over less than a week's time of the accident, 3 police officers in Nevada and California suffered almost identical tragedies and lost their own children without any legal consequences; but Alexander Kopystenski, was subjected to a 12 to 20 year sentence for the incident. The Judge in his case, Judge Jesse Walsh, did not send him to prison but instead suspended a five year sentence and placed him on probation. Alex completed everything that probation required of him but he went above and beyond by becoming Nevada Chairman for AutismSpeaks, created Giovanni's Legacy Foundation, in honor of his son's life which is multi-functional in its endeavors ranging from organized events for the families of autistic children to working to receive NIH funding for John Hopkins University Research studies on Epigenetic Autism. On Wednesday, February 11th, 2015, Alex was scheduled to return to court before Judge Walsh with the expectation that he was going to be removed from probation and on his way to rebuilding his life into a new reality and would finally be able to grieve over the losses he had suffered but was, for over five years, unable to try to put to rest or at least try to figure out his new reality without his little boy. Judge Walsh was almost jovial when she looked at his progress report and said, "All right, Mr. Kopystenski, as usual you have done everything you were supposed to and then some.". Before she could go any further, the DA interrupted Judge Walsh to advise her that my son Lex had gotten into trouble on two separate incidents and wanted him remanded into jail. The Judge looked absolutely confused, as did we and after a few minutes, Judge Walsh decided to postpone the court date by one month for whatever is going to be the outcome of what was a confusing situation. Upon returning home we were called by the probation officer to instruct my son to come into their office by 2:30p.m., which is where enough became too much. Upon arrival Lex was called into the back area and within about ten minutes I was asked if my car could be searched. I gave the probation officer my car key and then another officer came out to ask me some questions. Unbeknownst to me, I was being detained with nonsense questions until I asked for my keys and my son. The officer then told me that the probation officer had left with Lex, going to my house to search the premises. While driving, which I am not supposed to do anymore, the officer called me and told me that my house keys were under the outside mat and that my son was being taken to jail. I was informed that when I gave them my car key, they removed my house key from my key ring, without my permission, which is "theft" and by the time I walked into my empty house I found that they had not just searched the house, they had destroyed and vandalized my son's quarters and had broken a number of very expensive pieces of furniture. They had found nothing and then I realized that they had entered my living space and taken my marijuana out of the back of my closet and charged my son with possession. I called and tried to explain that they needed to return what they considered "contraband" but I considered a prescribed medication that was important for the relief to my failing eyesight, my crippling arthritis and my fibromyalgia. When I advised them, as had my son that while in Nevada, medical marijuana is legal, I have a VA pharmacy card that is valid in all 50 states and if there are no commissaries or legalized medical pot, according to Federal law that was passed in 2010, I can go to any VA clinic to pick up what was necessary for me to bit suffer grin the pain behind my eyes and into my head, as well as the anxiety I suffered since these people began harassing my son for no reason. My son is also my legal caregiver, appointed by the VA and removing him without at least ten days notice was not only a violation of Federal Law, but was the intermediary between my ability to function, take my medicine, go to the doctors and to even climb a flight of stars etc . My son, also known as DJ Lexo, has not only served his time for whatever reason that those three police officers who were just deliberately careless, while he is without the son that made his Sun light up his life, but hasn't even had time to grieve because the local government decided that if losing the child that he loved more than I have ever known a man to love being Giovanni's Dad. Enough is enough. Free my son. Free DJ Lexo. If you care, please sign this petition and share it with all your friends and followers. My son, Alexander Kopystenski does not deserve what is being brought upon him and without him being here with me during my present medical situation, my own life expectancy is in jeopardy. It does not matter that Nevada Parole & Probation does not recognize Federal Law but it does matter that they illegally stole entry into my home, destroyed my home, stole my medication and then removed my legal fiduciary and full time caregiver for reasons known only to the six month educated criminal defense trade schoolers but they are being allowed to destroy what is left of my family, my son and I are basically at the mercy of these high school graduates regardless of the federal laws, the VA, the Eighth District Court and all the medical professionals. PLEASE SIGN, PLEASE SHARE AND PLEASE HELP.

  • Boycott Shell Oil Company
We support the efforts of the USW union to improve the wages and benefits as well as working conditions of the striking refinery workers. Jobs in refineries are dangerous and require a high level of skill. As we know from the BP disasters, mistakes can cause catastrophes for the surrounding communities and the environment. These workers deserve to be compensated well and treated fairly. Failure to bargain fairly in these negotiations will only reflect the Shell Oil Company's lack of regard for the workers and the communities in which their enterprises are located. We refuse to buy Shell products until the strike is settled.

  • Brownback and the KS Legislature: We know how to fix our economy
Brownback's tax cuts have backfired and our legislature is now scrambling to find a way to save the Kansas economy. Ending the prohibition of marijuana would increase state tax revenues and significantly decrease wasteful spending on marijuana enforcement, prosecution, and incarceration. (A $200 transaction can cost taxpayers and the government $100,000 for a three-year sentence.) Domestically grown marijuana is thought to be the second MOST PROFITABLE cash crop in the United States. Think about the kind of impact that could have on our economy! Look at the U.S. alcohol beverage industry. Ending prohibition on alcohol paid off nicely. In 2011, the industry generated $91 billion in wages and over 3.9 million jobs for U.S. workers. In reality, ending this prohibition would also increase the number of people moving into the state (or at least decrease the number of people we are losing to Colorado) and increase tourism leading to more outside spending with all Kansas businesses. This as a viable solution to our current economic nightmare. The rest of the country is headed this way, so it makes sense to take advantage of the enormous financial benefits of being a pioneer before the rest of the country catches up.

President Carter was about to introduce the Metric System and the country was geared up for it when the new President Reagan called it "un-American" and scuttled the change-over. It is high time our country abandons the present medieval and complicated system of measurements.

  • Send Kanye to the Penalty Box!
Professional athletes are suspended for unsportsmanlike conduct. How is it possible that Kanye has been allowed to treat other music professionals with such inconsiderate and disrespectful behaviors? Why aren't The Recording Academy Trustees suspending him from attending these prestigious award shows? If the appropriate organizations won't take action on their own, it reinforces this behavior as acceptable. It is NOT acceptable. There should be a consequence from the appropriate Grammy Organization and The Recording Academy, that this unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated! It's not a joke, it's a breakdown of social civility. This would not be tolerated in any other industry. Those making appearances on prime time television have a responsibility to the viewers supporting them, and this is our chance to say, we expect professionalism! Send " Kanye to the Penalty Box" means he ( and anyone else demonstrating unsportsmanlike behaviors ) should be suspended from these prestigious award shows until he (or others) contractually agrees to behave in a respectful and courteous manner. If such agreement is broken, they are fined a million dollars ( or other significant amount)...which, is then donated to a fund that promotes positive outcomes for our youth and society at large. In hockey, one sits in the penalty box 3 long minutes leaving their team vulnerable. The public viewers are left vulnerable to the societal impact of the inappropriate and disrespectful behaviors of those celebrities that have the freedom to behave (publicly) without adhering to an industry standard code of ethics. In other sports organizations, athletes ( and celebrity athletes) can be ejected and fined by officials. Who is protecting the public from the disrespectful and unsportsmanlike conduct aired on TV? It's time to create a code of conduct and hold musicians ( and celebrities) to a higher standard! A standard code of conduct should be signed by all with access to being aired publicly and in such contract, a Penalty Box Component, will be standard and include a significant financial penalty and suspension, whereby such proceeds will be used for the greater good. Sign if you agree Kanye ( and others) should be sent to the Penalty Box for unsportsmanlike conduct on TV!

  • Run Warren Run Austin TX
As Texas MoveOn members we have worked tirelessly to get the money out of politics, to empower the powerless and equalize the playing field for all Americans over the past ten years. Senator Warren speaks boldly about the values that could re-create our democracy in the image we long for. Her dedication to challenging the banks and Wall Street, lowering interest rate on college loans, establishing not just a minimum wage but a living wage, protecting our environment from the reckless fossil fuel industry and calling out both Republicans and Democrats alike when they vote with the lobbyists and against our best interests as Americans makes her one of the most progressive candidate we could elect as President in the 21st Century. But first we need to draft her to run. Sign this petition calling on Senator Warren to run for President in 2016.
