• Gun Control
In the Newtown shooting Adam Lanza, a mentally unstable 20 year old, killed 20 1st grade students and 6 women with an assault rifle which his mother bought. If we as a nation tighten gun laws, lives could be saved. A two minute background check could have saved those lives. Aren't those lives worth those two minutes? I am hoping that congress will consider the following options: Fingerprint technology to unlock guns. Limits on assault weapons. Limit the number of bullets (rounds) in a clip to 10. 24 hour waiting period to buy a gun. Place limits on the ability of the mentally ill to purchase guns. Please consider signing my petition.

  • Douglas County, Kansas should secede from the State of Kansas and be named Freestate
The individual freedoms , quality of life , and financial stability are being irreparably damaged by incompetent leadership and corrupted politics. The residents of Douglas County being a tolerant, educated , and progressive population should not have to live under this nonsense.

The Principal is only a symptom of the bigger problem. The Board of Education and The Superintendents continue to employ, protect and allow Kimberly Taylor Around Children. BOCES LEADERSHIP IS BROKEN. REPLACE THE DECISION MAKERS!!!!! Because a week suspension is noRecent Petition Entries: 911. Max McDonald from Nyack, NY signed this petition on Feb 14, 2015. Do not stop the petition. BOCES IS COVERING UP AGAIN. Kim Taylor was removed from hilltop. But just moved to building 10. Another school in the boces program. She is still around children 910. Martin J. Coleman from Woodbury, NY signed this petition on Feb 14, 2015. I am a civil rights attorney for people with disabilities. Most of my cases are brought5 under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Given her language used by Ms. Taylor, as quoted on the internet, any case ever brought against BOCES under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act of 1973 or IDEA will be more difficult to defend if Ms. Taylor is not severed from employment with BOCES. Please terminate her from her position. Thank you. Martin J. Colemant a fitting response to a person who subjects children to degradation, abuse, embarrassment, fear and administrators needs to be held accountable for those they employ. There is not enough accountability or pressure on school administrators to remove abusive educators. Children in schools are too often victims and abused by the educators entrusted to educate, support and protect them. There needs to be better screening processes for those put into these positions and an ongoing checks and balances to ensure our students continue to be in the care of responsible, reasonable and caring professionals.

  • Mayor Wharton: Improve Don't Remove Foote Homes
Memphis is one of the poorest cities in the U.S. There is a desperate shortage of quality affordable housing in our community. Foote Homes offers more than 400 of our poorest families a decent place to live and work in the heart of the city. It was also the site of many of our community's most important Civil Rights activities - a place where Benjamin Hooks, Mavis Staples, and Rufus Thomas and their families lived.

  • Expand Social Security
Right now in Washington, there is a coordinated attack on Social Security. Congressional Republicans and their Wall Street cronies are attempting to divide the American people through phony, manufactured crises. The truth of the matter is that Social Security has a $2.8 trillion surplus. If no changes are made, it can pay out every benefit owed to every eligible American for the next 18 years and around 80% of benefits owed after that. And if millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share, we can not only extend the life of the Social Security trust fund, but we can expand benefits for every American. Social Security is more than America’s retirement program—it provides an economic bedrock, protecting the disabled, survivors and veterans. Expanding Social Security is simple: it means making our Social Security system work even better by ensuring that benefits are able to meet the costs that seniors and people with disabilities face every day. It means a stronger Social Security Administration that can ensure that people can access the benefits they earn throughout their working lives. What we should not be doing is considering cuts such as the disastrous Chained CPI, or the new Republican plan to cut Social Security for 11 million Americans living with disabilities including 3 million children. Stand with Social Security Works and MoveOn.org in demanding that Congressional Republicans drop their phony crisis and stop threatening the earned benefits of millions of Americans. Demand that they listen to the American people and expand, not cut Social Security!

  • Support a Fracking Ban in Florida!
In states all across the country, fracking for oil and gas has led to water contamination, air pollution, and serious public health impacts. What's more, fracking also contributes to climate change. Simply stated, fracking is too dangerous to be part of our energy plan. Please protect the people and environment of Florida by supporting a statewide ban on fracking.

  • Tell Maryland Legislators: Fracking Moratorium Now!
With Maryland’s new governor, Larry Hogan, saying he supports moving forward with fracking for gas in our state -- and with mounting evidence of the threat to our health -- we don’t have a moment to lose. Ask your state legislators to protect Maryland residents by passing a long-term moratorium on fracking! The Protect Our Health and Communities Act (HB 449/SB 409), recently introduced in the Maryland General Assembly with over 45 co-sponsors, would put a hold on drilling in Maryland. The bill would provide time for long-term health studies on fracking to be conducted, so that we fully understand the risks before deciding to subject Maryland residents to a public health experiment. Call on your legislators to act in 2015 -- before the gas industry is allowed to rush in and cause potentially irreversible harm to our air, water, soil and health.

  • Stand with Providence's bus monitors.
Providence's bus monitors work hard to keep our kids safe every school day. But Mayor Elorza is considering replacing these dedicated professionals with outsourced, underpaid workers who may lack the experience, commitment, and training required to properly prioritize the lives of our students. The average Providence bus monitor earns less than $12.50/hour, yet their work is invaluable: Their jobs were created after the tragic accidental death of a student in 1985. There had been at least one fatal student death each year from 1979 until monitors were mandated -- and since then there hasn't been a single one while a monitor was on duty. Bus monitors are from the community and depend on this job to maintain their homes, afford health care, and send their children to school. We need to tell Mayor Elorza that he needs to do right by working families and Providence's children -- just like he promised in his campaign. Sign the petition telling him not to privatize Providence's bus monitors.

People should be concerned when any member of congress attempts to manipulate the delicate balance of US foreign relations to further a personal agenda. Doing so in complete disregard for the impairment it may cause to the US government's ability to conduct foreign policy is reprehensible.
