Remember the glowing promises President Clinton made to sell NAFTA. Just the opposite has come to pass. “Fast-tracked international trade deals have led to exploding U.S. trade deficits, soaring food imports into the U.S., increased off-shoring of American jobs, and an unprecedented rise in income inequality”, according to a compilation and analysis of 20 years of trade and economic data released January 15 2015 by the watchdog group Public Citizen. and, 2) These treaties create international tribunals, composed of corporate attorneys, that allow corporations to challenge and override domestic laws or regulations of the signatory nation that might adversely impact the corporation's “expected future profits”. This process would undermine our sovereignty and subvert democratically passed laws, including those dealing with labor (wages, benefits, and collective bargaining), health (food safety, for example), and the environment (creating immense pressure for all signatory nations to adopt the least restrictive environmental standards). These treaties would greatly accelerate a global race to the bottom, where the taxpayers of a nation-state might be required to reimburse a global corporation (for its supposed loss of “expected future profits”?!?) No one has asked the President to explain the treaties from the workers’ perspective. At the macroeconomic level, he can “sell’ these treaties like Clinton sold NAFTA and demand fast track treatment. As citizens, our voice is not being heard. In our country, we have the right to expect that our President will address our concerns, especially when many of us press that expectation on him.

This case is an example of the ongoing and rampant abuse of the public realm by the billboard industry. Everyone deserves a good night's sleep, even if billboard companies feel otherwise.

I think all men should be allowed to have a beard while in the military as long as it kept trimmed. If you allow it for religious reasons, it should be allowed for everyone, no matter their religion.

We are showing a united front against the possibility of the Charter School coming to SD 170 and impacting our District's future. Allowing LEARN Charter School to come into SD 170 is not in the best interest of our students and staff. LEARN wants to take over our students by September 2015.......KEEP THEM OUT OF OUR STUDENTS' EDUCATION!

This is why President Obama’s plan is so important. Every American, regardless of circumstance of birth, should be able to access the life skills and tools provided by a college degree. Tell Congress that you support President Obama's proposal to make community college free, because it brings us one step closer to making the American Dream a reality for all!

The Sampson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to let Sanderson Farms know, by letter, that they are interested in having a high-volume chicken processing plant built in Sampson County. The recruitment of Sanderson Farms should be stopped. Two other counties in this state have already voiced their opinion; and they do not want Sanderson Farms. We should not want them either.

Republican Rep. Steve Scalise recently admitted to speaking at a white supremacist conference in Louisiana. Turns out it's just the most recent example in a longer string of dog-whistles and pandering to an electorate that repeatedly voted for former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke. Despite this shocking revelation, Scalise — who once described himself as "David Duke without the baggage" — was easily elected by his fellow Republicans to become House Majority Whip. This makes him the third most powerful Republican in the House of Representatives. No one with a history of keeping company with white supremacists should hold such an influential position. Yet Walmart contributed $8,500 to Scalise between 2012 and 2014, making them one of the largest supporters of his efforts to build power and influence in the House. Join us in telling Walmart to decide whose side they're on -- the bigots, and those who pander to them, or the rest of us. Ask them to pledge not to donate any more money to Steve Scalise, or any politician who panders to white supremacists.
