• Nominate Amelia Boynton Robinson for a Presidential Medal of Freedom
Please join the National Nominating Committee in supporting Mrs. Amelia Boynton Robinson for a 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Help us to encourage President Barack Obama to accept this moment in history and select her for this esteemed Award. On March 7, 1965, Amelia Boynton was beaten, knocked unconscious and left to die on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama in what has become known as “Bloody Sunday.” At 103, she is still a champion for freedom, justice and equality. Born on August 18, 1911, one of ten children of George and Anna Hicks Platts in Savannah, Georgia, young Amelia, at age 10, began her life-long quest for voting rights as a vehicle to equality. She assisted her mother in going door-to-door by horse and buggy in 1921 to encourage Blacks to vote. After graduating from Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in 1927, she began a career with the United States Department of Agriculture in 1929. Later, she became reacquainted with fellow Tuskegee graduate, S.W. Boynton, whom she subsequently married. Together, they began helping to lay the groundwork in the 1930’s for the now famous Selma-to-Montgomery March, of which “Bloody Sunday” was a part, and which ultimately led to the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. A part of Amelia’s role in the movement is immortalized in the recent Oscar-nominated movie “Selma,” where she is portrayed by Lorraine Toussaint. Because of the pivotal work that she performed in securing the right to vote for Blacks in the United States, our nominee, a resident of Tuskegee, Alabama since 1976, is known as the “Matriarch of the Voting Rights Movement.” Please sign this petition and join our Committee in nominating Mrs. Amelia Boynton Robinson, and in urging President Barack Obama to name her as a recipient for a 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Thank you for your support. National Nominating Committee Post Office Box 941 Tuskegee Institute, Alabama 36087 Dr. Elaine C. Harrington, Chair Atty. Lateefah Muhammad, Co-Chair

  • Change the Voting Process
I am a teacher at an elementary school that serves as a voting site. I see voters throughout each voting day. Two things are consistently true about the voters; there aren't very many of them, and they are typically older, retired people who have time to vote. Even though voting may be important to younger and middle-aged people, having to go to a voting site can be difficult or impossible for the millions of people who have busy families and who work long hours to make ends meet. In this day and age, on-line voting is extremely important in order for there to be fair elections. It is time to change our 200-year old voting process.

Analog drugs are currently LEGAL in 49 states, ILLEGAL in Florida & 5 European countries. They are ILLEGAL federally, but most local LEOS & District Attorney Offices have no idea how to follow through with arrest or prosecution of analog offenders. Analogs KILL~ most importantly because there are no 12 panel tox screens for them, so when a patient presents to the ER after an OD~there is no way to test for the analog drug, wasting precious time in helping these patients. MY son Zach~FOREVER 20 DIED Aug. 08, 2014 from MXE given to him by friends.

  • People of Earth- Stand Up and Demand Your 10 Basic, Universal, Economic and Environmental Rights!
According to the scientific community, we do not have much time left to sort out our environmental practices, so that the earth can support the life that is currently here. However, if we act NOW, we can prevent the extinction of approximately 200 species a day, tens of thousands of human deaths everyday from poverty, lift people out of crippling poverty in richer countries, as well as in 'developing nations', and ensure that our earth can support the life that is on it. We, as humanity on this earth, claim these ten basic, universal birthrights for everyone who so chooses: The right to: *sustainable, nutritious food *sustainable clean water *sanitation *sustainable shelter *sustainable clothing *healthcare *education *access to sustainable transportation *sustainable energy *an earth that can support the life on it- meaning, in addition to sustainable energy, that no more unnecessary consumer goods are produced that are not environmentally sustainable- recyclable, etc. That's 10 basic universal rights. If humanity could come together and agree upon those rights, and then agree on effective action that we can take in order to ensure those rights (ideally starting with a peaceful, international day of public protest), it would be revolutionary. It would change our world for the better so incredibly drastically- we would have economic rights, which would probably be delivered through a universal basic income (that's how we would provide for the basic rights that I outlined), and we would have a healthy earth with sane environmental laws.

  • Free Mohamadou Ould Slahi and Close Guantanamo
As an American reading "Guantanamo Diary," I was sickened by the accounts of US-inflicted torture on Slahi and his fellow prisoners. I asked myself: "Why is he still there?' and "Why is Guantanamo still there, shaming us all?"

  • Expanding infrastructure - a jobs creator
I remember when the I-35 bridge in Minnesota collapsed, killing 13 people. Minnesota is my state of origin, and I had driven over this bridge a number of times. Our country used to be #1 in infrastructure - no longer. If we put our federal dollars toward new infrastructure, it will prevent future tragedies, and also create many new jobs.

  • Avila Beach Aquarium: Release Great Pacific Octopus
Two Giant Pacific Octopi were removed from a fisherman's prawn trap and stuck into a fish tank at a small aquarium with close ties to Morro Bay Aquarium and Diablo Nuclear Power Plant. It is wrong for Pacific Gas & Electric or the Central Coast Aquarium to exploit these Octopi for public relations. Please release them back into Morro Bay where they came from, start by designating an official release date as you promised us you would almost two years ago!

  • Keep Illinois Taxpayers Working: Fund Illinois Child Care
Without continued funding of the child care assistance program, families will be unable to work, or if they continue to work, will have to depend on inconsistent arrangements or children may be left home alone. In addition, late payments are making it even more difficult for child care providers to make ends meet, pay staff and overhead costs, forcing them to possibly close their doors. FAMILIES NEED CHILD CARE TO WORK. THEY NEED AND WANT TO WORK TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES. AS A REGION, CHILD CARE IS ESSENTIAL TO OUR CONTINUED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!

  • Florida bill wants to criminalize transgender people using restrooms that correspond with their g...
Discrimination of anyone is wrong. Transgender people using single-sex public facilities (including restrooms in public, workplaces, and schools) that correspond with their gender identity should not be criminalized. Guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine for using a restroom. The bill would also empower people in a single-sex restroom during any “unlawful entry” to sue the alleged interloper and owner of the facility for attorneys fees and damages. Discrimination is wrong. Let's stop this bill.
