  • MAKE HISTORY! HELP ILLINOIS RATIFY THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT
Every constitution written since the end of WWII includes a provision that men and women are equal citizens. The U.S. Constitution has no such provision. Attempts over more than 200 years have been unsuccessful. Equality is long overdue - in the workplace and in institutions throughout our society. This is a civil rights issue. Pass the ERA for your own sake, for your mothers, your wives, your daughters, your sisters! Help us make Illinois the 36th state to ratify the ERA. Tell the Illinois House of Representatives to vote "YES" now, during veto session.

  • Mandate that Institutions of Higher Education Make Parents and Students Aware of HIPAA and FERPA ...
My son took his own life at his college in 2009 just two weeks after making a suicide attempt on that same campus. The written material given to us by his institution said they would call parents in an emergency. They did not. We want to save lives and prevent other parents from experiencing the pain and anguish of losing a child. We believe making parents aware that they will not automatically be called in an emergency can lead to an open discussion with their adult children before they go off to college regarding the best course of action to take in the case of an emergency.

  • TAKE ACTION NOW TO PROTECT CENTRAL AMERICAN AND MEXICAN CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
As people of conscience, we commend you for the anticipated Administrative Action you are taking to address our broken immigration system and the temporary relief it will provide to thousands of immigrant families. It is a long overdue first step toward recognizing the humanity and inalienable human rights of our immigrant sisters and brothers. At the same time, we are compelled by our conscience to insist that you include the thousands of still arriving Central American and Mexican children and their families fleeing violence and seeking reunification with their loved ones. We appeal to you to use your executive authority to grant them refugee status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or deferred action status per the recommendation of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) [1] and Pope Francis who declared these children must be “welcomed and protected.” [2] At this moment, thousands of mothers, fathers and children, many of whom are fleeing extreme violence, death threats, rape, and persecution in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras are being held in US detention centers. The President must take action to release them and grant them immediate protection. We remain one executive order away from protecting children. Our hearts go out to the more than 60,000 children who have come to this country seeking protection, but who now face immediate deportation back to unspeakable violence in home countries, and away from family members already here in the US. How many child refugees must die after being deported, before the President takes action? We will not allow these child refugees to be sent back or taken away from families already here. If our government will not protect children, we, people of conscience, will. [1] Testimony of United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) Senior Protection Officer, Leslie Velez, before the United States Congressional House Judiciary Committee , June 25, 2014 [2] Statement by Pope Francis, July 15 2014: “This humanitarian emergency requires, as a first urgent measure, these children be welcomed and protected." And that these measures “must be accompanied by policies that inform people about the dangers of such a journey and, above all, that promote development in their countries of origin.”

  • Bring Back Grand Parents Rights
There are some children that are brought up in homes with Drug users and broken families. In this day and time you have to hurt a child or abuse a child to get something done by the laws in Kentucky. I have seen with my own eyes, that when a new born baby is born and they have drugs in there system, the state will walk in and make a prevention plan and send the child home to the drug invested home. The Social workers will go back in thirty days and re-test the parents and (yes) they will have passed a drug test, by cheating the system or whatever and then the social workers will walk away, not protecting the child and not knowing if the child is being feed or bathed or brought up in a good safe home, while the parents are using again. This law system is something else. We as Grandparents need to protect Children from harm and danger and that is why I am starting this Petition. The love that I have for my Granddaughter is a never lasting love that breaks my heart since she has been taken away from me after raising her for 16 long months. When I know that the parents that she is with are both on drugs and they have no home and have no jobs, this is not a good or safe environment for children. We as Grandparents need to stand up and protect our grandchildren when the parents cannot or will not. Drugs is taken over the world and no one will stand up and help do anything to stop it. Please sign this and pass it along.

  • President Obama: Veto the Keystone XL Pipeline
The Keystone XL Pipeline would accelerate climate change and put the environment at risk, but Republican Congressional leaders are pledging to send legislation approving the project to the President’s desk in the next Congress. We need to stand together and stop it before we’re too late. Climate change is already harming the farms, forests and other natural resources our economy depends on, and this project will only make climate change worse. The Keystone XL Pipeline will take the dirtiest fuel source in the world – tar sands oil from Canada – across America to the Gulf Coast. We need to be burning less carbon, and keeping the dirtiest forms of carbon in the ground but this project is wrong on both counts. Not only that, but it won’t do anything to reduce oil prices in America – the Keystone XL is about shipping oil from Canada to China, through a pipeline that puts our land and water at risk. That’s a tradeoff that isn’t good for anyone, and it’s why were calling on the President commit to veto any harmful legislation that would approve Keystone XL. We need your voice. Sign the petition!
