Wisconsin: Tell the EPA to ban bee-killing pesticidesEurope has already fought back against powerful chemical companies and took a big step to protect bees by putting into effect a ban of the top bee-killing “neonic” pesticides. Now it’s our turn! Join Friends of the Earth and our allies in demanding that the EPA take immediate action to protect bees! Bees are critical in producing the majority of our food crops and the evidence is mounting that Bayer and Syngenta’s pesticides are a key contributor to mass bee die-offs. However, the EPA continues to ignore scientists -- even those employed by the EPA -- and has delayed action until 2018. But the bees can’t wait -- and neither can we! U.S. beekeepers have been consistently losing 40-100 percent of their hives. This winter, beekeepers are likely facing yet another season of historic bee die offs. We can’t let the EPA wait another four years to address this crisis. Please take action today and tell the EPA to ban bee-killing pesticides.354 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Peter Stocker

PATH train: Pregnant women need a seatAs an advocate for pregnant women I'm seeing this situation get worse over the years, as the riding population increases. Disabled persons, pregnant women and those with small children are not given priority seating. It's a simple fix: Awareness.374 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Jayne Freeman

We the people want GMO labeling on our foodI believe GMO food is extremely dangerous for human consumption. I do not want any of the people I love eating GMO food without knowing that it is GMO. I think is only fair to give us the people the tools to make Informed decisions by requiring labeling.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ron Morgan

Beer and wine sales for Mythos RestaurantOur restaurant's location, 2030 W. Montrose, Chicago located 1 block west of Damen Ave., has been listed in a "no alcohol" moratorium since BEFORE the prohibition, making this ruling antiquated. It would behoove the State of Illinois and the city of Chicago to lift this ban and allow for a beer and wine license. Our hours of operation are after 5:00pm. We are currently a BYOB restaurant, which offers no return revenue for the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago or our small establishment. We have been in business since 2007241 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Toni Di Meola

Say no to a convicted sex offender playing football. He is part of a rape and is labeled a sexual offender. Ma’Lik Richmond, a teenage football player who was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in March 2013, is reportedly now back on the roster of his Ohio high school’s football team. Richmond was sentenced to one year in a juvenile facility for the crime, though his sentence also depended on rehabilitation and his behavior, according to The Wire. He was released in January this year from an Ohio detention center. Richmond must register as a sex offender every 180 days for 20 years as part of his sentence. Another teenager, Trent Mays, was also convicted in the rape case, and must register as a sex offender, according to wtrf.com.2,322 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Diana

Villa Serena Apartments, Continue to Accept my Section 8Please accept my reasonable accommodation due to my disability, in order for my family to remain in what's been our home for 5 years, to avoid homelessness. Landlords, who are evicting tenants due to not wanting to participate in the program anymore are making families like mine at high risk of homelessness in this county altogether. The other landlords in the county aren't wanting to accept the program either and the rents out there have skyrocketed, leaving no options for families like mine to keep a roof over our heads. I started this petition because my family was given a 90-day notice, to move on June 30, 2014, due to having a Section 8 voucher, that they no longer want to accept. Since that time and due to the housing crisis occurring in the Bay Area, we have a high liklihood of becoming homeless if our current landlord won't continue to accept my voucher. My adult daughter and I are trying very hard to further our education through our community college in order to obtain careers so we can stand on our own feet and not have to continue on the Section 8 program. However, if we are forced into homelessness, this will put us at a great disadvantage of completing our goals. I also have a 17 month old granddaughter living with me who doesn't deserve to spend her first years of life homeless due to a landlord who just wants to rid of families for their way of paying their rent. My landlord is not forcing out other families who pay less than new move-ins and increasing their rents little by little and I don't understand why they can't do the same for my family. 12 families here out of the over 100 townhouse/apartments, have been asked to leave for the same reason but I don't know if any of them are disabled like me. With no tenant protections in San Mateo, asking for a reasonable accommodation is the only way to get help and so far my landlord has denied my request. Please help my family keep a roof over our heads and I hope the best for the other families as well.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Doreen Joiner

Mayor De Blasio: Rewrite Rent Control Laws in NYCNew York City has been home to a business sector that is unique due to its lack of corporate chains, and a diverse population that can always somehow find a way to make it in NYC. All of that has changed over the last decade, as commercial property owners have been allowed to raise rents beyond a level that small businesses can afford, and renters are pushed out of their homes and communities to make way for wealthy tenants. Rent control laws must be rewritten to account for inflation and higher costs of living, so that New York can keep its diversity and integrity intact.64 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Julie

CA SENATE: Provide paid sick days to every CA worker to ensure healthy workplaces and healthy wor...Roughly 33% of California’s workforce, nearly 6 million California workers, cannot take an hour off of work to care for themselves or a loved one who is sick without putting their pay or job in jeopardy. Workers without paid sick days must either work while sick or forego wages -- losing three days of pay can equate to a whole month’s worth grocery bill for a low-income family. Public health is very much at risk when we force people to work while sick and expose customers, co-workers, and others to often very contagious illnesses. Additionally, the Institute for Women’s Policy Research shows that 1.3 million emergency room visits could be avoided if the patients had access to paid sick leave, giving them time to visit a doctor when they were sick. Research shows that sick workers are roughly half as productive as healthy workers—a disparity that dwarfs the cost of three sick days per year. More than $160 billion is lost annually in our national economy because of low productivity when workers show up to work sick. Nearly 23 percent of adults in the US report that they have lost a job or have been threatened with being fired for taking time off due to illness or to care for a sick family member. In the recently released “Shriver Report,” more than 90 percent of single women said paid sick day reform was the most important policy that their employer could adopt to improve their lives. Connecticut is currently the only state with a statewide law on sick days. The Center for Economic and Policy Research found 3 out of 4 employers in Connecticut said the law had a positive impact on business. Fifteen percent of employers said productivity increased and 30 percent said it resulted in increased morale. AB 1522 creates a new workplace standard similar to minimum wage or the 8-hour workday. AB 1522 allows workers to seek redress for being cheated out of the sick days they earn.3,697 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Eddie Kurtz, Courage Campaign Institute

It's Time for Transportation Forecasts that Get it RightIf an investment banker made the wrong call on 61 stocks in a row, their clients would take their money somewhere else. But that’s exactly what the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has done when it comes to forecasting how much Americans drive. They've overestimated driving levels for 61 consecutive forecasts, causing billions of dollars to be wasted on unneeded new highways, and causing lagging investment in transit and maintenance. In reality, Americans have cut back on driving for nine years in a row. And as the DOT updates their next forecast, we need them to get it right. In the 61 forecasts released by the DOT since 1999, actual driving totals have been far below forecasts every single time. This year’s forecast was bizarrely even wrong about the past, projecting that Americans drove five percent more in 2012 than they actually did. Our spending of transportation tax dollars should match how we actually get around -- and right now, that means new rail and bus routes, improved paths for bicycles and pedestrians, and maintaining and repairing our existing roads and bridges. Alternative kinds of travel are growing increasingly popular, especially among the Millennials -- who will be the chief users of our future transportation system. Part of the problem is that state governments make bad forecasts, too, and when the feds aggregate them together, it’s a case of garbage in, garbage out. Nevertheless, it’s time for the DOT to start making good forecasts, instead of just relying on state projections stuck on cruise control in the past. That way, we can get the investments in 21st century transportation that we need.23 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Andre Delattre
