  • NO MORE NUKES!
History has shown that the potential exists for unplanned "incidents" to occur at or within Nuclear Power Plants. Fukushima, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl are just 3 examples of when the best intentions can go wrong. The results of such an unplanned "incident" can be catastrophic and long lasting. Given the proximity of Turkey Point to the major population centers of South Florida, it's close location to the unique and environmentally sensitive Everglades and it's coastal location potentially exposing it to the effects of rising sea levels, The Turkey Point Nuclear Power plant exposes the population and natural environment of South Florida to unintended, but nevertheless, extraordinary risk. Given the advent of viable and relatively benign alternative power generating technologies, I do not believe the benefits of Nuclear Power any longer outweigh the risks to the people and environment of South Florida. I respectfully request Florida Power and Light immediately withdraw its application to the NRC for these two new Nuclear Power Plants at Turkey Point and the associated High Voltage electrical distribution network planned to traverse South Florida. Please sign this Petition.

  • Save America Information Technology Worker Jobs
Computer programming skills requires a high degree of intelligence and a college education. US citizens become IT specialists because they like to create technology and utilize its wonders. IT specialists also expect to make a decent living, an above average living for their knowledge and expertise. Instead corporate america in cooperation with the congress, mostly republicans - democrats included, Obama especially, are in favor of this constant influx of H1-B workers and an incredible amount of loop holes. The level of this influx is staggering. American workers are told to train their replacements, then lose there job to a non-US citizen. The results are devastating to American workers, and NOBODY is standing for them - jobs destroyed, more IT workers lives ruined. This is a petition to eliminate loopholes in the H1B program and levy higher taxes on employers who hire people with H1B status. The on going H1B program has resulted in a downward trend for information technology professionals. Low salaried H1B staff has destroyed the IT profession and companies all over the country are replacing their existing workforce with H1B candidates. People have been forced to train their replacements, accept significantly lower salaries, and no longer be given respect within the work place. An insider-outsider culture is now prevalent. Give Americans back their IT careers and stop giving preference for H1B candidates. I cannot think of any other country in the world that treats its own citizens in such a terrible way.

  • United Airlines: Respect New Jersey, Do Your Part to Provide Good Jobs at Newark Airport
As one of the largest employers in New Jersey and the largest carrier at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), United can improve the lives of thousands of New Jersey-based airport workers. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) recently established minimum wage and benefit standards for subcontracted airport workers, including 4,000 EWR workers, and set a timetable for a more comprehensive policy package that ensures living wages and benefits, including health benefits. American Airlines and Delta agreed to honor the wage increases, but United Airlines and its subcontractors have not, leaving thousands of New Jersey airport workers in poverty. Newark is United's second largest hub in the world and subcontracted workers that make it possible for things to run smoothly there deserve better.

  • Governor Snyder and Kevyn Orr: Stop the drinking water and sewerage shut-offs in Detroit!
What would you do if you couldn't flush the toilet? Or if you had to buy bottled water to cook, clean and stay hydrated? The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) is shutting off water at thousands of Detroit residences each week even if their account debt was incurred by previous owners. Meanwhile, corporate accounts, with tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid water bills, remain unpaid yet are still being served. And Detroit's emergency manager, Kevyn Orr, has begun the process to privatize DWSD, the drinking water supply for roughly 4 million people in southeast Michigan. Privatizing the system could lead to higher rates and poorer service. In order for water to remain safe and affordable for all, we need to maintain public control of our water system and to enact a water affordability plan that keeps families connected to this critical resource.

  • Get Veterans Care Now using Existing Medicare System
I am a veteran and the last hospital and doctor I want to go to is a veterans hospital and doctor. Would you want to? Why should veterans be forced to go to obsolete hospitals? Why shouldn't they have a right to choose? Why would we make our veterans wait months to be diagnosed or treated? You wouldn't tolerate it. It's not right and it's not what was intended when the Veterans Hospitals were established. The veterans were supposed to get the best doctors and hospitals, not the worst. This idea of using a well-established, proven system makes common sense and it is ready to roll NOW. No years of development. No kinks to work out. Let's get it done now ...not 5 years from now!

  • STAND UP AGAINST FRACKING IN MARYLAND
Maryland is defined by its incredible scenic beauty and awesome natural heritage, from the Bay to our beautiful family farms, forests, and historic communities. But our treasured places and families are threatened by shale gas drilling (“fracking”), a destructive and dangerous practice that we must keep out of Maryland. Fracking next door in Pennsylvania has left a trail of ravaged forests, polluted streams, sickened families, and contaminated water supplies in its wake. And now big oil and gas companies like Halliburton and Exxonmobil are pressing to force Maryland to let them do the same thing here.

  • Petition to Governor Christie to call for a MORATORIUM on the Implementation of the One Newark Pu...
Superintendent of Newark Public Schools has created a large scale plan without meaningful and credible engagement of the Newark community. Cami Anderson has lost the support of Newark residents including parents, students, the Newark Municipal Council, the Board of Education, Newark's mayor-elect, community organizations and 77 concerned Ministers and clergy. Poor planning, scandalous fiscal mis-management ($15,000-$60,000 or 80% salary increases to Cami's inner circle) and the destruction of community schools, demand that the One Newark Plan be halted.

  • Keep swan river fishing access open to public.
Just recently the swan river fishing access popular to many floaters was closed due to complaints from nearby residents about parking, traffic, garbage, noise, etc. the lake county commissioner has closed it down and posted no trespassing signs. Although I do sympathize with the residents, this is a public spot. Instead of trying to sweep the problem under the rug, I'm asking the commissioner to address the problem head on and put in much needed additional parking. There is another petition going around to keep it closed. Last count they had 58 signatures. They are going for 100. My goal is 1000. My guess is this number will be reached very fast. What are you? A snowbird or a local. Please forward this to anyone you know that has enjoyed the luxury of this amazing place!
