Like many people during the Great Recession, I started up a small handmade business and followed the advice to get a Facebook Business Page for online marketing . It was free. And the best way to let people know about my new business offerings. But in the last year Facebook changed the rules. Now my posts are not seen by the people who Like my Page unless I pay to "boost" a post at a minimum of $5 per boost. Having followed the advice to post at least 10 times a week, that means using this service will now cost me at least $2600/year and that's not counting what I have to pay to get more Likes! I don't mind the idea of paying for a service but this is too much of a leap!

Many individuals illegally own chickens - that is, those who house chickens on less than 3 acres of land. To protect these individuals from chicken confiscation, and legally enable them to enjoy the plentiful benefits that accompany chicken ownership, a new ordinance to legalize chicken ownership needs to be established.

My brother Sgt. John Ruble has been active duty for over ten years and spent time in Afghanistan and South Korea. He now suffers from extreme PTSD and Anxiety, and is not getting the treatment he needs from the US Army Warrior Transitional Battalion. The lack of precedent for the alarming rate of incarceration in our nation needs change. We seek to bring freedom to thousands of our men and women, mothers and fathers. Marijuana scheduling is too severe and legislation is past due, as the President commented "marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol". There doesn't seem to be a case for criminalizing the substance based on safety, economics, or morality. Therefore, the prisoners should be freed!

Gov. Corbett just lifted a three-year moratorium on leasing of state forests and parks for gas drilling. We know more drilling means more blowouts, more spills of toxic fracking wastewater, and more ruined landscapes. And, outrageously, the governor’s order will allow drilling under our state parks for the first time. The Legislature is the last line of defense for our state parks and forests. Already more than 700,000 acres of our state forests have been leased for gas drilling. That’s more than 40 percent of our existing state forestlands. But the drillers want more--and sadly, Gov. Corbett is happy to hand it to them. Tell your state representative and state senator to fight Gov. Corbett’s effort to open more of our state parks and forests for fracking.

I am an adoptee who lost her identity the minute I was born. I don't feel it is fair that these laws are still in effect from the 1900's. People who of age 18 should be allowed to know where they came from their heritage and get their medical. Adoptees are the only ones still without rights. I am in total support of A909/S2490A..

The Food and Drug Administration does not require safety testing of new genetically modified foods (“GMOs”), instead relying on corporations' profits from the sale of such foods to ensure their safety for us. Contrary to industry claims, GMO foods have not been proven safe, and a growing body of independent, peer-reviewed studies have linked the consumption of GMO foods to allergies, infertility, immune problems, gastrointestinal disruption, cancer, and a host of other diseases. GMO crops can easily contaminate non-GMO crops, threatening organic agriculture, and their use is linked to increases in toxic pesticide use and the emergence of “superweeds.” Further, the absence of labeling of GMO foods and seeds prohibits those with specific ethical or religious practices from making informed food choices.

I am a semi-retired, licensed mental health counselor who spent 35 years in the public system: the courts, the prisons, the involuntary system, the community clinics and group homes, Red Cross disaster programs, programs for combat vets, programs for immigrants and refugees. Mental health care in general and public mental health in particular has never been adequately supported, funded or represented for what it truly is--an utterly necessary service intrinsic to modern societies. It's time--

I am starting this petition because it is time that people who pay the least in taxes are running this country and banking industry. It is time that the people who pay the most in taxes collectively have the right to control and regulate industry.

Oahu was recently in the national spotlight for a pilot program converting streetlights to a light-emitting diode (LED) system. The initial project installed 180 LED lights in four locations: Manoa, Mililani, Nuuanu, and Waialae-Kahala. The City and County of Honolulu determined that this new system saved $50 per light per year. LED conversion is a common-sense solution that saves both costs and energy. As an island state, we are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise and are already seeing its effects on our eroding beaches. We need to model energy efficiency for the country and for the entire world. LED lamps also produce brighter directional light that dramatically improves the safety of our streets. It is up to us to show leadership on this critical issue. Mayor Caldwell proposed converting all 51,700 streetlights on the island to LED, representing a potential savings of $3 million per year. While the City Council initially cut the $80,000 in funds needed for this project, I fought to restore this funding, and the cut was reversed at the final Budget Committee hearing earlier this month. I am calling on my fellow members of the City Council to approve the budget that restores funding for LED conversion across the island. The full council will meet on June 4 for this crucial vote.
