De-listed from the Endangered Species List in six states, they are hunted, trapped, and gassed in their dens, resulting in at least a 20% overall drop in their population. Wolves are not a threat to humans, and have a minimal impact on livestock losses. Wolves are deeply committed to family life, and when a pack member is slain, it can fatally disrupt pack life. Animal Planet must stop perpetuating lies about wolves!

The allegation that veterans died while waiting to receive care at the Phoenix VA -- and that managers "cooked the books" to cover up inadequate wait times -- is a tragedy, deserves an investigation, and an appropriate response. Unfortunately it has become a political football, with the loudest voices often the same people who voted against increased funding for veterans health care just three short months ago. Many Republicans have yet to forgive current VA Secretary General Shinseki for speaking up about the force size needed to secure the kind of victory in Iraq neoconservatives were saying would be easy in 2003. But it’s time for them to put that aside and focus on getting the answers our veterans — many of whom are seeking care after returning from Iraq — have earned and deserve. That's the only way to determine what happened and improve the system for current and future veterans.

In August, it will be a year since my stem cell transplant. I was one of the lucky ones. My sister was a perfect match (see “Lifesaving Procedure With an Image Problem”, New York Times, Science, April 22,2014, p.D7, see link below) But for many of the 12,000 patients diagnosed in the U.S. each year with blood cancers, only about 30% of those needing a transplant will have a matching donor in their family. The other 70% will depend on the National Marrow Donor Program (BetheMatch.org) to identify a matching donor. The likelihood of such a find ranges from 66% to 93%, with minority groups seriously underrepresented. Getting the word out to potential donors about this relatively simple, but life saving procedure is a difficult and costly process. Our idea is to link transplant donation to blood donation. We know that donating blood at one’s place of work or through community blood drives is a well known and accepted activity. We suggest that at the conclusion of the blood donation, individuals be presented with information about being a transplant donor. We want a Costco in Southeast Davidson County. Southeast Nashville is the fastest growing and most populated area of Davidson County. Neighbors residing in the area are highly educated and have over $2.9 billion dollars of disposable income. Additionally, several thousand neighbors commute through our area on the I24, Bell Rd, Murfreesboro Rd and Nolensville corridors daily. We are home to several large churches, community colleges, hockey rink, culinary school, midsize employers and small businesses. We would like to have convenient access to quality goods and services at low prices in the Southeast area of Nashville. Currently, we have to commute over 45 minutes to 1 hour each way to the nearest Costco in Davidson County. Please open a Costco in the Southeast Davidson Nashville.

Critically important opportunity to shift to renewable energy in New Mexico: PNM is being forced to shut down two coal units at the San Juan Coal Plant. The decision made in this case will lock in energy infrastructure choices for the next 30 years or more. PNM wants to replace that power with the purchase of more coal and more nuclear when renewables are currently less expensive and have huge environmental, economic, and public health benefits. This petition calls upon the Albuquerque City Council and Mayor to use their power to push the Public Regulation Commission to reject PNM's proposal for more coal and nuclear and to replace the energy with renewable sources instead.
