Since the Newtown, CT shooting in late 2012, there have been nearly 50 mass shootings across the country. Enough is enough. It's time to end gun violence. Our right to be safe in our communities should not take a back seat to the right to own guns without regulation. Let's take a stand against gun violence!

Some in Congress are attacking the Obama Administration for using diplomacy and transferring prisoners from Guantanamo to bring home U.S. prisoner of war Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. No critic of the Administration has explained how President Obama and Secretary of Defense Hagel were supposed to bring Bowe home without negotiating with the Taliban or agreeing to the prisoner transfer. None has explained why, if the prisoners at Guantanamo are "prisoners of war," they should not be treated like prisoners of war in other conflicts: exchanged for other prisoners of war, or released at the end of hostilities. Show your support for diplomacy and for bringing our soldiers home by signing our petition.

I personally use Medical Cannabis for severe PTSD, IBS, Chronic Wasting disease, and degenerative disk disease. I have been on many, many Psychotropics and pain meds that only affected me negatively. Since I have been using Medical Cannabis my quality of life has excelled. I now have the opportunity to enjoy my life and pursue a life of happiness. I do not want that right taken away. My grand daughter was beat, almost to death, by her own father, at the tender age of 10 WEEKS! She had 22 broken bones, brain damage & a punctured trachea. lf he had been made to register, this tragedy (and most likely, many others) may have been prevented!

UPDATE JUNE 13th: The legislature AGAIN failed to act in passing a comprehensive transportation bill. And now they're on vacation for the summer. Keep contacting your legislators so they know this is NOT acceptable. Michigan roads need serious work. Michigan buses need serious work. So do our trains, ports, and trails. I get around Michigan lots of different ways and have seen the damage neglecting our roads and transit has caused. To make Michigan successful today and in the future, we need to invest in transportation!

Immediate Action Required: House Bill 359 (HB 359) is coming up to vote this Thursday, June 6, 2014. The term 'Dry Needling' is Acupuncture, re-branded by Physical Therapists, allowing PT’s and Athletic Trainers to perform acupuncture as part of their scope of practice without adequate training. I cannot endorse the use of Acupuncture under the name “Dry Needling” by therapists who aren’t properly trained acupuncturists. HB 359 has no provision for training requirements. Improper needling can cause serious injury and harm. Proper needling takes years of training to be applied safely and effectively. As a public health and saftey issue, I am asking you to vote no on HB 359.

Gov. Snyder is refusing to acknowledge Mark Schauer's requests for a debate. The citizens of Michigan deserve the opportunity to see its gubernatorial candidates in multiple debates. Our future, and the future of our great State of Michigan, depend on the outcome of the election on November 4, 2014.

Every child, whether rich or poor, should have the opportunity to get a strong start to their education. Yet, only half of 3- and 4-year old kids in California actually have access to quality preschool, and far too many are from low-income households. This isn't right. There's a budget proposal to fix this, but we need a huge show of support to get Gov. Brown to sign it.

Somerville has not had the chance to thoroughly discuss the new online high-stakes test called PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career) as a replacement for MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) and what it will mean for our kids, teachers, and K-12 schools.

We need to ensure that a college education still means a better life for the Americans who put themselves through school. Our government should not be profiting off of crushing student debt. Rather, we should be working to make college affordable for all Americans. An affordable college education means a more educated and economically prosperous America. Bringing down the interest rates on existing student loans would help young Americans to achieve some economic security in today's economy. The $1.2 trillion dollars in student loan debt in America is a crisis that threatens our economy. That is why we must give student borrowers the ability to refinance at today's lower rates—rates agreed upon by both Republicans and Democrats. It's time we address the issue of student loan debt in America—Senator Nelson, please support the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act.
