  • Impeach Roy Moore
Because the Separation of Church and State is fundamental to a free society. Roy Moore has shown his inability to be impartial. He has shown himself to be utterly biased and bigoted. He is standing in the court house door against marriage equality. http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/02/alabama_chief_justice_roy_moor_4.html After the letter to the Governor and the Order to the Probate judges, I will be going to Montgomery to file a complaint, if able, to the Judicial Inquiry Commission. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mujTchVKDanlkslDTWpXwjRMQihyD8r0gK6jpRafuck/edit?usp=sharing I delivered this petition on 2-17-2015. Thank you to all the supporters, and MoveOn .org. Keep signing, the more the better. I will email all signers with information as it unfolds. http://www.southalabamaatheist.com/

  • Renewal Realty: Keep The COVE in Knox Gates!
The COVE (Community Organized with a Vision of Excellence) is a Media Arts & Literacy Program for at-risk teens in an under-resourced area in the Norwood section of the Bronx. For 25 years The COVE has offered neighborhood teens a safe space off the streets, media arts and literacy development, job and college preparation, homework help, educational trips, recreation, life skills, and positive relationships with peers and mentoring adults. Help them remain in their neighborhood! Please sign this petition and tell your friends and family - The COVE needs 2,000 signatures! HISTORY The Knox Gates Neighborhood Association (KGNA), a grassroots community organization of area residents, was organized in 1977 to target the drug trafficking, violence, and neglect that was pushing the community towards deterioration and despair. In 1988, with additional help from foundations and local institutions, a group of teens and neighbors rehabilitated a donated neighborhood basement and initiated their youth after-school and summer programs. Since 2010, KGNA/The COVE has collaborated with CTM Dreams to offer an excellent Media Arts & Literacy Program. The Board and staff of The COVE have gained skills and invaluable experience on how to design, staff, promote and deliver a meaningful and fun filled, neighborhood based youth program. Today, nearly 25 years stronger, The COVE continues their role as a trusted and consistent presence for young people in our community. MISSION The Knox Gates Neighborhood Association (KGNA) believes in the power of community. Together the neighborhood youth, adults, and elders have organized to create The COVE, a safe space that provides neighborhood teens with after-school and summer programs. The COVE Media Arts & Literacy Program offers the neighborhood teens college and career readiness and a place to learn self-reliance, respect for others, and the skills to live full, cooperative, and productive lives. • Sign Ordinance
The city of Gilroy has passed an Ordinance to ban signs, personal wavers, mascots and A frames to advertise their business; with the exemption of New Dealerships and Real Estate. Signs such as these are the only way that small businesses can afford to advertise and it also brings about 70 to 80 percent of business to their location. This is unfair to the local businesses and there should be no exemptions to certain businesses.

  • Pharmacists: Stop participating in executions
Nearly all major pharmaceutical manufacturers have blocked use of their drugs for executions, leaving states to contract "on the down-low" with a handful of "compounding pharmacists." For a few pieces of silver, these pharmacists—who are not regulated by the FDA—create their own drugs that will, however painfully or slowly, cause the death of the recipient. It is time for pharmacists' associations to honor their oaths to do no harm to their patients and join all other major medical associations in the US in banning their members from participating in executions!

  • Iranians need not apply
Yahoo is making access to secure and reliable email more difficult for Iranians. How? Yahoo has decided to not allow people in Iran to create new email accounts simply because of where they live. Iran is facing unprecedented sanctions, but essential services like free email accounts have long been exempt from those laws.* No matter where you stand on the effectiveness of the Iran sanctions, those laws don't apply here. The White House and State Department have made clear that it is important to ensure sanctions do not disrupt Iranians' access to online communications. That's why they exempted the technology from sanctions in the first place. For many of us in the US who use services such as Gmail or Hotmail, not having access to Yahoo may not seem like a big deal. However, Yahoo is the most popular email service in Iran and over 63% of Iranians use Yahoo as their primary email provider.* This unnecessary move by Yahoo to limit access may force many Iranians to use insecure and less-stable government Internet communications services – essentially the local equivalent of an NSA-run email service. Safe and reliable email services is something we need everyone to have access to. We know our voices matter to Yahoo because Yahoo executives have been responsive to these kinds of campaigns before. Last year, after a prolonged campaign, Yahoo agreed to turn on HTTPS encryption by default, which made its email service far more secure for everyone. Especially now, after the NSA scandal, Yahoo cares about what people like us think about them more than ever. In a recent speech, Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo, said that, as a company, Yahoo needs to “rebuild trust with our users.” We need to remind Yahoo that the trust it needs to rebuild isn’t just with users in the US, but all potential users around the globe. And that Yahoo’s stated commitment to Internet security needs to extend to all its users - no matter what country they’re from. Technology is a tool that makes it infinitely easier for people from all over the world to share their hopes, stories and dreams together. Now that the United States and Iranian governments are talking to each other after decades, we need to raise our voices to ensure that every day citizens can have that same privilege too.

  • Fire Officer Brian Thierbach and Charge Him With Animal Cruelty
As a professional Humane Educator, I know all too well that people who hurt animals are violent and tend to become people who bully and hurt people. This is not the kind of individual that should be sworn in as an officer of the law. He should not be allowed to carry a gun and bully people around. I take the unnecessary killing of a friendly dog by a law enforcement officer for no apparent reason very seriously. This act violates our trust in our officials.

  • Ensure New Americans Gain Full Access to the Polls
Same Day Registration is available on Election Day in 11 other states and in the District of Columbia. States that offer Same Day Registration consistently lead the nation in voter turnout, and as Asian Americans grow in numbers, it’s crucial to make those numbers count at the ballot box. Sign this petition, so our legislators can hear our voices on why accessing the ballot matters to our communities.

  • Legalize CBD oil for Oklahoma Kids with Epilepsy
My son, Jonas, suffers from seizures brought on by a genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome. His medications are not working to control the seizures, but do cause debilitating side effects including impaired balance, motor skills, and speech. An oil extract from a strain of medical marijuana that produces no "high" has been found to help children in states where it is legal, and with an 85% success rate. Oklahoma children deserve the opportunity to live seizure free.

  • Require police nationwide to wear body cameras.
I'm simply sickened and disturbed about the unnecessary use of deadly force by individual police officers against innocent civilians nationwide. Often these attacks are a product of racial bias, anger issues, or ineffective training. This is one of the most important civil rights issues of our generation.

  • Urge CNN, MSNBC, NPR to do a story on shrinking songwriter pay in the music industry
The way streaming services pay royalties represents a major shift in the economic gears that have been underlying the industry for a decade. On a 99-cent download, a typical artist might earn 7 to 10 cents after deductions for the retailer, the record company and the songwriter. One industry joke calls the flow of these royalties a “river of nickels.” In the new economics of streaming music, however, the river of nickels looks more like a torrent of micropennies. Spotify, Pandora and others like them pay fractions of a cent to record companies and publishers each time a song is played, some portion of which goes to performers and songwriters as royalties. Unlike the royalties from a sale, these payments accrue every time a listener clicks on a song, year after year. The question dogging the music industry is whether these micropayments can add up to anything substantial. Complicating the issue, each type of service pays different rates. Pandora’s are set by law. Spotify generally pays 0.5 to 0.7 cents per stream for its paid tier, and as much as 90 percent less for its free tier. At this very moment, lobbyists for these streaming services are trying to set the amount paid per play to even lower amounts. This unjust and self-serving move is forcing songwriters of even the most popular and highly spun songs to see dismal amounts of return for their hard work and investment into their craft. Although there are many songwriters and music artists expressing their views on various online news outlets and Facebook, not enough attention is being brought to this issue on the national news stage. Congress is currently reviewing this matter, but with the financing power and lobbying of these streaming services being heavily implemented, the real losers of this battle are the artist, songwriters and music fans. Songwriters have helped create the most memorable music for decades and now people in this profession are seeking employment elsewhere or seek multiple jobs to sustain themselves and their families. Please sign and share this petition if you love music and want to see your artist and songwriters be paid fairly for their contribution to society. We hope that with enough attention, this issue could be brought to light on a national level.
