• Leave Sunday Parking Meter Enforcement Alone
Air pollution caused by traffic congestion contributes to asthma attacks, especially for kids, increases the probability of cancer, increases the probability of heart disease, and increases the probability of premature death. The World Health Organization categorizes air pollution, including that from cars, as a carcinogen just like cigarette smoke. Parking meter enforcement on Sundays is proven to reduce traffic congestion because drivers are spending only 2 minutes circling, looking for parking instead of 4 minutes or more when Sunday meters were not enforced. See: http://sf.streetsblog.org/2014/04/01/reiskin-lets-keep-sunday-parking-meters-but-not-enforce-them/ http://sf.streetsblog.org/2014/01/16/mayor-lees-spineless-sunday-meter-reversal-bad-for-business-bad-for-sf/

  • Gender Equality in the Workplace
Women are largely absent from the top levels of corporate management, only 7 out of 100 of the highest earning CEOs in America are women! The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Office has recently issued some strong and detailed recommendations for removing barriers for equal pay and improve the status for women in the workplace. The Paycheck Fairness Act was a good beginning to the fight for equality, don't let this issue be set aside so easily. Tell the White House and Congress that this bill needs to be re-introduced and then passed!

  • Mosquito Management Needed in Stapleton
Male mosquitos are already swarming the neighborhood, which doesn't bode well for the summer months. Last summer it became excruciatingly clear that there is a need for mosquito population control in Stapleton's parks, open space and water retention areas. This is not only an issue of comfort, but also of protecting the health of our residents. The purpose of this petition is not to prescribe which measures are appropriate (spraying, adding fish to the ecosystems, etc.), but to draw attention to the need for an immediate and long-term solution.

  • The Jason and Philip Act
In 2003 on December 27th my brother Jason "JJ" Jaco and uncle Philip "Butch" Mocalis, Jr. were killed instantly by a female truck driver who suffured with schizophrenia and had not been taking her medicine Haldol, she had a hallucination stating cars cut her off which bystanders and witnesses stated that there were no other vehicles around. The driver was only charged with two counts of manslaughter (A slap on the wrist) and had her license taken away for any driving jobs in California, so she moved to Nevada and got a driving job for a school bus full of kids. When someone gets their driving privileges taken away for any driving jobs it should be nation wide not just the state it happened in. This is not right too many people are losing their loved ones to truck drivers and not getting compensated for their loss. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, NO MORE!!!

  • Tell Gables Residential to Build it Better: Ensure Good, Safe Jobs
Gables Residential is a prominent developer of luxury apartments in the Southern United States. We need help exposing how construction workers on numerous Gables projects have reported widespread cases of abuse, including: • Not being paid for their work – over $130,000 in wage theft • Denial of legally mandated rest breaks • Unpaid overtime and unsafe working conditions We need you to help us fight back. Workers Defense Project is asking that Gables becomes a Better Builder by ensuring that construction workers who help build their luxury apartments receive a living wage, have safe working conditions, and are able to earn a rewarding career in the industry. Gables has the opportunity to become an industry leader by investing in the workers who have labored tirelessly to help make Gables Residential profitable. We are asking Gables to take this opportunity to improve the lives of thousands of workers. Workers Defense Project (WDP) is a nationally recognized organization, which fights to improve the poor conditions in the construction industry. We have been acknowledged by The New York Times as “one of the nation’s most creative organizations for immigrant workers” and have recovered over $1 million in stolen wages for workers. WDP has signed landmark agreements with developers, which combine expanded safety protections and living wage requirements to improve working conditions. We are asking Gables to join these other developers in ensuring good, safe jobs for thousands of workers.

  • PA PUC Must Deny Sunoco Logistic Public Utility Status
Sunoco Pipeline LP petitioned PA PUC for public utility status, a move that would impact property owners and municipalities in the path of the Mariner East pipeline. As a public utility, Sunoco would have the power of eminent domain and would be exempt from local zoning requirements. A December 2013 PA Supreme Court ruling overruled Act 13’s evisceration of municipal zoning in gas operations and upheld our local government rights. We petition PA PUC to uphold the Pennsylvania Constitution and deny public utility status to the for profit entity, Sunoco.

  • American Indian Student Loan Forgiven a Treaty fulfillment
I applied for Indian Health Service Scholarships and was told I was the top IHS candidate, but not chosen, because someone changed my year of completion on my application. I asked my congressional member to investigate and was told "he doesn't want to get involved." Indian Health Service personnel admitted they shredded my application. "That's our usual procedures." It did not stop me, I took out student loans and now will spend the rest of my life repaying them. I choose to work for American Indian non-profits and sovereign nations.

  • Healthcare Should Not Be a Loan! STOP California from Taking the Homes Of Deceased Medi-Cal Reci...
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program. As part of ObamaCare, Medicaid has expanded to include many more adults. Under a 1993 Federal law, California has decided to take back the full cost of nearly all medical services for recipients age 55 and older by billing their estates after they die. The majority of states have chosen not to do this. Medi-Cal “estate recovery” is a deterrent to signing people up for Medi-Cal. California’s plan forces low-income individuals to choose either receiving basic health care OR passing on their homes and other assets to their children. Indeed, the full cost of Medi-Cal services from age 55 until the time of death will often be greater than the value of the estate. Then California will be able to take everything and leave nothing for the children of the deceased. SB1124 has been introduced into the California State Senate. Should it become law, “estate recovery” will be limited to that which is required by Federal law - the costs of nursing home and long-term in-home and community-based care.

  • FAA: Follow published procedures and stop shifting SFO aircraft noise over Brisbane!
In the last 10 years, the number of SFO aircraft departures flying directly over Brisbane, California has increased by more than 220%. Every single flight that wakes us up early in the morning or late at night, or disrupts our workday, is the result of FAA controllers instructing pilots to turn their planes early instead of following published procedures. The FAA recently released an environmental assessment report in support of proposals to “optimize aircraft routes.” The residents of Brisbane are concerned that the FAA instructions to ‘cut the corner’ over our town will become the new standard procedure, and aircraft noise in our community will get much worse. We’re not asking the FAA to route planes over another community and create noise problems for someone else. We just want the FAA to follow the published procedures that were originally designed to minimize noise over ALL communities on this departure route. Please help us put pressure on the FAA to stop cutting corners and preserve the quality of life in our wonderful town!

  • Congress passed a law to collect Social Security debts of parents from their children!
Why are we charging the children of the poor and disabled for benefits that their parents received and spent? This is insanity! Start taxing the rich and stop this grand theft. It's undignified for the "greatest nation on earth" to go after these petty sums. These people are not wealthy and did not even receive the benefits for which they have been charged. The law abhors unjust enrichment, and this is the epitome of injustice. The article at the Washington Post is titled: Social Security, Treasury target taxpayers for their parents’ decades-old debts, at http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/social-security-treasury-target-hundreds-of-thousands-of-taxpayers-for-parents-old-debts/2014/04/10/74ac8eae-bf4d-11e3-bcec-b71ee10e9bc3_story.html?wpisrc=nl_pulse
