The coal ash spill along the Dan River is a tragedy that is still getting worse. Almost three weeks after the spill started, contaminated groundwater continues to leak into the river. This is yet another example of the problems with fossil fuels. Gov. McCrory should clean up all these toxic waste sites immediately, and move the state of North Carolina towards a clean energy future, using sources like wind and solar that don't pollute our environment.

In 2011 I started the documentary These Storied Streets, which profiles Americas homeless across the country. I had no idea how violent, how often and scary it could be to be living on the streets. Often, just for fun, the homeless is targeted and beaten. Films like Bum Fights and Bum Hunter have lead to strings of violence against this vulnerable and unprotected people. This needs to change. Violence because of a economic condition is no different than violence associated with race or religion.

My daughter was placed and approved for adoption in Benton County last week. This was against my wishes. The judge and all parties involved acknowledged me as the biological father. I signed the putative father registry prior to the filing of the petition for adoption and prior to the birth of my daughter, but this did not ensure my rights as the father. The adoption agency involved assisted the mother in hiding the pregnancy, as did the adopting party. The adoption agency brags on its website that adoptions in Arkansas are much easier and only take six days to finalize as opposed to sixty or ninety days in most states.

As a resident of Detroit, i have been disenfranchised by the imposition of emergency manager and the filing for bankruptcy by the bankruptcy lawfirm that represent the creditors. Jones Day has no right to take over our city and our pensions.

This coming Wednesday, February 26, the Nevada State Board of Education will vote on whether Nevada students will be taught climate science as part of the Next Generation Science Standards. But opposition from vocal groups to the new standards is growing across the country, including here in Nevada, in part because the standards teach kids the facts about climate change. State Board of Education members need to hear from parents, grandparents and science supporters immediately. This is a crucial moment that will determine whether or not Nevada students will receive a 21st science education, or whether they will be held back because of those who don’t “believe” in climate change and other accepted findings of science. At a time when climate change-impacted drought is threatening water supplies throughout Nevada, it’s more important than ever for Nevada students to gain a strong understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change so they can be part of the solution. Let’s send the Board a strong message that our kids deserve the best possible science education that includes learning about climate change. Please sign the petition calling on the Board to adopt the Next Generation Science Standards. If we act today, our children and grandchildren will thank us tomorrow! I run a specialty electronic cigarette shop in Ogden, UT. Most users of e-cigs are now FORMER smokers living drastically healthier lives by using pv's (personal Vaporizers) as an alternative to deadly, filthy tobacco. With Ray's proposed legislation, we would be banned from advertising, be held to manufacturing and sales standards that shops that sell beer and tobacco are not held to, and I oppose this blatant power-move and also oppose his fiction-based facts that he presents to constituents.
