  • Yahoo Mail: Stop charging a fee to actually close accounts
After my Yahoo email account was hacked for the second time last year, I deactivated my account. Imagine my surprise when I recently learned that contacts of mine are still receiving spam from my defunct account. As a therapist it is problematic that an email coming from my identity with the subject “How are you?” could potentially harm the computer of a friend, colleague or even client. When I contacted Yahoo tech support, they told me they would require a fee of $49.99 to delete the account. Their explanation was that a hacker from Canada was able to reactivate the account after I deactivated it online, but before Yahoo deleted it from their server. I could not access the account, nor could I stop the spam without paying this ransom. The consequences for me are serious, but could have been even worse. From cyber-bullying to official persecution, the way we manage our online identities can have real-world repercussions, and each of us must have the freedom to make our own choices online. Privacy and control of our online identities are concerns shared by most internet users. Please sign the petition to Yahoo to cease its extortionist practices, and share this story so all internet users are aware that creating an email account with this company means you may need to pay to close the account.

  • End the Siege of Yarmouk Camp
We are people who have spoken out and protested against war or sanctions on Iran. We are people who have opposed the Obama Administration’s plan to bomb Syria. We know the sorry results of U.S. and European interventions in the Middle East. We also have spoken out against mistreatment of Palestinians by Israeli forces and the denial of basic Palestinian human and national rights for many decades. We write to you about the situation of Palestinians in Yarmouk. The camp and its tens of thousands of residents have been under total siege for around six months. The Washington Post reported in mid-January that 48 Palestinians have died from hunger and related causes. We have seen pictures from Yarmouk of people reduced to near skeletons from malnutrition. We are not offering a solution to Syria’s problems; however we are united in saying that a siege of tens of thousands of civilians is cruel and improper. It violates international law and religious teachings. Attacks on civilians by any side in the conflict must be condemned. We ask that your representatives contact the Assad government and insist that it end its siege of Yarmouk and all predominantly civilian areas. • ERA Now!
We need three states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment so that it can be added to the Constitution, as our 28th Amendment. The time has come for equality among women and men to be recognized and supported by our United States Constitution.

  • Back @SenSanders: Use War $$ to Care for Veterans
As economists Joseph Stiglitz and Linda Bilmes have argued, part of the cost of a war is caring for veterans afterwards. Now Senator Bernie Sanders is proposing to use money from the war account to pay for his veterans' benefits bill, including reversing the cuts to military pensions. 18 military and veterans organizations have backed the Sanders bill. [1] Urge Congress and the President to support Sanders' proposal to use war funding to pay for veterans' benefits. • Voting Rights Act
I am concerned Citizen and The Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed. Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Rep. Smith should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

  • Mayor Bill De Blasio: Save the horse drawn carriage rides in New York City
Let the carriage horses be! As a professional animal trainer and manager, I know that my animals love the work we do together, and they love their fans and the carriage horses do too! Both carriage and police horses are beloved and cared for and are an important part of New York - AND SHOULD REMAIN SO. Don't sell out the stables for commercial development. Instead, give them turnout privileges in Sheep's Meadow, Central Park and one day of rest a week to enjoy it!

  • Deport Justin Bieber
The American Dream is something that people world wide strive for. Those fortunate enough to be granted a Visa are given the opportunity under the pretext that they have the potential to be productive citizens of the United States. Mr. Bieber has displayed a total lack of this quality by endangering the lives of Florida residents and showing a total lack of remorse and even pride for his actions upon departing the courthouse. Furthermore, Mr. Bieber has proven to be a disastrous role model for pre-teens and adolescents. We ask that he be held to the same standard of the law as the rest of us and face his charges as they are currently filed. If convicted he should have his Visa and or drivers license revoked immediately. Sincerely,
