  • Comcast: Let Us Know How Often You Hand Our Data to the Government
Verizon, Facebook, and Google have all agreed to release transparency reports disclosing how many times local, state, and federal law enforcement ask for our phone and other records. That's a vital first step in the work millions of us are doing to stop government and corporate invasion of our privacy, in all our communities. But in recent news reports, Comcast officials noted that they were evaluating whether they would release a similar transparency report. Let's help them with their evaluation and sign a petition to Comcast, telling them that they must release that report now and on a regular basis, and let consumers know when the government has asked for our data.

  • Cautious Policy Toward Ukraine
There are numerous examples of antisemitic and racist manifestations in the protest movement in Ukraine. A Jewish man has recently been beaten and stabbed in Kiev. Due to intimidation, the Jewish community in Kiev is reluctant to speak up against anti-Jewish violence. The sites associated with the protest movement tolerate racist and antisemitic language. Jewish graves have been desecrated. Given the troubled history of that country, concerns for the remaining Jewish population in Ukraine are very real and action on behalf of our government is urgent.

  • No more dirty oil on our city's railways!
I live one mile from the Schuylkill River (pronounced "SKOOL-kill")On January 20th, I learned that a train carrying crude oil had derailed on a bridge near my house and was hanging over the river precariously. If that train had spilled, it would have been catastrophic for my neighborhood and my city. It could have caused a fireball like the kind that destroyed Lac-Megantic Quebec, causing 47 deaths. Even if there is no disaster and the fuel is burned as intended, it will cause even worse damage to our climate over time. We need to leave it in the ground. Please stop allowing extreme energy fuels to be shipped on our city's rails.

  • Petition to remove Ms. Weiss from her position at Franklin Academy
Any use of violence by a teacher or staff member is inexcusable. Ms. Weiss threw a shoe at a student and is being permitted to continue teaching our children. Our children's safety and security should be our top priority and Ms. Weiss should be terminated.

  • Corrupt police & legal system puts innocent people, like our Dad in jail-Are you next?
When the police and legal system who are supposed to be protecting children are the ones causing them to be illegally treated, humiliated, traumatized, coerced to lie and getting their parent taken away from them it is time to speak up! This type of treatment unfortunately can happen to anyone - that is why we are asking you to sign this petition to get them removed or at minimum disciplined. Please pass this petition on to others who are tired of misconduct by officials in the legal system.

  • Yahoo Mail: Stop charging a fee to actually close accounts
After my Yahoo email account was hacked for the second time last year, I deactivated my account. Imagine my surprise when I recently learned that contacts of mine are still receiving spam from my defunct account. As a therapist it is problematic that an email coming from my identity with the subject “How are you?” could potentially harm the computer of a friend, colleague or even client. When I contacted Yahoo tech support, they told me they would require a fee of $49.99 to delete the account. Their explanation was that a hacker from Canada was able to reactivate the account after I deactivated it online, but before Yahoo deleted it from their server. I could not access the account, nor could I stop the spam without paying this ransom. The consequences for me are serious, but could have been even worse. From cyber-bullying to official persecution, the way we manage our online identities can have real-world repercussions, and each of us must have the freedom to make our own choices online. Privacy and control of our online identities are concerns shared by most internet users. Please sign the petition to Yahoo to cease its extortionist practices, and share this story so all internet users are aware that creating an email account with this company means you may need to pay to close the account.

  • End the Siege of Yarmouk Camp
We are people who have spoken out and protested against war or sanctions on Iran. We are people who have opposed the Obama Administration’s plan to bomb Syria. We know the sorry results of U.S. and European interventions in the Middle East. We also have spoken out against mistreatment of Palestinians by Israeli forces and the denial of basic Palestinian human and national rights for many decades. We write to you about the situation of Palestinians in Yarmouk. The camp and its tens of thousands of residents have been under total siege for around six months. The Washington Post reported in mid-January that 48 Palestinians have died from hunger and related causes. We have seen pictures from Yarmouk of people reduced to near skeletons from malnutrition. We are not offering a solution to Syria’s problems; however we are united in saying that a siege of tens of thousands of civilians is cruel and improper. It violates international law and religious teachings. Attacks on civilians by any side in the conflict must be condemned. We ask that your representatives contact the Assad government and insist that it end its siege of Yarmouk and all predominantly civilian areas.
