• Stop the Stealing of Pension Funds of Hard Workers
My son has a little 9 month old baby at home with his wife. He gets by on his salary. He counts on his employer to pay in for part of his pension for when he retires. With some cities and states looking to use these pension funds to help run their municipalities, workers like my son will have a very difficult time when they retire. Please do not use pensions as a source of municipal income. Big corporations can handle an extra fee much more easily than the individual working man.

  • John Boehner, You're Fired!
This petition hopes to solve the problem of gridlock in the House of Representatives today. I am a long-time political activist, and I've fought, for forty years, to elect a president from the progressive wing of the Democratic party. In 2008 I finally achieved that goal. And yet, when progressives lost the House in 2010, that was the start of three long years of gridlock and inaction. My hopes were dashed, those of my fellow progressive Democrats were dashed, the hopes of immigration reformers were dashed, the hopes of gun violence reformers were dashed, etc. etc. The shutdown just concluded definitively demonstrated that Tea Party Republicans are at the root of the problem. A Speaker needs to be elected by a majority of the House who will lead us away from Tea Party-style governing by crisis. It is time to form consensus. It is time to achieve.

  • We demand Accountability on Student Programs Overseas
Imagine dropping off your child to go overseas on an opportunity of a lifetime? Imagine how you would feel if your child never comes home. My son Ravi Thackurdeen died a 100% preventable death on a school sponsored surprised trip to the beach while on study abroad, two days prior to coming home on April 29, 2012. There was no beach trip not on the very stringent itinerary, however this was the 3rd year it had been done. Duke University and Organization for Tropical Studies took the students to a beach not advised for swimming due to its rip currents and the severe turbulence .caused by the four rivers that pour into it; one of them being the largest in Costa Rica. Duke/OTS took no safety devices, no communication devices, no lifeguards. The leaders and everyone watched for 40 minutes as my son was in the struggle for his life till he won't under. They then left the beach...they told us he was missing. The program continues and they tell me they are not responsible.

  • CT resolution to overturn Citizens United
The U.S. Supreme Court is gutting federal and state campaign finance laws and paving the way for a complete corporate takeover of our democracy. We need to fight back, and the first step is for CT to join other states in demanding a Constitutional Amendment protecting our ability at both the federal and state level to set limits on campaign contributions and spending by outside groups.

  • Make Peace with Iran!
President Obama's administration has reached an interim nuclear deal with Iran which will prevent war and relieve any fears that Iran might build a nuclear weapon. The people of Massachusetts don't want more sanctions or war, they want diplomacy to succeed. We need Senators Markey and Warren to speak out in favor of diplomacy and against more sanctions.

  • Boycott Automatic Finance, Rafael Financial Group, Flora Ceona Nudelman, and Serge Uson!
To: Automatic Finance/ Rafael Financial Group MD Assessment & Taxation Number #W11459013 410-415-0100 300 Red Brook Blvd Suite 104 Owings Mills, MD 21117 Flora Ceona Nudelman 2830 Quarry Heights Way 410-602-8385 Baltimore, Maryland 21209 Rafael Financial Group 10733 Hewitt Road Owning Mills, MD 21117 From: Mr. Jackson & Mr. Williams Any Credit Auto, LLC 5561 Thomaston Road 478-476-0496 Macon, Georgia 31220 I am extremely desolated regarding this unfortunate situation with Automatic Finance, and Mr. Serge Uson. I have travelled against my business associates who had cautioned me concerning Mr. Serge Uson boorish, and ill-mannered methods. My employee, Mrs. L. Williams persuaded me to reach out to this company, and sadly, she is the one he denigrated and lied to concerning this turbulent situation. My company had one single buy back from Automatic Finance since our business relationship begun. We paid the recourse fee and he still requested certified funds for duplicate payments. However, the check we had sent him cleared our bank account, and we became apprehension regarding his selfish tactics. I began to feel like he tried to pilfer money from Automatic Finance because of his erratic conducts. Why would he harass my employees when his company has been reimbursed? Furthermore, he personally upheld funding from my company, and Mr. Uson refused to pay open deals. We had installed three global positioning systems on cars his buyers bought under the guise of Mr. Serge Uson. My company had to pay one hundred and fifty dollars per installation. Really? Those customers are collateral damage from a ticking time bomb named, Mr. Serge Uson! His behavior is very abusive, and also, this is a, 'purely' unsatisfying working relationships between my employees and Mr. Serge Uson. The question is, what is now and what is next. All the while, it has been tempting to go on offense with exploitative sacrilege strategies. Better yet, I have focused my attention on alerting other dealerships in a control way against Automatic Finance. I have prayed to God, and begged Him not to allow His death’s angels to ride, and take me away until I see Mr. Serge Uson terminated from Automatic Finance. I overheard him make a slandered statement to Ms. L. Williams that he would break my company. It would be remiss on my part not to indicate that Any Credit Auto Sales is an African-American dealership in a market that is battering other dealerships in this area from a competitive standpoint. Mr. Serge Uson is very superficial and slick with his choice of words concerning breaking our company. That type of vulgar language is detestable with his vernacular terminologies that slave owners once used. “Breaking” is what the slave owner called Nat Turner's Rebellion in 1831which is the most prominent slave revolts in American history. Sadly, this event happened on the very day we lost one of the world greatest icons, Nelson Mandela. I supposed this type of racist behaviors was far behind us in this great country. The ghost of Jim Crow is alive and well, and now, we have to deal with his great-grandson, James C. Crow Esquire! Please help support this boycott against Automatic Finance, and Serge Uson!

  • Department of Justice: Stop the Big Bank Bullies!
We knew the big banks would play dirty when officials in Richmond, CA announced a game-changing plan to stop the wave of foreclosures decimating their city. But we didn’t know they would stoop this low. The banks want to bully Richmond out of our plan to seize or buy underwater homes by threatening to make it more expensive for people to borrow money to buy homes if our plan passes. They know that if Richmond successfully implements their plan, other cities will follow -- and that would threaten the banks’ power. Thing is, there’s another name for this kind of bullying: redlining. It’s a tactic that was used for decades to maintain neighborhood segregation and keep people of color out of home ownership -- and it’s completely illegal. By threatening us, the banks are betting that our plan will lose political support not only in Richmond, but nationwide. That’s why we must hold them accountable for threatening illegal action right now. Sign the petition calling on the U. S. Department of Justice to investigate the banking industry’s threats. Decades of redlining kept qualified borrowers in working class communities and communities of color from having the opportunity to own a home. Then came reverse redlining, otherwise known as predatory lending: the banks peddled high-cost bad loans to unsuspecting borrowers. The result? More than 4 million Americans have lost their homes and decades of hard-earned wealth -- mostly in black and brown neighborhoods -- has been wiped away. Cities across the U.S., with Richmond leading the way, are developing a smart strategy to save homes from the bank-caused foreclosure calamity by acquiring troubled loans through purchase or use of eminent domain. This plan would effectively rewrite the rules of the game -- levelling the playing field so that homeowners have a fighting chance to keep their homes. The plan we have to save homes is fair, sensible and has the potential to help tens of thousands of families across the U.S. It’s a win-win solution that reduces foreclosures and blight, helping to stabilize home values and improve property tax revenue for our cities. The big banks and their allies are doing everything they can to intimidate Richmond out of pursuing this plan -- like any bully, they want to keep the game tilted in their favor. They’ve threatened the city with lawsuits, they’ve spread lies about the impact of the program. But their latest tactic -- threatening to make credit more expensive for homebuyers in any city that passes a similar plan -- is way over the line. Don’t let the bullies of Wall Street derail a program that will help communities across America recover. Please sign this petition calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Wall Street’s plans to discriminate against cities that use the laws at their disposal to fix bad loans and save homes.

  • New Orleans: Reclaim the Promise of Public Education--Our Schools, Our Solutions
In October, teachers, students, parents, community organizations, civil rights advocates and faith leaders met in Los Angeles and together endorsed "The Principles That Unite Us." Now, on Dec. 9, we're taking action in New Orleans as part of a National Day of Action to Reclaim the Promise of Public Education. We're uniting around a common vision for our schools. Local teachers and parents, community groups and labor unions, students and faith leaders are united to reclaim the promise of public education for all children. We want great neighborhood public schools that are fully funded and are centers of our community, with wraparound services and curriculum that focuses on teaching and learning, not testing. We need our elected leaders to sign on to the principles. By signing this petition, you'll be telling the local board that you're united with us and that they should get on board. Together, we can reclaim public education as a propeller of our economy, an anchor of our democracy, and a gateway to opportunity for every child.
