I am fed up and disgusted! I want the Congress members who are causing this mess to have to forfeit their salaries until this is resolved! This is pathetic!

Republican extremism has impacted me because my family members cannot apply for any federally-funded programs.

Two of my sons had not been able to get affordable healthcare because of their asthma. Obamacare has paved the way and we are happy with it. Stop this childish behavior now!

The shutdown led me to call Congressman Bucshon's office twice. Both times, the person answering the phone listened to what I had to say, tried to give me their spin on events, and when I said I still did not support the shutdown, they hung up on me. At least the second time, the person did take my name. All I wanted to do was give Mr. Bucshon my opinion, as a voter in his district. He is supposed to be my representative in Congress, and he either hasn't instructed his staff to handle calls better, or he doesn't care what the people he is supposed to represent think. While the shutdown hasn't affected me directly, it affects all of us in some way. I'm tired of not being represented in Congress. A shutdown should NEVER be an option.

Republicans have resorted to shutting down the government and threatening not to pay our bills. They think playing these dangerous games is how they will achieve cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits and take away health insurance from millions. President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Reid are standing strong against Republican extortion attempts around Obamacare and a government shutdown or default. Show that you stand with President Obama and Senator Reid now.

I work for the Department of the Navy and am currently furloughed. As a senior government service employee, with over 42 years in the Navy, the impact on my life is not as grave as for the majority of government employees who will soon be making painful financial decisions in order to continue to meet their obligations. And this is after the eleven days of furlough we already experienced earlier in the summer, the result of sequestration, another political fiasco.

My son-in-law is being furloughed. He is working on national security projects, which were approved by the Congress! How can he pay his bills, including his mortgage? That is for starters; he has a young family and now must scale back on his purchases, thus jeopardizing the economy. He is proud but he may have to ask us for money, which he does not want to do.

My father served 33 years in the U.S. Navy, starting with WWII through the Vietnam War. He and his generation made it possible for me and my generation to enjoy the many benefits of our society. Congress should respect this legacy and behave responsibly with respect to the functioning of our government and begin to act for the common good.

The 14th Amendment states, “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payments of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion,” the critical sentence says, “shall not be questioned.” The President can use it to prevent extremist elements in Congress from using the debt ceiling as economic extortion to force right wing policy on him, Congress and the American people.

Republican extremism has impacted me because cuts to food stamps have caused me to fall deeper and deeper into poverty! I am elderly and handicapped, but am taking the brunt of cuts in benefits virtually every year--and now have received a letter that Congress has allowed another cut effective in November! You cry so loud on cuts to wealthy, but do nothing on cuts to the poor. You are NOT representing the mass of people when you promote such narrow ways and values! Start representing everybody, not just a few wealthy people and corporations.

My son-in-law has been furloughed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and my son's RadioShack store near the base is suffering from a decline in customers. Each man has children, one with autism. We are all affected by the economic slowdown that is resulting from this stupid Republican shutdown! Shame on the Republican Congresspeople who cannot accept that the Affordable Care Act is the law.
