• Strengthen Voting Rights Act
Our basic right to vote is under assault. The right to vote is the political tool that belongs solely to We the People. Restricting or curtailing that right must never be allowed if we are to keep our Democracy viable. Immediately on the heels of our national "Supreme" Court's recent decision to gut our Voting Rights Act by disqualifying Section 4 (which required only certain states to obtain DOJ evaluation and approval that their proposed state laws would not discriminate against voting groups), at least two states, Texas and North Carolina, have now quickly enacted restrictive voter ID laws, the very laws that were, in fact, previously judged to be discriminatory, preventing their enactment prior to this Supreme Court decision. Our Supreme Court’s action has thrust this issue back into the legislative branch of our government, and we must apply heavy pressure upon the House of Representatives and the Senate to restore the full integrity of our critical Voting Rights Act. My petition demands that our Voting Rights Act Section 4 be restored and that it apply to every state in the nation with no ability to “opt out.”

We request that the Board of Education consider the content herein and include the opinions of the parents that these signatures represent in the outcome. APOSTOLIC LETTERISSUED MOTU PROPRIOOF THE SUPREME PONTIFFFRANCISON THE JURISDICTION OF JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES OF VATICAN CITY STATEIN CRIMINAL MATTERS  In our times, the common good is increasingly threatened by transnational organized crime, the improper use of the markets and of the economy, as well as by terrorism. It is therefore necessary for the international community to adopt adequate legal instruments to prevent and counter criminal activities, by promoting international judicial cooperation on criminal matters. In ratifying numerous international conventions in these areas, and acting also on behalf of Vatican City State, the Holy See has constantly maintained that such agreements are effective means to prevent criminal activities that threaten human dignity, the common good and peace. With a view to renewing the Apostolic See’s commitment to cooperate to these ends, by means of this Apostolic Letter issued Motu Proprio, I establish that:1. The competent Judicial Authorities of Vatican City State shall also exercise penal jurisdiction over:a) crimes committed against the security, the fundamental interests or the patrimony of the Holy See;b) crimes referred to:- in Vatican City State Law No. VIII, of 11 July 2013, containing Supplementary Norms on Criminal Law Matters;- in Vatican City State Law No. IX, of 11 July 2013, containing Amendments to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code;when such crimes are committed by the persons referred to in paragraph 3 below, in the exercise of their functions;c) any other crime whose prosecution is required by an international agreement ratified by the Holy See, if the perpetrator is physically present in the territory of Vatican City State and has not been extradited.2. The crimes referred to in paragraph 1 are to be judged pursuant to the criminal law in force in Vatican City State at the time of their commission, without prejudice to the general principles of the legal system on the temporal application of criminal laws.3. For the purposes of Vatican criminal law, the following persons are deemed “public officials”:a) members, officials and personnel of the various organs of the Roman Curia and of the Institutions connected to it.b) papal legates and diplomatic personnel of the Holy See.c) those persons who serve as representatives, managers or directors, as well as persons who even de facto manage or exercise control over the entities directly dependent on the Holy See and listed in the registry of canonical juridical persons kept by the Governorate of Vatican City State;d) any other person holding an administrative or judicial mandate in the Holy See, permanent or temporary, paid or unpaid, irrespective of that person’s seniority.4. The jurisdiction referred to in paragraph 1 comprises also the administrative liability of juridical persons arising from crimes, as regulated by Vatican City State laws.5. When the same matters are prosecuted in other States, the provisions in force in Vatican City State on concurrent jurisdiction shall apply.6. The content of article 23 of Law No. CXIX of 21 November 1987, which approves the Judicial Order of Vatican City State remains in force. This I decide and establish, anything to the contrary notwithstanding.I establish that this Apostolic Letter issued Motu Proprio will be promulgated by its publication in L’Osservatore Romano, entering into force on 1 September 2013.Given in Rome, at the Apostolic Palace, on 11 July 2013, the first of my Pontificate. FRANCISCUS

  • URGENT President Obama: Please take immediate action to assist with Fukushima's disastrous nuclea...
The Fukushima nuclear meltdown was nearly THREE years ago and while we WAIT for Japan to handle the crisis, over 300 tons DAILY of radioactive water hemorrhages into our ocean, killing and contaminating every living thing in its path. This is unacceptable. It is now known that this is far worse (over 300 times say some scientists) than Chernobyl. Life as we ALL knew it before 3/11/11 is now OVER. If this were chemical warfare against children we would risk life and limb to assist. It IS chemical warfare as we do little while children in Japan fight for their lives against an invisible chemical opponent. 40% of them in the Fukushima area are experiencing toxic radioactive levels and some are now being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Mr. President: We ask that you move mountains if necessary to help shut this down. Mobilize a large U.S. team, request nuclear scientists globally to network and assist, whatever it takes. But for the health of all, insist that Japan receive this desperately needed support. We MUST be able to handle reactor meltdowns and nuclear waste effectively or we have no business creating NEW nuclear power plants around the country! If you can't FIX IT, don't BUILD IT!

  • CLOSE A FOREST SERVICE ROAD & SAVE THE WILD!
The Klamath National Forest is in charge of a critical biodiversity “hotspot” in Northern California that extends well into Southern Oregon: the SISKIYOU CREST. This petition asks the Forest Service to close and revegetate with native plants Forest Service Road 47N80, otherwise known as the Bee Camp Road. The Bee Camp Road is long defunct, boulder strewn and barely drivable, mostly by ATVs. Built to access the chromium mines in Hello Canyon in the 1940's, it is now a useless invasion of wild country. The Bee Camp Road begins at Cook and Green Pass and heads west paralleling the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), and surrounded by roadless wildland on all sides. The road is adjacent to the Cook and Green Pass Botanical Area and the Seiad Baker Cypress Botanical Area. The area is designated "back country" by the Klamath National Forest, and all Forest Service management direction in the area emphasizes backcountry and botanical values, wildlife, late successional reserves, and non-motorized recreation. The Bee Camp Road represents an obstacle for wilderness designation; it is a seed source for noxious and non-native weeds; it disrupts the feeling of solitude and isolation in the Red Buttes Wilderness, the Kangaroo Roadless Area, and on the PCT. It also disturbs the abundant wildlife in the area because the road allows access for motorized vehicles, poachers, and others who seek to do harm. The Red Buttes region is the wild central core of the Siskiyou Crest, with the Condrey Mountain Roadless Area to the east and the Siskiyou Wilderness to the west. The Bee Camp Road is the only road still open to vehicular use from Cook and Green Pass to Sundown Gap, a distance of approximately 20 miles. More info and opportunity for added comments can be found as follows. See ttp://thesiskiyoucrest.blogspot.com/2013/05/close-bee-camp-road.html Comments may be submitted in a variety of ways. • Transparent Legislation
I am starting this petition because our local news coverage does not inform us of what exactly each legislator is doing on important legislation. We only get general statement like, 'we need to stop spending so much;, or 'we need to present a strong image around the world.' All citizens have the right to hear each elected officials reasoning and the way they actually voted on important bills.

  • No fracking the Beartooth Front
Save the Beartooth front! We, the citizens of South-Central Montana and others who love to travel here, declare that we will NOT stand by and allow our beloved landscape to be fracked for oil and gas. We do not need or want anything akin to the Bakken disaster in OUR backyard. Our land and water are at stake, and therefore our tourism and agricultural economies, not to mention our cherished outdoors that make this such a special place to live. We call upon John Mork and his Energy Corporation of America to leave Montana, the last best place. Thank you to all who sign. Deb Muth, Chair Carbon County Resource Council Carbon County Resource Council, the local chapter of Northern Plains Resource Council, aims to bring together the hundreds of people who have begun to cry out in response to news that we may be facing the disaster of fracking here in the Beartooths and Big Horn river basin. Northern Plains Resource Council is a grassroots conservation and family agriculture group. We organize Montana citizens to protect our water quality, family farms and ranches, and unique quality of life.

  • Support Morgan Hill Schools, Stop Navigator and Rocketship Charters
Petition Background The opening of Navigator and Rocketship Charters would negatively impact our STUDENTS and neighborhood schools as follows: •The opening of a Rocketship Charter will immediately close one of our neighborhood schools. This would likely cause boundary changes. All other elementary sites will be forced to consolidate, resulting in massive student and teacher reassignments from their current neighborhood schools. •Rocketship will use its associated construction company Launch Pad to build on a 1.6 acre site on Church and San Pedro (behind World Gas Station). Our MHUSD sites follow the minimum 10 acre guideline. Using non-profit bonds to build a high density school that will immediately cause one of our neighborhood schools to close and remain vacant is not a good plan for our neighborhoods. •The opening of a Navigator Charter will cause two schools to share the same campus: a charter school and a current neighborhood school. The disparity of resources between the schools will negatively impact the neighborhood school students. •Navigator and Rocketship primarily focus on English, Math, and obsolete California State Test Scores by narrowing or eliminating History, Science, Foreign Language, Music and Art. •At Navigator and Rocketship, large groups of students spend 1.5 to 2 hours daily in front of computers supervised by tutor/aides rather than teachers. •At Rocketship, an average school of 450 students have 10 teachers (1:45 ratio, 1 teacher for 45 students). This is not the ratio that we want in our schools. In Morgan Hill, our current ratio is 1:29. We prefer to reduce class sizes, not raise them. •Due to the application process, Navigator and Rocketship will not serve all students or even a representative population of our district. They serve English Language Learners very close to proficiency. They require high parent participation. These charters also serve far fewer students with disabilities. If students are not successful, or the charter does not have appropriate programs, these students are returned to our neighborhood public schools. •Our neighborhood schools will receive less funding and this would negatively impact every campus in our district including programs such as Jackson Academy of Math and Music, our Dual-Immersion Multicultural Education Program and planned technology and science academies for P.A. Walsh and San Martin-Gwinn Elementary Schools. •75% of Rocketship teachers are Teach for America interns. These interns have only 5 weeks of teacher preparation. 99% of MHUSD teachers are required to have 1-3 years of post-graduate teacher education.
