  • STUDENT LOAN DEFAULT CORRUPTION
I am an elderly person living on social security disability and have been as a result of a car accident back in May of 1997 that took me out of work from my job in law enforcement where I was employed for almost 24 years. I attempted at one point to go back to school (when around 1985-86). However, due to health problems, I was unable to complete the course (in advertising and computer design). I had to leave school. My initial student loan was not more than $2,500. Today, on social security disability, I am told that I owe the student loan educational people in excess of $17,000! Despite the fact that they have been deducting $151.00 from my disability check EACH MONTH, leaving me less than $800 to live on for the month, they called me this week and asked me how soon I can send in the balance of the loan which is in excess of $17,000! I am also a diabetic and cannot afford the types of food I need to eat to care for my health. I lost my husband in 2004, live alone and cannot meet my personal needs. I receive $16 per month in food stamps! This is a grave travesty in this supposedly richest country in the world. I reapplied for a forbearance, and was told that the fact that I am on disability and have been for some time is not enough of a reason for them to stop this monthly electronic deduction. I need proof from the medical profession that my disability is sure to result in death! I am 63 years of age and cannot take on gainful employment, and even if I could, where would I get 'gainful employment' at this age? I worked all of my life for this money. Because I had no dependents, very much was taken out of my pay. Why now is it possible for this to be happening that I cannot get access to money that I worked for! No one gave it to me. Is this why the checks went to automatic electronic deduction? So that they could have full control over the money we worked for and paid into the system. Have we no more control over the money we worked for? Is there no recourse for this in that they can take this money out now INDEFINITELY--leaving me not enough to live on!

  • Migrant Workers
This petition is about Migrant Workers and their low pay. We have made this petition to help migrant workers get paid more adequate to what they do. Their jobs are grueling and time consuming. Their hours are much longer than what the average person works, with less than an 8th of what they get paid.

  • No National ID-Stop The Immigration Modernization Act
This is a massive violation of American rights and Liberties. Regardless of where you sit in the political spectrum both sides have massively abused power from 9/11 to the recent IRS scandal. If we give the government the ability to to track our every move in the name of immigration can we trust that they won't target people and track people for political reasons? Even if this was run on the up and up it will cause massive TSA experiences from applying job to getting medicine. The cost of freedom is too high. Just say no.

  • Stop The Delisting Of Endangered Wolves
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently proposed to delist gray wolves across the lower 48 states from the Endangered Species Act and we only have a few days left to tell President Obama and Interior Secretary Jewell to change their minds. If the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service removes gray wolf federal protections, wolves in the Pacific Northwest, California, the southern Rocky Mountains, and the Northeast will face even more difficult odds than they do already. The recovery of gray wolves is an American success story, from their reintroduction in the northern Rocky Mountains to their comeback in the western Great Lakes states. But there are few, if any, gray wolves in the vast majority of their former range. This may be our last chance to stop the slaughter of wolves from being even more widespread! Urge President Obama and Secretary of Interior Sally Jewell to maintain protections for gray wolves in the lower 48 states.

  • Stand Up for Veterans and Social Security
Chained CPI is a cut to Social Security and veterans benefits, plain and simple.          President Obama has proposed this cost of living adjustment in an attempt to bring Republicans to the table for negotiations. But over the course of a long retirement, these changes could cost senior citizens $20,000 in benefits. With income inequality at record levels, Americans depend of Social Security now more than ever. Without it, nearly half of all seniors would live in poverty.  Veterans would get hit doubly hard – not only do 9 million vets receive Social Security benefits, but many would also face reduced disability or pension benefits. That's why we need to make our voices heard. Stand shoulder-to-shoulder with me and other progressives in calling for reforms that strengthen Social Security without cutting the benefits on which our seniors and veterans depend.

  • Disaster relief
I am a resident of Oklahoma and grew up in Moore. The people of Moore, as with so many other cities, will persevere and rebuild. I am concerned about the kindness that exudes from complete strangers in times like these. Please take a pledge and tell others to keep this kindness going. Lend a hand to a stranger. Say hello and how are you, MEAN IT AND STICK AROUND FOR A REPLY. See the world through someone else's eyes and get outside of yourself. Care for those who can't care for themselves. Love those who have never known love. Pleeeaaase pass it around!

  • Senators Imhofe and Dr. Tom Coburn: no disaster relief for Oklahoma tornado victims.
Both Senators voted against disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey and other East Coast areas. Senator Dr. Tom Coburn has been against emergency offsets since 1995. Since Oklahomans don't want to help other States and their citizens, let them fend for themselves.

  • Stop the Senate from arming the Syrian rebels
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 15-3 in favor of arming and training the Syrian rebels. This is a misguided and dangerous idea. I helped to train the Iraqi Army during my second tour, and their concern is that many of the anti-Assad forces are the same terrorists they've fought before and who continue to target them. If you don’t think this is serious, consider that Senator John McCain made a secret trip to meet with the anti-Assad forces, this past weekend, as he continues his efforts to arm them. This is dangerous. As Senator Tom Udall noted, once we introduce weapons, we have zero control over them. The United States “could turn over the weapons we’re talking about and next day they end up in the hands of al-Qaida.” Moreover, there is no winning scenario when we get involved in other nations’ civil wars and proxy wars. On this point, Senator Chris Murphy said it best: “We have failed over and over again in our attempts to pull the strings of Middle Eastern politics.” Let's not make the same mistake again.

  • Please save Regal Forrest aprt in morrow
Clayton county board of education wants to take our apartment complax and not give the tenants option to live. We were told that they will build a elite high school so the high school students dont have to cross the streets to go to clayton county college. They are allowing the elementary and middle school students to walk distance across busy streets to get to school but not the high school students. We ahve many single parent that have no mode of transportation nor can afford to move. We also have many disabke tenants that are not eligible for the requirements of most apartment complex. Many tenants have been in the area for years due they can afford to move. The board have not done the reserch nor have the funds to build a school if they should take over the aparment complex. There is a empty lot directly across he street from the Regal forrest and next door to the middle school and they wont consider that as a option because elite student can cross the street. They are willing to displace family and make them homless so they can obtain a proprty that will cause mosre taxes forthe county. They need to under stand that there are other location they can build and how this will effect our community. If youare displacing family then that will be less student in the area they are trying to build the school in. Its no fair that government can take your home and not help you find a place to stay becuase they want to spend money. Please help us save our home. Many of us dont have family we work and are trying our best to to keep a roof over our heads. If not fair how you can pay your rent every month for someone who dont even live in the area to say i want your home and you have to get our and not our problem if you can nor have a place to stay. Please help our community to save our home. Many folks like me will be homeless and i have no were to go.
