Head Start is a valuable early childhood educational tool. Funding is in jeopardy for this program. My son attended Head Start for 18 months. I believe it was instrumental in positive outcomes in his education from the first grade to the completion of his MBA in Hospital Administration.

A couple of years ago Fairfax County Government created "Controlled Lanes" that are open at rush hour and closed all other times. Everyday I sit in heavy or gridlock traffic during off peak times and see those controlled lanes closed when could be open easing the flow of traffic, why are they closed?? REVENUE! So cops can write us tickets. We as tax paying citizens paid for those roads and should have the final say on how we would like to use them! If you are sick of seeing those controlled lanes closed and creating heavy traffic help by signing this petition and get them open!

Within the last week, Minnesota's gasoline prices have jumped to the highest in the nation, even more than Hawaii. A month ago we were about 3.29 a gallon and now we have jumped to 4.45 a gallon and rising daily. They are claiming that this is because 2 refineries in Illinois have decided to do maintenance and are shutting down producton. Interestingly this is going to start before the busiest travel holiday season, between Memorial day and the 4th of July. This was definatly a preplanned action. There are not any gas stations that are running out of gas, they all have plenty and yet prices are going up daily. Minnesota has its own gasoline refinery which is suppossed to supply our gas. We are once again being ripped off by big Oil by their price gouging during the summer holiday season. What normal business would shut down for maintenance, during the busiest travel season. We own a small business and with these prices people are cutting corners and are not spending, this will cause a rippling effect to the Minnesota Economy. We need to speak out and devulge our minnesota elected officials with emails and phone calls to investigate this scam that is being run on the Minnesota People.

Most of agriculture comes from corn derived from GMO's. If we bring hemp (which is different from the marijuana bud) we wont have to use GMO's. Hemp grows easily fast and can be used for a number of things ( clothes, rope, food, etc) it will help farmers and us nutritionally as well.

We are asking MoveOn to organize a large national protest and teach-in in Washington, DC, in the Summer of 2014. Topics include the failure of government to address: climate change, ending the war on terror, the drone wars, the drug wars, the war on whistleblowers, failure to plan for a sustainable energy future, failure to provide jobs for everyone willing to work, failure to effectively regulate Wall Street

Petition Background Poor and at risk children have been cut out of the budget and denied necessary school prep such as learning to read which would help them be successful. Success at the schoolhouse door means success in the future and breaking the cycle of poverty and having a job, contributing to society and paying taxes. A Democrat and Republican thing to do. As social workers we have seen the benefits of Head Start for children, exciting them about learning and giving them important tools to help them excel in school even though they are poor. In the long run Head Start can make the difference between the schoolhouse or the more expensive justice system.

It is time to re-focus and build for a bright future in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Our new council members seem to have an agenda that splinters the available energy so that core issues have little time left for creative thought. Traditionally we have valued quality city services, education and progressive values in general.

In the wake of the financial crisis, we the people need an economy that works for everyone. we all contribute value to an organization, should not we all profit?
