Bilingual EducationLearning a foriegn language such as French in highschool for 1-2 years is not enought to grasp the language and help our future as promised. It is a necessary prerequisite for a working political, economic, and social community such as ourselves in the United States. Bilingual education is important to our present and future generations because it will better qualify our people for the challenges of tomorrow. Bilingual education should be considered to start in primary school. Reform our education!13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sonia Garcia Vega

Pass the "Sunshine in Campaigns Act" now. This is a comprehensive approach that strengthens the reporting requirements, improves disclosure, modernizes the online filing system, and increases the fines for violations. SB 2, 3, and 27: • Close the non profit reporting loophole. This would prevent future campaigns from Receiving millions from donors, or out of state interests, without having to disclose their sources. • Requires candidates to“stand by their ads.” • Toughens slate mailer disclosures • Requires the Secretary of State to create a new online reporting system • Creates regular, more frequent reporting requirements • Increases fines for violations • Requires disclosure of the top donors on all television, radio, print and web ads. Back in January, when the bills were introduced, there was some conflicting language between them, even though all four bills were dedicated to disclosure of campaign contributions. So the authors, Senators Lieu, Leland, Correa, and Leno worked with each other to ensure that all four bills were compatible and made a comprehensive package. Now, all four senators have endorsed each other’s bills and Common Cause has endorsed all four bills. The Sunshine in Campaigns Act • SB 2 authored by Sen. Ted Lieu • SB 3 authored by Sen. Leland Yee • SB 27 authored by Sen. Lou Correa The Disclose Act • SB 52 authored by Sen. Mark Leno. California could turn the tide on election reform by passing the The Sunshine in Campaigns Act and the California Disclose Act, measures that would shed light on the shadowy interests who depend on secrecy to influence elections.31 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chip Travis

Juji's Sensory Friendly FilmsI want to team up with CT’s movie theaters to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the “Ju-Ji’s Sensory Friendly Films” program. My son Julian “JuJi” has his difficult moments at times when my family takes him to the movie theaters because it is too loud and dark. I have to bring his headphones and at times take him out of the theater if it is overwhelming for him and therefore misses parts or most of the movie. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing-in other words; the silence policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.192 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Melissa Adorno

Stop political interference in public educationEither ban the "public" in public education, or fund it well enough to make an education in the United States the envy of the world. From elementary to higher ed, make S.T.E.M. (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics) the focal point of American education. Get partisan/religious practices OUT of PUBLIC education.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dave Johnson

MR. PRESIDENT: STOP DOING BUSINESS WITH COMPANIES THAT KEEP MILLIONS IN POVERTYThis morning, I walked off my job, because what I make -- less than $10 an hour -- just isn't enough to pay my rent and support my family. I work for a U.S. government contractor at the National Air and Space Museum. There are many people like me -- they work at places we all love like Union Station. The National Gallery of Art. And while CEOs of government contractors are making millions, we’re paid so little that we can’t possibly make ends meet without public assistance. The federal government is by far the largest employer of poverty-wage jobs in the country, with its contract workers struggling to survive on minimum wage, or even less. CEOs make millions, while we, their employees, can’t make ends meet. I've seen what has happened in places like New York and Chicago when workers stand up together and demand a living wage. It needs to happen here in Washington D.C. too, where we are dealing with the same issues despite being in President Obama's backyard. We work for many of the same employers, and get the same poverty wages as these workers. But unlike them, our bosses operate under contract in federally owned buildings. The White House should take whatever means necessary, including executive orders, to lift millions out of poverty by ensuring that all federal agencies pay a living wage. We want to send a message that it’s time to stand up for working people and our communities.929 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Melissa Roseboro

Tell Judge John Roach that morality clauses damage families and have no place in America's courtr...A Republican Texas Judge has ordered a lesbian couple to live apart or give up custody of their children. According to Think Progress, Judge John Roach of McKinney, Texas has given Page Price 30 days to move out of the home she shares with Carolyn Compton and Compton’s two children from a previous marriage because he does not approve of Compton and Price’s “lifestyle.” Roach has placed a “morality clause” in Compton’s divorce papers, which forbids Compton from having anyone she is not related to “by blood or marriage” in her home past 9:00 p.m. if the children are present. Same sex marriage is illegal in Texas, so by law, Compton cannot live with Price if she wishes to retain custody of her children. Compton said that she and Price have been together for three years. Compton’s ex-husband rarely bothers to see the children and was previously arrested on charges of third-degree felony stalking in 2011, charges that he was able to plea down to criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor. In a post on Facebook, Price wrote that Roach had inserted the morality clause into the divorce agreement when Compton’s ex-husband Joshua Compton attempted to gain custody of the children in 2011. The judge wrote that he disapproved of the two women’s “lifestyle.” “Our children are all happy and well adjusted. By his enforcement, being that we cannot marry in this state, I have been ordered to move out of my home,” Price wrote. The two women are working with attorneys to figure out what steps they can take to fight the state’s notoriously conservative court system. Ken Upton Jr., senior staff attorney for Lambda Legal’s Dallas office, told the Dallas Voice newspaper that morality clauses are a holdover from a time when judges tried to keep people with children from living together outside of marriage. Courts often insert the clauses without telling the people involved, particularly in backward, conservative areas like Collin County, Texas. “What the clause has become is an extra burden on gay people because they’re no more likely to violate it than straight people,” Upton told the Voice. “It’s a problem that continues with homophobia.”63,566 of 75,000 SignaturesCreated by Destyn Sublett

Block the New Britain to Hartford Busway! The state of Connecticut is building a polluting, expensive and totally unnecessary busway, right on top of the rail line! Light rail or high speed electric rail are less polluting and faster, and in view of worsening global warming and climate change, this plan is wrong. It will cost our state nearly $2 billion to build both the busway and the re-built railway in the exact same corridor, and it is duplicative and wasteful.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Martha
