• New Hampshire Senate: Vote to Undo Citizens United!
The New Hampshire House recently passed HCR 2—asking Congress for a constitutional amendment that clarifies that corporations are not people. The Senate has not yet taken up the resolution. In fact, a prohibitive two-thirds vote is being required just for the Senate to consider this resolution—even though it has already passed the House. We should urge the Senate to act on this resolution!

  • Carbon Tax & Dividend Best Fix for Global Warming
According to Dr. James E. Hansen, former head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and its most famous climate scientist, a bi-lateral carbon tax is our last best hope to stop the irreversible effects of global warming. The carbon tax would steer consumers and businesses toward products and energy sources having low carbon foot prints such as wind and solar power, locally grown food, electric vehicles and 4g nuclear power solutions which would replace aging backbone coal fired plants. Market forces and new technologies would determine future product winners and losers over the transitional period of ten years as the carbon tax increases at a predictable rate. If the US and China implement a unified carbon tax the rest of the world will follow or pay import duties to the world's two largest economies. Consumers can use the Carbon Dividend to offset the higher price of energy.

  • MARC: Allow regular bicycles on trains, not just folding bikes
MARC trains only allow folding bicycles, which are typically heavier and more expensive than regular bikes, and bikes are one of the best ways of making public transportation practical, by helping people make up for gaps and problems in that transportation system. Especially in this tough economy, allowing regular bicycles would enable more people to adapt to available public transportation, rather than waiting for transportation to adapt to them. In other words, this would allow Maryland to get the most bang for its transportation bucks.

  • TAX WALLSTREET
The registered nurses of the NNOC (National Nurses Organizing Committee) have purposed a 1% tax on all Wallstreet transactions to generate revenue for needed programs that will benefit all Americans. Since Wallstreet greed caused the near- collapse of the global economy and since they have now been making out like bandits-it is way past time to hold them accountable for giving back a small, small portion of the obscene profits they make (often) to the detriment of Main Street.

  • Social Security early out option
The worst option for helping Social Security is cutting benefits . Raising the individual ceiling and a Robinhood tax are great but an added option is to allow voluntary early outers who accept a lower benefit to do so without an added 50% penalty for continuing to work and continue paying into the system.Ending the penalty would make the option more favored and save SS much money at the lower benefit level..

  • NC Legislature: Do not require drug testing to public assistance recipients
The NC Legislature is about to pass laws that require drug tests for public assistance recipients. This is unconstitutional and will cost the state too much. If these laws pass, all public officials should be required to submit to annual random drug tests as well.
