  • Social Security Should Not Be A Bargaining Chip
The Obama administration is allowing the Republican minority to dictate the terms of the current debate. The current threat, proposed by Obama!, is to reduce Social Security by a subtle adjustment of the Cost of Living calculation.

  • Preserve Our Social Security
Social Security is not the right place to address the deficit. Tell the President and your fellow members of Congress not to support any cuts in Social Security and not to change the way cost of living increases for retirees are calculated.

  • Do Not Cut Social Security or Medicare
President Obama has proposed cutting Social Security by lowering cost-of-living adjustments for current and future retirees. These cuts, sometimes called "chained CPI," will hurt seniors who have paid into the system for their whole lives and are already struggling with rising health care costs. Eighty-seven percent of registered voters 50 and older say it's "very important" that policymakers not cut benefits for current or near retirees. Social Security is sound for many years to come. It can be made even stronger by raising the ceiling on high-income contributions. Instead of cutting Medicare benefits, allow Medicare to make huge savings by negotiating prices with the greedy Drug Companies. Representative Swalwell, you’ve said you will defend Social Security. You can take a strong stand against President Obama's cuts to Social Security and Medicare by signing Representatives Grayson and Takano's letter to the President. It says "That’s why we write to let you know that we will vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits -- including raising the retirement age or cutting the cost of living adjustments that our constituents earned and need." Read the full letter here: http://act.boldprogressives.org/survey/survey_ss_grayson/#fullletter Voters, you can sign petitions opposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare addressed to other officials here: http://signon.org/

  • Stand up to against President Obama's proposal to cut Social Security benefits
As senior I struggle between a meal and medication that is needed for my disablitiy. From another report it was written; all reports I’ve seen, President Obama is going to propose a budget plan this week that is unprecedented for a Democratic President. It will propose a cut to Social Security benefits for seniors, veterans and people with disabilities. As a senior many of the elderly and disabled depend on their only means of income which is social security. Why take away our lifeline! Most of us would still be working today, but because of our disablity our jobs were taken away. We had to adjust to our monthly income. We are just a paycheck from living under the bridge. With this proposed cut it will become a reality!

  • No Social Security Cuts
This is about President Obama's proposal to change the way cost of living increases are calculated for retirees on Social Security. As a person with relatives who are dependent on Social Security, I am concerned that the proposed "chained CPI" would decrease cost of living increases for my relatives and other retirees and make those among the least able responsible for decreasing the deficit. This terrible idea should be rejected. The right solution is to increase the Social Security wage base, so that the burden of deficit reduction doesn't fall on those least able to pay.
