The bipartisan group of senators working on immigration reform, known as the "Gang of Eight," proposed eliminating American citizens' ability to sponsor their immediate family members (siblings and adult children) for legal permanent residence. Despite that family-sponsored immigrants make up less than 9 percent of the annual immigration total, these senators are trying to further curtail family-sponsored immigration. We are facing an imminent threat.

This year, the Massachusetts legislature can take a few simple steps to ensure more people have access to our most fundamental democratic right. - Early voting allows people to vote when it is convenient for them to do so, ensuring that they don’t have to miss work or caring for their families. - Demos, a leading good government and voting rights organization has projected that Massachusetts could see an increase in turnout of 4.9%, with even larger increases anticipated among young voters and African Americans if we implemented EDR. Tell your legislators to remove barriers to exercising our most fundamental democratic right.

This family has been fighting with the Williamstown Township in Michigan over their small farm. Before they moved in they asked if there were any restrictions on animals, and was told no. Now the township leaders are trying to tell the family that they have to get rid of their animals even though they are protected by the Right to farm act.

The Governor and Legislature needs to help the Senior Citizens and Disable where they can receive the medical supplies they need. The Caregivers that take of family members need to receive health insurance and be compensate for taking of their family members to keep them from going into a Nursing Home which they will not receive the proper care. I resign from my employment to take care of my mom. I do not have an income or health insurance and it is hard for me to get help if I get sick or my health examination. Something needs to be done.

My twins will start Kindergarten in the fall of 2013, and I believe it is the parents right to choose, rather than the schools', whether the twins should be separated or kept in the same class. Our children's emotional, social and psychological stability should be top priority especially when entering this major time of transition, so as the child can focus on their educational experience.

In the past two years, Texas has fallen from 41st to 47th in spending per student. This abysmal choice of budget priorities will hurt our future economy and standard of living. Instead of decreasing and/or underfunding public schools, as in the past, we need a significant increase to begin the process of catching up with the rest of the USA.

We need to realize term limits if we hope to ever get anything done, the only loss of experience and expertise if there were no career politicians, much — if not most — of that is experience and expertise in the arts of evasion, effrontery, deceit and chicanery. None of that serves the interest of the people. City, state and federal government no longer is concerned with the needs of the people so much as the need to get reelected.

LB 577 will require Nebraska Medicaid to add the newly eligible adult population under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to the Nebraska Medicaid state plan amendment; and outlines the health coverage provided under the program. The bill provides for expanded eligibility to low-income adults who are age 19 to 65. The inclusion of this population will provide health coverage for uninsured childless adults from 0-133% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) For 2013 the FPL at 133% for an individual is $15,282 per year. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the ACA, allows for a 5% income disregard so the threshold will effectively be at 138% FPL, for 2013 an individual income limit would be $15,856. Additionally, some low income uninsured parents will also obtain coverage under this bill.

We can't wait for Washington to raise the minimum wage. Colorado now has all three branches of the state government in Democratic hands. So lets take action here in this state.

What's a realistic way that will actually cut down the number of weapons of mass murder? A ban hasn't passed, and current owners would be exempt. Taking away guns from current owners is a non-starter! BUT Universal registration, annual excise tax, and buy-back are workable, realistic, and cost-effective. The tax can pay to make the policy work. It will take time, but it can be implemented.

In his budget address Governor Christie boasted about restoring some of the $3.6 billion he's cut from our schools. In fact, he said 370 school districts are getting relief this year. But here's the catch: Seventy of those school districts received less than $1,000. Forty of them received just $1. Of all the cuts Christie has made to vital services and investments over the years, his cuts to schools have probably had the widest impact. Kids felt it when their class sizes increased and when they lost music and language classes or sports teams. Parents felt it through increased fees for extracurriculars or busing. And we’ve all felt it through higher property taxes that state aid is intended to relieve. Christie wants to take credit for an aid increase because it's an election year and he knows that people are still hurting from his past cuts. Let’s let him know that we still have his number – and that if he wants to prove he’s a friend to our public schools, he’ll have to do better than chump change.
