  • MN Plastic Bag Ban
Plastic bags are a major source of pollution all around the world. They are harmful to land and aquatic wildlife and their habitats. Banning plastic bags would be a small and simple step toward reducing our crude oil consumption. Many seemingly small efforts will lead to a better future for all living creatures on earth.

  • Erie Community College...Protect Your OWN Students
Our sister, Toree Walker, continues to be treated as an outcast because Erie Community College would rather play collegiate politics at her expense. It's okay for our children to play ball for Erie but Erie won't play fair ball with them. Toree has been suspended by the school, disgraced by the news media, and it's time to tell Erie Community College to stop with the politics and invest in protecting their own students.

  • Save Seattle's Sick Leave Law!
It should be simple: if you’re sick, you can stay home from work so you don’t get your co-workers and customers sick too. Yet thousands of people are forced to come to work sick in restaurants, child care centers, and other workplaces because they lack paid sick leave. It makes our workplaces and communities less healthy for all of us. Some cities, including Seattle, give workers the right to earn leave for sick days, preventative care, or to care for a sick child or family member. These laws also help businesses maintain healthier, happier, more productive employees. Unfortunately, Republicans in our state Legislature are trying to undermine Seattle's sick leave law. (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=5726) They're following in the footsteps of Wisconsin’s far-right Governor, Scott Walker, who passed similar ALEC legislation to override Milwaukee’s sick leave law in 2011. Tell our legislators to save Seattle's sick leave law!

  • Better Hospital Food
My son is in a mental hospital. The meals are often prepared from prepackaged, and processed foods. These foods have added salt, sugar, and preservatives. To prevent these patients from developing heart disease, diabetes, and chronic hypertension, they should be provided a menu with a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • Sen. McCaskill: Support immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
Missouri Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill will be a key vote on legislation to fix our broken immigration system this year. We need her to support a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants currently living in the United State without papers. Most of these immigrants have lived in this country for more than a decade and have come to America to seek a better life for their families. They are Americans-in-waiting who are ready to fulfill the requirements of our citizenship process - to study English, pay taxes, maintain a good record and be of good moral character. Instead of focusing only on the border, we need a new approach that is better for families and makes more economic sense.
