• Catholic University Parking Permit
Catholic University has been raising the price of tuition every single year and charges thousands for room and board. This forces people to move off campus and bring their vehicles from home. A parking ticket can vary, but it is about $60. A parking permit for a semester is hundreds of dollars on top of the tens of thousands students and their family’s pay to attend the university. It is important that they lower prices and understand that they are outrageously priced.

  • Super Tuesday Disaster: Demand better elections
On Super Tuesday, Hervis Rogers waited almost 7 hours to cast his ballot -- because his Texas polling place wasn’t equipped with enough machines. He finally got to vote at 1:30 a.m., then had to head straight to his morning shift at work. And Hervis wasn’t alone. Across the country, Super Tuesday voters were subjected to outrageously long lines, failing equipment, polling place closures, and other barriers to the ballot box. If our voting systems were this overwhelmed by a primary election, when only a quarter of states were voting -- imagine how large-scale that failure could be in November. That’s why we must act NOW. - Every polling place needs enough paper ballots and backup paper registration books to keep the lines moving when machines malfunction. - States must adopt robust early voting and vote-by-mail programs that give voters more flexibility. - We must restore the protections of the Voting Rights Act -- and stop self-interested politicians from enacting racist laws that disenfranchise voters of color. Our right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. And this year, when the stakes are so high, experts are expecting unprecedented turnout. Super Tuesday was a wake-up call -- and now, our elected officials must act. Add your name to tell our state and federal representatives: step up for our elections!

  • Ban the use of all Private/Third-Party Trackers on all Government Websites.
U.S. Citizens have a Constitutional right to privacy. That privacy is violated or chilled by the government's implementation of private, third-party trackers and cookies (such as Google CAPTCHA and Analytics) upon government websites. Essentially, the Federal government is explicitly allowing, and facilitating, private companies to build profiles on every American that visits the website - these are sensitive records (DHS, IRS, Healthcare.gov, etc.), the use of which we have a right to have held confidential by the Federal Government. The Federal government is more than capable of building-in its own trackers which do not violate privacy issues, as they do currently with Copyright.gov and the U.S. PTO.

  • Community Concerns Around MGRS District Hiring for Senior Administration: Principal Positions
There are reasons to be concerned that a pattern has been established under which the District fails to seek and, thus, generate a pool of qualified candidates for senior administrative positions. In this vein, the last search for a Superintendent included a posting of the position which cited the existence of a "strong internal candidate". This resulted in a near-total absence of qualified outside candidates despite the attraction of a new, state-of-the-art high school building. Additionally, no apparent effort was made to attract a *licensed* principal to fill the recently (and twice-) vacated position at Lanesborough Elementary School. The core values outlined for the District state: "We recognize the responsibility of the entire school community to ensure the success of all students.” The argument for utilizing a transparent and inclusive process to fill such key positions is strengthened by the documented extraordinary turnover in non-union staff experienced within the District since Ms. Grady became Assistant Superintendent in June of 2016. At least 20 positions have been vacated including: - Superintendent (District/Central Office) - Business Manager (District/Central Office) - Administrative Assistant to Superintendent/HR (District/Central Office) - Administrative Assistant/HR Specialist (District/Central Office) - Custodial Supervisor at Lanesborough Elementary - Office Assistant (District/Central Office) - Treasurer (District/Central Office) - Bookkeeper/Business Assistant (District/Central Office) - Compliance Monitoring Assistant/Pupil Services Coordinator ("Team Leader") (District) - Director of Pupil Services (District) - Interim Director of Pupil Services (District) - Maintenance/Facilities Director (District) - Cafeteria Supervisor Mount Greylock - Cafeteria Director Mount Greylock - Administrative Assistant to Director of Pupil Personnel Williamstown Elementary School - Principal Lanesborough Elementary School - Administrative Assistant Lanesborough Elementary School - Principal Lanesborough Elementary School - Principal Mt. • Saving TCBY
This is important because this ice cream shop has been in Sarasota for 36 years and is a staple of joy in many resident's childhood and current lives. That store has housed many memories for countless families in the town. Everyone who has found out about the closure of TCBY has been devastated. Also, Mr. Bruce Weir has always been so supportive of the community, and it is unfair that he cannot sell the store and retire. Taking away The Country’s Best Yogurt is taking away our joy. -Julia and Ella For more information about the closure of TCBY, visit the article in the link below. https://www.heraldtribune.com/business/20200302/tcby-closing-in-sarasota

  • Tell Congress: Pence must step down as head of the U.S. response to the coronavirus!
As fear of a global pandemic continues to escalate, Trump has announced that he assembled a team to lead the U.S. response — with Mike Pence as head of the task force. Gregg Gonsalves, assistant professor of epidemiology at Yale University, responded on Twitter: “It’s like putting an arsonist in charge of the fire department, a bank robber in charge of the U.S. Mint.” We couldn’t agree more. People’s lives are literally at stake and too many have already been sacrificed due to Pence’s disbelief in science and inability to lead on public health as governor of Indiana. The cost is simply too high. Trump and his cronies are concerned that this crisis will negatively impact their popularity — and we’ve got a critical moment to capitalize on their craven understanding of politics in order to make the U.S. (and the entire world, really) safer in the face of the potential coronavirus pandemic. It is beyond irresponsible to place someone who distrusts basic science and public health research at the head of the U.S. response to a virus that is quickly spreading across borders and negatively impacting everything from global trade to local school schedules. Tell Congress: Our public health deserves better than Mike Pence.

  • Tell the Senate: Coronavirus Vaccine Must Be Affordable for All
The coronavirus is threatening to become a major global pandemic, with the number of confirmed cases growing inside the United States. So who are Donald Trump and his administration’s top officials most concerned about right now? Giant corporations. When asked by Congress if a future vaccine will be guaranteed to be affordable for all Americans, Trump’s head of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar--a former drug company lobbyist--refused to commit. Instead, he suggested that private pharmaceutical companies’ ability to profit would come before the health needs of the people. This is outrageous and the Senate must act immediately to ensure that all of our families will be able to access and afford any future vaccine. .

  • Tell the NBA: Take Marijuana Off the Banned Substances List
As NBA superstar Kevin Durant recently said, "[M]arijuana is marijuana... I feel like it shouldn’t even be a huge topic around it anymore.” But it is if you're an NBA player. Players face a 5 game suspension for using marijuana -- even if the player lives in one of the 11 states (plus D.C.) who've legalized recreational usage or the 33 states (plus D.C.) where medicinal use is allowed. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver takes pride in being the most progressive sports league in the U.S., but suspending players for using marijuana--medically or recreationally--is out of sync with that forward-leaning image. NBA players generate $8 BILLION for the league's owners, and the players deserve the right to use marijuana without being punished for it. League commissioner Adam Silver can -- and should -- change this immediately. Sources: 1. • Fully fund the CDC
So far, this nation's response to the Covid-19 threat is woefully inadequate, due to underfunding of the Centers For Disease Control and lack of leadership from the Trump administration. Our lack of testing kits available for doctors and hospitals to diagnose the disease in a timely manner and the inadequate supply of hospital beds for the huge demand the disease is likely to generate, are just two examples of serious shortcoming that must be addressed!

  • Change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day
It is wrong to continue to celebrate Columbus. He and those that followed after him raped, enslaved, and attempted to exterminate the native Taínos. He also did not discover anything. It was already discovered by the native peoples.
