Far too many Kansans don't have health insurance. Already, seven Republican governors have agreed to accept the funds. Right now Governor Brownback and the Kansas Legislature are threatening to give up federal funds that would cover more hard-working Kansans. Currently, KanCare (Medicaid) eligibility in Kansas is one of the lowest in the country – roughly 32% of the federal poverty level (less than $6,000 a year for a family of 4). The state of Kansas can raise its KanCare eligibility threshold to 133% of the federal poverty level (a little less than $31,000 a year for a family of 4) and federal funds will cover 100% of the cost for those newly eligible Kansans who enroll. After the first three years, the proportion of federal dollars would be incrementally reduced to 90 percent. Kansas would never pay more than ten percent for this huge benefit to our state. It is estimated that if Kansas accepts federal funds and extends KanCare to more Kansans, more than 100,000 would enroll. Most of these Kansans are currently uninsured. Hospitals receive federal funding to compensate for the care that they provide to uninsured Kansans. A portion of that federal funding will be phased out over time. If Kansas does not accept federal funds to extend KanCare to more uninsured Kansans, hospitals will have to cover the shortfall themselves. Moreover, if the state does not accept these federal funds, many Kansans will have no other affordable health insurance option available to them. These Kansans cannot afford health coverage in the private market and under current eligibility guidelines in Kansas they aren’t currently eligible for KanCare. Without affordable health insurance options, many hard-working, low-income Kansans and their families are falling through the cracks. They do not receive the medical care they need, and they cannot access the preventive care necessary to catch illness before it worsens. This leads to more expensive treatment, amputation, and even early death. The health, well-being, and quality of life of these uninsured and underinsured Kansans matter. Their inability to access the health care they need affects all of us - our communities, workforce and families.

Steven Brill has laid out, in the March 6 issue of Time Magazine, a comprehensive and compelling case for further healthcare reform. No one can oppose these sensible reforms without responding to the case made here so authoritatively.

How much could we cut back on our spending if we no longer paid for all congress to keep their salaries and healthcare after they retire. If the middle class can pay health care and expected to save for retirement shouldnt congress and senators? How crazy is this?

Student Loan Debt should be forgiven if someone can prove they have had an illness that lead to temporary disability lasting at least two years.

This is a petition supporting Representative Stratton's bill to provide common sense reforms to the Traffic Code and the Motor Carrier Safety Act. As Provo Mayor John Curtis has pointed out, towing companies, although necessary to prevent illegal parking, have established lucrative businesses that charge excessive prices. We all know the security at Sterling Alvarado is a very annoying and problematic issue; so lets do something to change that! I've been a resident at Sterling since day 1 and have experienced a lot of security (rent a cop) harassment throughout my time here. I want to make a change as well as many of the residents I've spoken with here. I filed many complaints to the office but of course that did not effect anything. I want to get everyone's signature so we can all make a change/adjustment of how the security over here should deal with certain complaints. We all pay rent here and this is after all an "off campus" apartment and I feel like I'm living in the dorms. We can make this happen!

Universities such as university of Phoenix are preying on people giving them false hope about what they can do for them.

Too many people are irresponsibly talking on their cell phones while driving in NC. In turn, they are not using their turn signal and not driving with both hands on the wheel, which are causing a lot of auto accidents. Other states have adopted a hands-free law which allows the driver to still talk on the phone, while using an inexpensive, easily available headset or hands-free blue tooth device.

Since 2009 Progress Energy has collected over $800 million from ratepayers to finance nuclear plants that are unlikely to be built. This poses a serious economic threat to it's customers. Consumers of an essential service such as electricity demand elected officials to step up to the plate and stop this corporate pick pocketing.
