Thousands of individuals, families and small businesses have been leaving New York City and New York State and continue to do so because of an out of control property tax, especially in NYC. In spite of the governor's recent 2 percent property tax cap, its enactment is voluntary on the part of local municipalities and in New York City the cap is completely exempt. Already high rents have skyrocketed as a result of the city's relentless increases in property tax which seems out of control. Whether you rent an apartment, or own property, or run a business you are affected by the property tax and if you are a NYC/NY State resident your longevity as a resident is at risk.

Even though Walmart's Sylvia Mathews Burwell is a Washington veteran, President Obama should NOT nominate her as his next budget director. Burwell left government to run the Walmart Foundation, the retail giant's philanthropic wing that strives to soften the fact that Walmart receives more than $1.2 billion in tax breaks, outsources American jobs, and denies its American employees full-time jobs, benefits, and over-time pay. To subsidize the paltry pay the average part-time Walmart worker earns, Walmart teaches its employees to apply for government assistance in the form of Medicaid and food stamps which 80% of Walmart's part-time employees must do to survive. Burwell's association with corporate America makes her unfit for the position of budget director.

Any media that carries spots with information that isn't true must run a constant disclaimer with the percentage of truth.

Stop the Sequestration its hurting everyone. Make the full Congress Do Their Jobs.

As a student of Macon Early College, I know how much of a difference this school has made, not only to me, but to several other people who would not have had an opportunity like this. Our education should be top priority for the School Board, so why do they want to cut an important program like this? Please sign by March 15th! Pass it on!

Legalize it, and you will eliminate the deficit.

Congress must act on these suggestions to reduce medical costs before tinkering with Medicare.

Education had been cut far too much in this state. I am a newly certified educator who is considering a move out of New York upon completion of my Masters Degree in August. This makes me sick, but I simply must go where I can get a job in my desired field. As a father I also have great concerns about the future of New York schools. Now one of the best in the nation, but with more significant cuts looming will the same be said in the future? Please consider cutting your pay and doing your share before curing from an industry that develops the future of your state. Do not let more and more teachers go unemployed.

The amount of bureaucratic red tape in government makes it cumbersome and expensive. I have had a hard time getting information and assistance because of it. It costs time,energy and alot of money to maintain it.

Hurricane Sandy exacerbated NYC’s affordable housing shortage. Before the storm, 48,000 people, including 20,000 children, were already sleeping in City shelters and thousands more were made homeless by the storm. Nearly 4 months after the disaster, more than 2,000 displaced families are still living in temporary hotels, SROs, and shelters paid for by FEMA and the City of New York. Thousands more remain in their affected communities, living in dangerous conditions or double-up with family and friends. The majority of these families were struggling to survive on low-incomes even before the storm. New York City established a “housing portal” to help Sandy victims find permanent housing, but three-quarters of applicants did not qualify, because their incomes were too low. After Hurricane Katrina, the federal government established the Disaster Housing Assistance Program, which provided affordable housing vouchers for low-income people made homeless by the storm. They were originally issued as temporary rental vouchers, and later converted to permanent Section 8 rental housing choice vouchers. New York City and other communities that were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy need similar support -- vouchers to get people out of shelters immediately and into permanent housing. These "DHAP" vouchers were authorized by the federal recovery bill (H.R. 152), but HUD and FEMA have yet to issue them. As Secretary of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, we call on Shaun Donovan to immediately issue affordable housing vouchers for Hurricane Sandy victims.
