• Student debt can ruin a generation and the country.
As a past college administrator, I am so concerned about the level of student debt in this country. Students have been led to borrow huge amounts of money often at for profit colleges without the placement statistics to give students a fighting chance at landing a job which will allow them to ever pay back their loan. They may never have enough money to own a home, buy a car or put anything away for their own retirement. Additionally, it becomes an albatross around their necks that affects their energy and capabilities to the detriment of the country as a whole. Without some way to defeat these loans through some form of civil service, loan forgiveness, employer incentives as part of a benefits package or other creative process an entire generation of citizens could be lost to poverty. Also, the vast size of the debt has the potential to become the next bubble to burst as graduates, unable to meet their pay back requirements default, the country could once again be facing an economy melt down.

  • Restore viable out-of network healthcare
Restoration of reasonable and appropriate third-party payments for out-of-network services is essential to the economic, psychological and physical well-being of many NYS consumers, and to the adequate provision of important healthcare services by numerous providers, such as physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurse-practitioners and physical therapists.

  • Leverage for tenants
Edward Rose and Sons is the landlord for the apartment I live in. Each Month I scrape together enough to have a place to stay but often it is not on the day it is due. If you pay by the 5th of the month there is a $25 late fee that rises to $75 if rent is not received by the 9th. By the 12th of the month, the landlord begins eviction papers and the tenant now incurs court costs of $120. Thus, if I am relying on my unemployment to pay my rent by the time I can get it together ( $294/ bi-weekly) (rent=$545) there is an additional $220 in fees which get tagged on to my bill. There should be AT LEAST one month before eviction papers are filed with the court, as most renters have a security deposit and tenants should not be squeezed for fees that impede the ability to get ahead.

  • Repeal NH “Stand Your Ground” Law (HB135)
In 2011, Tea Party extremists in the New Hampshire legislature pushed through a so-called “Stand Your Ground” law that gives broad protection for the use of deadly force in public areas. The new law justifies the use of lethal force in self-defense anywhere an individual has a “legal right to be” - that means YOUR town and YOUR neighborhood - without a duty to retreat from harm, even when it is completely safe to do so. New Hampshire’s so-called “Stand Your Ground” law does not make our families and communities safer. The latest studies find that similar laws in other states do not deter crime and increase the number of murders and wrongful deaths resulting from lethal force encounters. These laws are also used as a legal loophole for violent criminals to plead self-defense. A law giving private citizens the right to “shoot first and ask questions later” is a tragedy waiting to happen, and it's wrong for New Hampshire. Please sign my petition to support HB135, legislation that will repeal New Hampshire’s unsafe “Stand Your Ground” law.

  • CONGRESS, MUST BE ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE
It appears to me that Congress have voted themselves into PlutocratsThey have forgotten what it is like to be a Middle Class American. Maybe if their retirement was what many of their constitutes are dependent on they would be less willing to cut and gut Medicare and Social Security. OR Maybe they should be willing to give each U.S. citizen their retirement?

  • Restore affordable out-of network healthcare
Employers and health-insurance companies are increasingly withholding coverage for out-of-network healthcare services. Current options are increasingly limited to HMO plans and PPOs with dauntingly high out-of-network deductibles. Please help restore the freedom of practitioners to provide, and consumers to receive, a full range of treatment options in a manner which is economically feasible for both. Deprivation of such options can often seriously undermine psychological well-being, physical health, and in some cases, survival itself.

  • Stop the Lobbying
Lobbying is the seat of corruption in our government. It gets between the people and their elected officials and it leads to our leaders ignoring their constituents and going with the highest bidding lobbyist. This is NOT part of a democratic process.

  • Common Sense Government
Our government system is dated & destroying our country & citizens. The reality is no government which has 2 or more opposing parties will ever be in harmony for the sole purpose of doing what is right for the people and country as 1. Common sense tells one that when there are 2 parties competing for power, the people & country suffer the consequences of their struggle to have the upper hand over the other.

  • Stop Republican Power Grab of Important State Commissions
Stop the bill that would allow the Republican governor and legislature to remove current members and make their own appointments to the N.C. Utilities Commission, Coastal Resources Commission, Coastal Resources Advisory Board, Environmental Management Commission, and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority. The proposed bill also eliminates 12 special superior court judges, changes the makeup of the state Board of Elections, and modifies the composition of the state Lottery Commission. Years of experience would be lost while the Republican governor and legislature appointed cronies to these important boards.
