• Comprehensive Gun Safety
The Sandy Hook tragedy was horrible. I want it to be harder to get weapons.

  • Expanded Medicaid coverage
Iowa must particiate in the expanded Medicaid program to provide health care to poor Iowans unable to afford health insurance. We currently serve these people in hospital emergency rooms. This system is very costly, inefficient, and inhumane.

  • America, LOCK UP YOUR GUNS!
We have all been affected by the recent rash (and unfortunate long line) of school shootings. Though there are many factors at play and many political horses in the race, there must be some common ground. There must be some immediate action that can be taken, even in the face of the completely irrational and socially tone-deaf stance of the NRA (and the GOP by-proxy) on all things related to reasonable gun control. This may be one of the few small things that can be accomplished and that even the NRA may be able to help with. In the wake of the horrifying events at Sandy-Hook Elementary there has been much discussion and government resources directed at what can be done to prevent or at least mitigate such terrible things from happening in the future. It seems that even the most minor suggestions in policy change or ideas that seem completely reasonable and logical to stem the casualty rates from such acts are met with opposition by some interest group or another. But here is a cheap idea that cannot possibly be met with any reasonable opposition: President Obama, and any other public official of substantial national profile on either side of the political spectrum should start a media campaign calling on all Americans who own guns to immediately secure those guns in a safe and responsible manner. Their children should have no access to the guns nor should any other person who isn't supposed to. Many of the mass shootings that have happened have only been possible because the guns inside the shooter's home were not properly secured and the shooter had unfettered access to them. It can be a simplified message. "America, lock up your guns". It may also be helpful to look into legislative action that may help make this happen such as tax credits for gun safes or credits for gun locks. In my opinion the NRA could help greatly via their large membership and influence in this sector of private life. It may help them rebuild a tarnished image and seem somewhat reasonable again. In short, this should be a presidential address to the nation and a television and internet based-commercial campaign. "America, lock up your guns"

  • Governor Snyder: Return Michigan to the people
Policies in Michigan have been enacted that directly conflict with the will of citizens. Women's rights have been swept aside, collective bargaining swept aside, local governments swept aside. The rights of citizens and the voices of citizens must be held in high regard again. Equal rights need to be exrended to all citizen regardless of their economic, social or gender specifics. Michigan is our state and it belongs to all of ALL of us.

  • HELP PRESERVE DEMOCRAY!
Many states that are controlled by the Republican party are trying to weaken Democracy by limiting those who can vote and by radically changing the way Electoral Votes are distributed.

  • No rigging the Electoral College
Governor Kasich has proposed and then withdrawn legislation to rig the Electoral College to favor less populated districts. This is simply a blatant attempt to rig elections. The end game is to make the White House go into Republican hands even if they lose the popular vote. In the GOP scenario President Obama would have lost the 2012 election even though he won the popular vote in Ohio and nationally by a large margin. This is criminal and we cannot allow our voting priviledges to be discounted. We must stop this before it is introduced again, as we know it will be, in the hopes of catching us off guard. We are focused on stopping all GOP over reach to minimize our VOTING priviledges!

  • Gun Safeties Safety
Biometric Safeties can prevent anyone except the legal owner from using the weapon which would eliminate the majority of shootings in the US per the FBI statistics. According to FBI statistics, most shootings in America, whether accidental, suicide, or criminal, occur with legally owned weapons used by someone other than the legal owner. This includes both handguns and assault weapons. Also, most illegal weapons are first purchased legally and then resold illegally, called straw purchases.

  • Balance the Budget
The US Senate has not passed a budget in over 3 years. That has locked in trillion dollar annual deficits. It's clearly unsustainable, and our children will have to pay this money back with interest. We used to want our children to have a better life. Now we're leaving them a legacy of massive crushing debt. We're not telling the Senate what budget to pass. But we are requesting that the Senate pass a balanced budget each year.

  • Finalize I-5 bridge and light rail plans NOW
My petition seeks to get leaders in Washington State to finalize the approval and funding options for construction and financing of the I-5 replacement bridge over the Columbia River between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The finalization of construction plans has been stalled by local, backward thinking politics. This bridge and extension of light rail to Vancouver is essential for alleviating a major transportation bottleneck on the West Coast between Vancouver, BC and California. It is THE major thoroughfare for goods and movement of people. The need to move local traffic via light rail has been obvious for over a decade and is stalled by small town thinking. Time to move this on and get the state of Washington to enact legislation that approves this bridge and the expansion of public transportation options.
