• Azusa Downtown Redevelopment Plan
Dear Azusa City Council: We cordially sign this petition to ask the Azusa City Council to create an Azusa Downtown plan with the following goals and then look for private investors to finance it in phases. 1. We want the Azusa Downtown to be a fun place to go to where people from all over the valley come to have fun that they cannot easily find in the cities around us. When people think of the city of Azusa, we want their first thoughts to be that it is a beautiful city and a fun place to go. 2. We don’t want our downtown to look like everyone else’s downtown. 3. We want the architecture to be beautiful, not ordinary. When you look at many of the old cities in Europe, they were beautiful when they were first built, they are beautiful today, and they will be beautiful in the future. If a plan is not beautiful, don’t build it. We don’t want an ugly suburbia look. We want a creative, vibrant and beautiful city. 4. We would like to see inexpensive live entertainment with many small venues that can offer small live theater, singing, comedians, etc. Giving people many live entertainment options will make the downtown a go to place to have fun. One thought to consider would be to put the entertainment in basements or on upper floors to help keep the costs down. Restaurants could be built on the main level, and artist loft apartments and/or professional offices could be built above everything else. The restaurants would work together with these venues to market together. We think that the Azusa Downtown will be a great place for this, especially when the Gold Line Extension has been completed. It is something that other cities in the area don’t really specialize in and we feel that we can provide that niche. 5. We would like to have at least one restaurant that offers dancing. And at least one restaurant that offers outdoor seating. Thank you for considering our request.

  • Gun Control, not guns-for-all.
I have ten grandchildren that I want to grow up without fear of gun-toting maniacs storming their schools. As someone who has personally been threatened by someone I knew, I am against gun violence and want tougher laws on gun control, including background checks and limiting assault rifles. The second amendment should not supercede all the others. Teachers have enough responsiblity; they don't need to add stress with the addition of MORE guns in schools.

  • African Americans: Incarcerated at higher rates due to racism.
While African Americans only make up12% of the U.S. population, they are imprisoned more than any race in America! Why? Because of racist views and racial profiling of law enforcement which must end now!

  • Let the People decide!
Last election the people of Richmond elected Gary Bell to lead them on our city council. Now, special interests are trying to force the appointment of their losing candidate to replace Mr. Bell who is unable to take his seat. Local media, civic leaders, and many residents all support a special election to ensure that democracy prevails.

  • Save My Son (all children from abuse)
Petition Update 1) Matthew was not sent to the Troubled Teen Residential Facility (TTRF) on legal record, but to another TTRF program in Bend, OR. 2) Matthew was not sent away for eight weeks on legal record, but for twelve. 3) Information regarding Matthew’s true location was withheld for over 8 weeks. The police report shows that Matthew’s location was withheld from the police too. 4) TTRF, OR, contacted me a few days later, a phone conversation with Matthew was established, and a handwritten letter from Matthew was received. My visitation was denied and then approved, but information regarding the location of the “field”, 1.5 hour from base camp, was withheld. 5) FBI SF agreed with my evidence and contacted TTRF. My travel partner was approved. 6) Next, TTRF denied my visitation. 7) FBI OR was contacted. FBI Oregon advised me to contact the police to check on Matthew in Bend Oregon which I did. I expressed concern of Matthew’s treatment, medications, psychological testing, isolation from family, extreme conditions, conflicting information in his letter, handwriting exercises when diagnosed with dysgraphia, all suggest Stockholm Syndrome tactics further evidenced by the withholding of basic information including the FTC, Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Article 0185 (Google it) and the House of Representatives Bill H.R. 3126: The Stop Child Abuse in Residential Program for Teens Act (Google it). I was concerned Matthew would be relocated out of the country. 8) Matthew was transferred to a boarding school in Central America where he resides. 9) The Marin County Family Court has since put a restraining order against me from contacting Matthew’s boarding school in Central America, and from contacting any government authorities even if child abuse is suspected. 10) Upon being contacted by the boarding school, an exchange of information was underway to facilitate communication, a new email and Skype account and visitation was proposed. 11) Subsequently, legal counsel threatened me with sanctions for being in violation of the restraining order to only receive information thus preventing me from obtaining information that would facilitate the allowed communication and visitation. 12) Is that entrapment? If you have had a similar experience with the Marin County Family Court endorsement of child abuse neglect or worse, please let me know. Mia Lilien, P.O. Box 884, Mill Valley, CA 94942.
