High School should be reformed so that it helps students find what they are truly interested in. Currently, schools focus too much on preparing their students to take standardized tests. High school becomes an unrelenting routine of studying subjects in which you have no interest and dealing with peers with whom you have little in common, all the while experiencing the stresses of puberty. To relieve these tensions, I propose that students be allowed to set the pace at which they complete the high school curriculum, perhaps extending it over a fifth year. Students should be able to explore a range of subjects, pursue extracurricular activities, take some free time, and discover their true interests and passions. Also, they should be able to go to school just to attend classes without being stuck there for the entire school day.

I have had enough death and dying by way of bullets in this country that constitutionally boasts of freedom. I stand with the second ammendment right to bear arms, but lets get real: we don't need automatic assault weaponry to shoot game. I myself have never owned a gun, but I also appreciate those who do shoot to feed families, these are not the folks I speak of. Keep handguns legal,but, please! Stop the AR weapons and bullets. Love, a Democrat and Republican voter.

As a school employee, I realize the tragedy in Newtown could happen at any of our schools.

In light of the tragic murders of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, we urge you to pass sensible gun control legislation and ensure that mental health care is adequately funded in the ongoing "fiscal cliff" negotiations.

To help family's with mentally challenged teens and young adults. Also to stop Hollywood from putting out the stupid violent movies and the companies that put out the horrific games that our young adults and teens play.

Extreme weather events have affected all regions of the country, and probably the planet: 2011 drought in Texas, 2012 drought in major grain-growing regions, "Superstorm Sandy," melting permafrost generating methane, temperature anomalies wreaking havoc on fruit production, bark beetles destroying coniferous forests in Texas, Canada, Alaska, and elsewhere.

As President Obama so rightly observed in his talk at the Memorial Service in Newtown, CT on 12/16/12, "we have to do better" in protecting our children and others from mindless violence. We who sign here are ready and willing to do our part. Call on us.

In order to rebuild our country's infrastructure, re-evaluate our taxpayer spending priorities, and reduce the deficit, let's start with the billions of taxpayer dollars now being spent on waging wars abroad.

Gun control to cut down on senseless violence. Everybody has been affected by this tragedy. How can we protect our children when evil people can get guns so easily. I am a retired teacher and I know how little ones get scared with a clap of thunder. Or loud noise what must these little have endured with this ordeal.
