IF A LAW PASSED THAT STOPS SMOKING AND WEAR SEAT BELTS IF TIME TO PASS THE LAW RE GUN CONTROL.. WHERE IS THE SAFETY FOR MY GRAND KIDS?

We need to reframe the debate about gun control. Every mother and father in America needs to stand up and say gun control laws need to protect our children, not " interest groups".

As a city resident the delay in response time vs. the $2000 savings Jon Arnold, Police Sgt. was quoted saying, is not worth the lives or homes that stand a loss because of the delay in dispatching. The citizens of Sandy, Utah are worth more than this savings.

NO MORE CHILDREN WILL BE SACRIFICED ON THE ALTAR OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT! I don't know how, but this grandfather has had enough. I'm going to start a campaign, movement, whatever it takes, and we're going to go after the guns. Americans don't need handguns and we don't need assault weapons, and clearly the system we have today doesn't work. Twenty kindergarten children were murdered today; an entire classroom full of six and seven year olds. The shooter reportedly used two 9mm handguns, one made by Glock and the other by Sig Sauer, and an AR-15-type rifle also was found at the scene. Spare me the whining about your Second Amendment rights, I don’t want to hear it, and I don’t think the twenty sets of parents, or the forty sets of grandparents care one whit about your right to own an AK47, AR15 or semi-automatic pistol; while you’re screaming about your precious gun rights, stop and think about the erased rights of those 20 children to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Their blood and their futures is too high a price for your right to go “target shooting”, to “collect” weapons, or to prepare for whatever post apocalyptic future you’ve dreamed up in your foil encrusted head. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our children, grandchildren, students, teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels. As a teacher for 21 years I am brokenhearted for the kids and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School. We are loosing too many lives due to LACK of SECURITY. Its time to take ACTION to protect our children and their teachers.

The government of the U. S. and all its states have a duty set forth in our country's Constitution, beginning with the Preamble--the sacred philosophical foundation of all that follows in the remainder of the document: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Finally, let's wake up and hold the president, governor and all law makers responsible. The right to be safe from murder trumps the right of a well regulated militia to bear arms. It's the right of LIFE.

Nearly every meal we eat outside the home involves use of disposable food/drink containers, utensils, straws. A minority of these paper/ plastic/ styrofoam items are recycled; a massive burden of waste is generated from each meal. Even the process of recycling involves significant energy use and is not optimally efficient.

Gun technology has not changed in 100 years. The gun trigger and firing mechanisms in personal weapons are essentially the same as invented in the 1900's. Today we need safer weapons that utilize modern computer technology. The government needs to sponsor a technology competition to develop them. The answer is to utilize GPS navigation technology so that general issue weapons will only work in open spaces using electronic trigger systems and electronic rounds. If the gun cannot sense GPS information, the electronic trigger will not operate and the electronic rounds will not fire. This will allow sale of weapons and electronic rounds to sports people and general users without restriction. Persons wanting to purchase weapons that work indoors will need to pass rigorous background checks. Similarly persons wanting to purchase old percussion ammunitions will need special permits and those munitions will not be available for general retail sale. This will allow people in public places indoors to be protected automatically while allowing legitmate gun sports to continue in line with peoples constitutional rights.

Enough is enough. We may not be able to prevent every act of gun violence in this country, but we have to take action to set this country back on a sane path of responsible gun laws. Americans demand that our leaders stand up to the NRA and gun lobby. Yes we have the 2nd Amendment. But there is no excuse for allowing anyone to buy a military-style weapon at a gunshow without a background check, or supporting laws such as the recent one in Michigan that would allow anyone to carry a concealed weapon into a school. It's utter insanity and its got to stop.

Have the Ways and Means Committee review both of these bills for a vote in Congress.

Given the gun violence in the past week-first in Oregon and yesterday in Connecticut, it is time to ban all assault weapons. How many more people must die before we take action to ban all automatic and semi-automatic weapons?
