• End "daylight savings time"
This is a petition for the elimination of "Daylight Savings Time", when we change our clocks, either forward and backward, 2 times a year, with no understandable reason for this to occur. It is a disruptive, and in many cases, a confusing change to humans, pets and others affected by this practice.

  • Make All Vets and Shelters Scan for Chips!!
Thousands of pet cats and dogs have been euthanized in shelters every year because they could not locate the owner. Right now it is encouraged that shelters and vets scan pets that come in, but often it is only the first vet visit IF the person bringing it in admits it was found as a stray, and is still technically 'optional'. It takes seconds to scan for a microchip and would make a world of difference for pets and their families. It's not asking for a lot.

  • Mayor Bloomberg: Stop the Sandy Healthcare Crisis and BUILD BACK BETTER
After Sandy, New York City’s healthcare crisis is still unfolding. Healthcare professionals warn that the aftermath of the crisis leaves New Yorkers vulnerable to the spread of infectious diseases, mold and dust, and clean-up hazards. Thousands of New Yorkers – in Staten Island, the Rockaways, and Coney Island – are still trapped in their homes with urgent and unattended medical needs. Many are still without heat, electricity, hot water, or adequate food. The storm has weakened a healthcare system that was already failing many of our city’s residents -- primary care facilities are not disaster-proof, emergency response is lacking, and the current infrastructure does not ensure care to all New Yorkers. Mayor Bloomberg needs to take immediate action to fill the gap in care and take this as an opportunity to rebuild a better city healthcare system that provides quality care to all New Yorkers. 1. FILL THE GAP IN CARE Take immediate measures to fill the gap in care left by hospital closures and the hospital bed shortage resulting from Sandy. 2. RE-OPEN BELLEVUE, CONEY ISLAND, THE VA, AND NYU LANGONE The Mayor must commit to a clear, safe, and expedited timeline for the full re-opening of Coney Island Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, the Manhattan VA, and NYU Langone Medical Center – and get those hospitals the resources they need to make it happen. And the Mayor must take immediate steps to fully restore the infrastructure at hospitals that were damaged by the storm, like Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island. 3. TAKE THE LEAD IN MEDICAL RELIEF - REQUEST HELP FROM FEMA The Mayor must take the lead in coordinating all medical relief efforts in the city, including regular monitoring of developing health concerns, adequate allocation and timely delivery of medical supplies, and regular communication and coordination with community-based relief efforts. The Mayor must also issue a formal request for much-needed assistance from FEMA. 4. BUILD BACK BETTER Sandy and its aftermath exposed the weakness in our city’s healthcare system. Many already lacked access to care before the storm hit. Now is the time for our city to re-invest in our healthcare infrastructure, including ensuring disaster and surge preparedness, rapid emergency response, and a stronger safety net. It’s time to rebuild a city healthcare system that serves all New Yorkers. Mayor Bloomberg, don’t let a healthcare crisis devastate our city. The time to act is NOW. Let's BUILD BACK BETTER.

  • Equal Access at TSA
At large airports a special screening line is reserved for high-tier mileage program members and first class passengers. In some cases military personnel in uniform also have access but make up a very small share of the users. These lines, like all screening, are staffed by government employees. To respond to widespread complaints about TSA screening, a "Pre Check" program has been started which will entitle members to a somewhat less onerous screening process. However, signing up for this is through the airlines, who are restricting applications to their high tier mileage program members. Both of these are exploitable weaknesses in the screening process, as well as an exploitation of the security issue by airlines to promote their own marketing agendas. Airport screening is a police function, not a customer service function, and every passenger should receive equally thorough screening and equal respect. The special lines should be restricted to Pre Check members, and participation in Pre Check should not depend on membership or mileage status in any airline program.

  • Gov. Quinn: We Need Common Sense Gun Legislation NOW!
The recent gun violence that killed 6-year old Aliyah Shell in Little Village and 7-year old Heaven Sutton on the Westside as well as the massacres in Aurora, CO and Oak Creek, WI demonstrate that we need to pass HB 5831 in Illinois. We believe that requiring handguns to be titled like cars and banning military style assault weapons from our communities are two reasonable solutions to save lives. We urge lawmakers to enact stronger common sense gun laws to protect our communities from this gun violence epidemic. HB 5831 would: • require all gun owners to register their handguns with the Illinois State Police, and renew that registration every 5 years. The records would be considered private, and would not be released publicly. • require all gun owners to present a Certificate of Registration issued by the Illinois State Police in order to transfer or possess handguns, and create a Class 2 Felony for falsifying the information. • require gun owners to report the theft or loss of a firearm to law enforcement within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, and creates a Class A Misdemeanor for the offense. • generate resources to help shore up thousands of records on dangerously mentally ill and other prohibited persons that are estimated missing from the flawed ISP FOID Card System and the FBI NICS.

  • Repeal HB 87
Georgia's HB 87, the anti-immigrant law passed in Georgia in 2011, seeks to falsely blame immigrants for problems they did not cause, damages our economy by preventing Georgia's agricultural and other industries from hiring the workers our economy needs, and promotes an environment of racial profiling in which Latinos, Asians, and other people of color are targeted and harassed because of their appearance.

  • We Need to Boycott Donald Trump
Donald Trump is a racist. It is time that we stood up to his bigotry and hostility toward President Obama. It is time that we stand up to this meglomaniac and let him know that fair minded and intelligent citizens have had enough of his stupid rants and silly tirades against the President.

  • Increase the size of the House of Representatives
Increasing the size of the house would allow the American people to have a stronger voice in the government. Originally when the house first started in 1789 it had 65 members, one for every 60,000 inhabitants today the average member represents about 700,000 Americans. The disparity in representation for the American people is far too great.

  • Vow to support a candidate to run against John Boehner in the 8th District of Ohio

  • Stop Governor Kasich’s anti-women’s health appointment to the state medical board!
We did it! Thanks to thousands of you who signed our OH Lawmakers, Stop Your Attacks on Women petition, Ohio’s attempt to defund Planned Parenthood and its restrictive “heartbeat” bill have been defeated! Tuesday, Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus said that he would not move either the "heartbeat" abortion ban bill or the bill to defund Planned Parenthood in Ohio. Both bills are unlikely to move forward. Senator Niehaus even defended Planned Parenthood’s role as provider of critical women’s health care: “From my perspective, you have to look at the entirety of the work that is done by Planned Parenthood, and I believe that they offer much-needed services that are not offered other places.” Unfortunately, there’s more work to do. Governor John Kasich has recently appointed the President of Ohio Right to Life, Michael Gonidakis, to the State Medical Board. Kasich has shown once again that he believes the government should get between physicians and their patients. Positioning ideology on the same level as public health and safety must be avoided. The appointment of Mike Gonidakis sends a message that the function of the Medical Board is not to license and regulate the medical profession, but to foster one particular ideological perspective within the Board's activities, opinions, and rulings.
