  • Consumer Debt Interest Relief
Many middle class American families struggle to get out of “short term” debt, like credit cards. And it’s small wonder, with creditors jacking interest rates to 30% for late payment. Oh, sure, they’ll offer a very low introductory rate as low as 0%, but late payments result in that interest rate being increased to the maximum rate allowed by law, and that rate is never reduced. Coupled with low minimum payments, it is a recipe for “short term” debt to become “life long” debt. And it contributes to economic stagnation, as debtors continue to pay off debt rather than making new purchases. I personally have at least one credit card with a 30% interest rate. It has a $0 balance now, as I had transferred the balance to another card with a 0% introductory rate, which I hope to have paid off within a few months. Regulation of short term debt, like credit cards, should have been addressed as part of the government bailout of the financial industry.

  • Keep cars for jobs
One of the austerity measures proposed as a remedy to the fiscal cliff suggests that if families wish to qualify for any SNAP or TANF funds they must sell their cars and rely on public transportation. This is an absurdist reaction. For one thing there are countless families that live in rural or suburban areas where there simply is NO mass transit. For another thing, a car can be one of the first items a prospective employer asks about, "Do you have reliable transportation?" While a car valued at over $30,000 might be unfeasible, allowing families who are striving to regain their independence one or two older vehicles doesn't seem contradictory to the idea of being able to get to interviews, job training, and once employed to drop children off at care and get to that job. In addition, seniors and the disabled who are able to drive and on assistance, should be allowed the ability to get to their doctors, grocers and again often live where mass transit is not feasible.

  • Term limits for senators and congressman
I don't believe that senators and congressman should be in power for as many times as re-elected. The president can only be re-elected once. Why should these people be in government for so long? Being in there for so long creates a seat of power and impunity

  • Reform Bankruptcy Code to Help Consumers
As a former Consumer Law attorney, I have seen the travesty that the 2005 Bankruptcy Code amendments have caused to consumers. Businesses screw up and they get bailed out. Consumers make bad decisions, or worse, get harmed by businesses, and the laws penalize them. It is time to have a serious debate and restore bankruptcy protections.

  • Caribbean's/West Indian's Community
The Caribbean’s/West Indian’s Americans want to be identifying as who we are. We migrate from our country to the USA to make a better life for ourselves and our children. Our children as well as ourselves service this country in many composites and the country should know that the Caribbean’s or West Indian’s Americans are proud to be American and are willing to defend this country and do play an important role in this country.
